Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

76: Gu Xiheng’s fiancéeGu Xiheng and the others were startled when they heard gunshots, but they felt relieved when they saw Yan Li, who was out searching for energy stones, hadn’t been hit and had quickly found a place to hide.

Sheng Jiyuan and his group were hiding in the passage and didn’t know what was happening behind the stone pillar.

However, Gu Xiheng keenly felt that this was a great opportunity to kill the opposition!

He immediately led the others toward the back of the stone pillar. They rounded it at top speed and opened fire on sight. The remaining members of Sheng Jiyuan’s side were suddenly attacked and instantly fell into disarray; in moments, almost all of them were dealt with by Gu Xiheng’s group.

Hank, the bodyguard specifically protecting Sheng Jiyuan, saw things were going south and took the chance to run toward the cave entrance. By the time Gu Xiheng and the others finished off the rest, he had already reached the entrance and only needed to duck out to escape.

Gu Xiheng and the others were too late to give chase or fire. Seeing the exit within arm’s reach, a surge of joy at his impending escape welled up in Hank’s heart.

Suddenly, with a ’bang’, a gunshot rang out. Hank, a smile still beginning to curl on his lips, collapsed at the cave entrance in disbelief.

Old Wang and Old Zhang ran over to restrain Old Five, the last one remaining. Gu Xiheng, staying where he was, looked up and happened to see Ai Yue putting away her gun.

”How is it you?” Gu Xiheng said with a face full of disbelief.

Ai Yue shrugged and said innocently, ”Why can’t it be me?”

”Are you following me?”

Ai Yue rolled her eyes hard. ”Don’t flatter yourself. Who’s following you? Why would I follow you to this dump to watch people fight? I just happened to be passing by, okay?”

”And you say you’re not following me? Then how did you end up deep underground?” Gu Xiheng looked like he didn’t believe a word she said.

”If I said I had an urgent need to find a small mound to take care of business and accidentally stepped into a hole and fell down, would you believe me?”

Gu Xiheng squinted at Ai Yue. ”Do you think I’d believe that?”

Ai Yue lost her patience for explaining and didn’t want to talk nonsense anymore. ”Believe it or not. My conscience is clear anyway; I stumbled upon this place while looking for an exit.”

Gu Xiheng frowned slightly and remained silent for a moment.

Gu Xitian also realized who the person before them was. The marauder they were riding had been provided by her. However, that vehicle was originally her brother’s; it had only been sold due to a series of accidents. Now that Ai Yue had returned the vehicle, it was only right and proper—after all, her whole family was being looked after by the Gu Clan.

Gu Xitian looked at Ai Yue’s face, which hadn’t suffered a bit of hardship and was still so fair and tender. Her large eyes seemed to speak when she blinked, and Gu Xitian grew wary.

She felt this woman had taken a liking to her brother and had shamelessly found a way to chase after him.

Thinking of this, she felt immense disdain. Her brother would always belong to Sister Siyu; no wild woman from outside should even think about him.

Gu Xitian took a step forward, tilted her head back to look at Ai Yue, and said rudely, ”Regardless of whether you followed us or not, we’ll find out once we’re back at the Safety Tower. We are on a secret mission that no one is allowed to spy on. Don’t forget, your parents are still in the Safety Tower. You’d better not have any other motives!”

The color drained from Ai Yue’s face, and her gaze turned sharp. ”Are you threatening me?”

Gu Xiheng hadn’t expected his sister to say such things and immediately pulled her back behind him. ”Ai Yue, don’t misunderstand. My sister didn’t mean it that way.”

Ai Yue was surrounded by a low-pressure aura as she stared fixedly at Gu Xiheng. Then, she suddenly gave a charming smile. ”Since she’s Young General Gu’s sister, I have to give you some face regardless, right?”

Ai Yue’s beauty wasn’t the stunning kind. On the contrary, at first glance, her round face and large eyes made her look like someone who was easy to bully.

However, after looking for a while, one would find that she was the most captivating one. The resilience, bravery, and clarity revealed in her eyes were things that her physical appearance couldn’t suppress.

”Alright, come down first. Don’t you want to get out? You can leave by following the cave entrance over there,” Gu Xiheng said with a bit of a headache.

Ai Yue stopped talking and used her flying tiger claws to nimbly climb down from above.

Just as Ai Yue was about to leave, Gu Xiheng called out to her again. ”Ai Yue, how did you get here? Do you want to come back with us?”

”Thanks for the concern, but no thanks. I’ll drive back myself,” Ai Yue replied flatly.

”Drive? Where did you get a car? Didn’t you lend yours to us?”

”I met a guy on the road trying to force himself on me, so I robbed him and came in his car.” Ai Yue spoke nonsense with a straight face, the lies coming easily.

Cheng Siyu’s expression turned slightly sour. She had never seen Gu Xiheng show such concern for another girl. For a moment, her heart was a swirl of emotions, and a hint of jealousy couldn’t help but surface.

A look of helplessness appeared on Gu Xiheng’s face, and he could only change the subject. ”By the way, Ai Yue, let me introduce you...”

”Young General, I found it!” Yan Li suddenly shouted from over there in surprise.

Gu Xiheng couldn’t bother with introductions anymore. He hurriedly apologized and ran toward Yan Li.

Ai Yue instinctively wanted to follow, but Gu Xitian blocked her. ”This isn’t something you should know. Didn’t Miss Ai want to leave? Please.”

Gu Xitian’s naive charm from when she was in front of her brother had vanished completely. Instead, with a face full of disdain, she rolled her eyes at Ai Yue and continued, ”Stop hitting on my brother and stay away from him. He’s already engaged to my Sister Siyu. Go back to wherever you came from.”

A blush crept onto Cheng Siyu’s pale face as she clutched her injured arm. ”Xitian, don’t talk nonsense!”

”What nonsense? If it weren’t for this damned Apocalypse, you two would have been married long ago. Would we have waited until now? Ai Yue! Please leave here immediately and do not spy on military secrets!”

Just as Ai Yue was about to speak, Cheng Siyu spoke first. Biting her crimson lip, she gave Ai Yue an apologetic smile and said, ”Xitian is still young; don’t take what she says to heart. Miss Ai clearly looks like someone destined for great things, so how could you be obsessed with petty romance, right?”

Right my foot, where did these two come from? What the hell did I even say? You two are tag-teaming to lecture me just because Gu Xiheng said two words to me? There’s something wrong with you!

”Miss Gu, and this beauty here, you can rest assured. In my eyes, Gu Xiheng is just a man. He’s not that special. So, can you get out of my way now?”

Having received the assurance she needed, Cheng Siyu gave a charming smile and pulled Gu Xitian aside to clear the path. ”Of course!”

*Hiss.*

Heavens! Even though her personality didn’t seem great, her beauty was truly beyond words, several times better looking than those so-called TV stars.

No wonder Gu Xiheng wanted to marry her; even she, a woman, could hardly stop her heart from fluttering. Dammit, she’s too beautiful!

Ai Yue had originally felt a slight shred of goodwill toward Gu Xiheng, but the moment she learned he actually had a fiancée behind him, that goodwill came to a screeching halt and vanished completely.
