Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

63: Gu Xiheng’s twin sisterGu Xiheng gripped the keys in his hand, hesitating for a long time before finally saying, ”Ai Yue, I know you have secrets. Just by looking at your family’s mental state, one can catch a glimpse of it. Moreover, in this period where everyone is starving, your family can still raise a tiger. How many people do you think would be green with envy? If my father and I hadn’t been suppressing it in the tower, do you think your parents would have been left in peace? Fortunately, you are often out and not at home, which provides an explanation for your food source, otherwise...”

Speaking to this point, Gu Xiheng paused and continued:

”Ai Yue, you must be careful in your future actions. There won’t be few people who, like me, notice something is wrong with you. Even those of us who have shared life-and-death experiences will become curious and want to peek at your secrets; you can imagine what others would be like!”

Gu Xiheng spoke bluntly.

”I’ve said all I can. Your family needs to be more careful in the future.”

After speaking, regardless of whether Ai Yue’s heart was in turmoil, Gu Xiheng briskly pulled open the door and walked out.

Ai Yue was startled into a cold sweat. She had been careful enough, yet someone still noticed the clues.

Fortunately, this was inside the Safety Tower, and she usually had little contact with people. Other than Gu Xiheng, there shouldn’t be anyone else who realized something was wrong with her.

However, Gu Xiheng’s words served as a reminder to her: the Safety Tower was not absolutely safe.

This time, the marauder she kept on the surface was forcibly borrowed. If her space were truly discovered, she would be placed under house arrest to serve others exclusively. Such an ending would be considered lucky; she feared her parents would be dragged in, and she would be treated like a lab rat for experimentation.

Thinking of this, Ai Yue shuddered.

She couldn’t treat the Safety Tower as her final place of stability. She had to find a way out so that if any problems arose, she could quickly evacuate with her family.

Ai Yue silently planned her future path until her stomach began to growl. Only then did she snap back to reality, seeing Da Wang staring at her resentfully.

Ai Yue let out a chuckle and immediately took out its favorite beef hind leg plus a chicken. Da Wang gave a low growl and began to tear into them contentedly.

Her parents hadn’t returned yet, so she planned to eat first. When they came back, she would ask what they wanted to eat and take it directly from the space.

Ai Yue ate a bowl of plain noodles for lunch. Having no heart to continue watching movies, she flashed into the space to organize her supplies and pass the time.

Seeing the undiminished supplies in the space, Ai Yue felt a sense of confidence. She planned to go out and find a place to settle temporarily once the rain stopped.

Base Center, the six-story small tower.

”Father, if Brother can go, why can’t I? I’m not inferior to him; I want to go too.”

A sweet-looking girl leaned against the table and spoke angrily to Gu Yan.

Gu Yan sat in his chair, tiredly pinching the bridge of his nose with a sigh. ”Tiantian, why do you insist on going? This isn’t child’s play. Besides, the marauder only seats ten people. Wouldn’t you just be adding to the chaos? It’s enough that your brother is going.”

”Father, I’m not a child anymore. I’m the same age as Brother. He can already hold his own, but what about me? I’m still hiding under your wings like a baby. Dad! It’s the Apocalypse; I want to train myself to become someone like Brother!” Gu Xitian’s sweet face was full of determination.

”No, this operation is different from others; it’s extremely dangerous. Don’t even think about it.” Gu Yan turned his swivel chair around, his back to Gu Xitian.

”Isn’t it just competing with the Dark Gold Bio-Corporation for the energy stones that can unlock Superpowers? I’m a geologist; I can quickly help Brother and the others identify which ones are energy stones. I can be of help.”

With a ’swish’, Gu Yan spun his chair back, stood up, and asked sternly, ”How did you know about such a top-secret matter?”

Seeing her father’s expression change, Gu Xitian muttered, ”I just found out by accident and didn’t tell anyone. Father! Just let me go. I really can help, and I can protect myself. I definitely won’t hold Brother back.”

After Gu Xitian spoke with conviction, she peeked at the ice-cold, stunning beauty standing in the corner.

Looking at his younger daughter’s face that insisted on going, Gu Yan pinched the bridge of his nose again in a headache.

At this moment, the stunning beauty spoke, ”Uncle, let her go. Don’t worry, I will protect Xitian with my life.”

Hearing the words of this child who had grown up by his side, Gu Yan’s expression softened.

The ice-cold beauty was the daughter of Gu Yan’s good friend. When her parents were young, they followed Gu Yan—then the crown prince of the Gu Clan—to venture into the business world abroad. Unexpectedly, they offended a local criminal syndicate. Her parents were killed by them while protecting Gu Yan. Although Gu Yan later wiped out the criminal syndicate, her parents could never return.

After her parents passed away, they only left her behind at one year old. To repay her parents’ life-saving grace, Gu Yan took her in and cared for her like his own daughter, giving her the nickname Niannian, meaning to always miss her parents.

Later, when Gu Yan had the twins, Niannian stayed with them as they grew up.

Growing up by Gu Yan’s side, she was the one he trusted most.

Gu Yan’s already wavering heart immediately agreed after Cheng Siyu spoke. One must know that Cheng Siyu’s skills were not inferior to Gu Xiheng’s; with her protecting his daughter closely, he was at ease.

Thus, with a wave of his hand, he agreed to their request.

A moment later, Gu Xiheng was called over and told that he had to take them along on this mission.

Gu Xiheng immediately objected, but unfortunately, his objection was invalid, and he could only take the two along.

No one noticed that since Gu Xiheng entered the room, Cheng Siyu’s gaze had lightly fallen on him, her lips curving into a smile that vanished instantly like a night-blooming cereus.

On this side, Gu Xiheng and the others were preparing supplies, ready to depart at any time once they were set.

On the other side, Ai Yue was brandishing her military knife to train herself and improve her abilities.

A day later, Gu Xiheng took the two women and seven experts from the team, driving the marauder borrowed from Ai Yue toward Xusui Mountain, nine hundred kilometers west of Yingjin City.

Two more days passed, and the drizzling rain finally stopped. The sun finally emerged, and the entire earth seemed to be awakened, revealing a posture full of vitality.

Looking at the long-awaited sun, Ai Yue also planned to go out and find a place to settle.

She didn’t have the marauder, but fortunately, she still had her long-time commute vehicle, the hummer, and the kaibaihe battle shield she had purchased at the same time as the marauder.

Although the kaibaihe battle shield wasn’t as abnormal as the marauder, it could still be called the safest armored vehicle and was a very popular combat vehicle in war zones. It also possessed Extreme Speed, something the marauder couldn’t match.

Ai Yue bid farewell to her parents and took Da Wang out of the Safety Tower. Leaving the tower alone, she would naturally be targeted. Ai Yue didn’t plan to kill them, fearing their accomplices would notice the trackers hadn’t returned and cause trouble for her parents.

Thus, after getting one li away from the base, Ai Yue flashed into her space in a hidden spot, planning to stay for three hours before coming out. By then, these people would surely disperse after failing to find her.

Sure enough, when Ai Yue came out, there was no one nearby. She took the kaibaihe battle shield out from the space, released Da Wang, and stepped on the gas. With a ’whoosh’, the car shot out and disappeared from sight in moments.
