Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

83: That’s terrifying.Everyone looked in the direction he was pointing, only to see a dense, black mass surging rapidly toward them across the entire road.

Gu Xiheng took out his binoculars to look, and his expression instantly changed. He crushed the insect in his hand and shouted, ”Quick, get in the car!”

Before they could even sit down properly, Gu Xiheng stepped on the gas and sped away.

Gu Xitian’s face was pale as she asked tremblingly, ”Brother, what... what was that just now?”

Gu Xiheng looked serious, his expression cold. ”They’re all those giant blood-sucking insects.”

”Ah!” everyone exclaimed.

”Where... where did these bugs come from? This is too terrifying.” Gu Xitian gripped Cheng Siyu’s clothes tightly, her face full of horror.

Cheng Siyu patted her hand. ”Don’t be afraid, we’re here.”

Gu Xiheng also said, ”Their speed can’t catch up to us. Let’s get back first.”

Ai Yue and the others passed through a small town and saw a few burly men crouching in a corner eating something. Hearing the sound of the car, they immediately turned their heads menacingly. However, seeing the Extreme Speed of the car, they hesitated and didn’t step forward.

In just that short moment, one of the burly men suddenly began to scream, followed by the other two.

Ye Rui’s sharp eyes noticed that their legs were covered in Bloodthirsty Worms. ”Sister, Brother Mo Li, it’s the Bloodthirsty Worms.”

In just a few moments, the three men had become three mummified corpses.

Ai Yue saw this scene in the rearview mirror and couldn’t help but step harder on the accelerator, quickly driving out of the town.

”It’s too scary, it’s just too scary, Sister, it’s too scary.” Ye Rui was frightened by the three men turning into mummies instantly and felt very uneasy.

Mo Li also looked like he had lingering fears, licking his somewhat pale lips repeatedly.

”It is scary, but you still need to accept it quickly; you’ll see even more terrifying scenes in the future,” Ai Yue said expressionlessly.

”Ah?” Ye Rui felt like her throat was blocked and couldn’t make a sound.

”These strange bugs are way too powerful, even more terrifying than the Man-eating Demons I’ve encountered,” Mo Li added.

”These bugs look terrifying, but they really dislike the smell of insecticide. So as long as you have insecticide in hand, there’s no need to be afraid,” Ai Yue explained.

”Right, right, exactly. That effect... it’s just incredible.” Mo Li’s eyes lit up, but then his tone shifted as he thought of something. ”But, it’s been so long since the Apocalypse started, where would anyone still find insecticide?”

”Ai Yue, where did your insecticide come from? Do you have more? Can you sell me some?”

Ai Yue glanced at Mo Li through the interior rearview mirror and grinned, but her words were devoid of warmth. ”Why should I sell it to you? You’d better realize that I’ve already been generous enough by bringing you back to the Safety Tower to escape with your life. Don’t dream of anything else.”

A glint flickered in Mo Li’s eyes, and he chuckled. ”Yes, you’re right. I’m very grateful to you, so I’ll listen to whatever you say. However, if you need anything after we return to the Safety Tower, for the sake of our acquaintance, you must come to me to trade. I’ll definitely make sure you’re satisfied.”

Ai Yue didn’t react much and replied flatly, ”Sure.”

She would indeed need many things later on, like those researched by the Safety Tower, but that was a long way off. For now, it was better to get through the Plague of Insects first.

Although there were people blocking the way ahead and insects chasing from behind, fortunately, Ai Yue’s kaibaihe battle shield was durable. At Extreme Speed, they returned to the Safety Tower five days later without any mishaps.

Gu Xiheng and the others weren’t as fast; they only returned travel-worn two days after Ai Yue reached the Safety Tower.

The first thing they did upon returning was go to Gu Yan’s office to tell him about the Bloodthirsty Worms!

Gu Xiheng, Gu Xitian, and Cheng Siyu looked tense as they pushed the door open and entered with serious expressions.

From the moment he entered, Gu Xiheng’s gaze went straight to Gu Yan. ”Dad...” Before he could continue, a figure suddenly lunged at him.

”Xiheng, my dear cousin, it’s so good to see you’re okay.” Mo Li hung onto Gu Xiheng before he could even make a move.

Realizing who it was, Gu Xiheng silently lowered his fist and pushed him away with a look of disgust, though his eyes were full of surprise. ”Mo Li, it’s you... You’re still alive? I went looking for you later but couldn’t find you at all. I thought you...”

”Thought what? Thought I kicked the bucket? Don’t worry, I’m a man of great fortune; I won’t die so easily.” Mo Li was genuinely happy, constantly slapping Gu Xiheng on the back.

”Then why didn’t you come back? You made us so worried! Especially my mom—she thought you were dead and cried for so long!”

Mo Li’s expression suddenly turned sheepish, and he said embarrassedly, ”I wanted to come back too, but who would believe it would take me this long to get home?”

He didn’t hide anything and briefly explained what had happened to him. Hearing that he had been saved by Ai Yue and that she had brought this directionally challenged guy back, Gu Xiheng felt happy while also letting go of his faint worries about her.

”Dad, we encountered some really terrifying bugs on the road. They even eat people,” Gu Xitian couldn’t help but say from the side.

Gu Xiheng said solemnly, ”Yes, Dad. We need to immediately prepare to resist these insects, otherwise...”

”Yes, I know about this. In fact, I already started deploying measures five days ago. This time, Mo Li also brought back a method to resist these Bloodthirsty Worms, so don’t worry,” Gu Yan said calmly with a wave of his hand.

”Ah? In advance? Dad, how did you know?” Gu Xiheng had originally intended to notify his father via satellite phone, but unfortunately, the satellite phone had been destroyed during his conflict with Sheng Jiyuan and the others.

Gu Yan told him that Ai Yue had discovered the insects and had Ai Guosheng notify him, which was why the deployment was made in advance.

At this point, Mo Li also chimed in about Ai Yue discovering that insecticide could be used to fend off the Bloodthirsty Worms.

”She’s amazing; she’s always one step ahead in getting information and can quickly find a solution,” Gu Xiheng couldn’t help but remark.

Seeing the deep admiration in his eyes, Cheng Siyu’s heart sank, and she clenched her fists.

Gu Xitian snorted disdainfully, ”What’s so amazing? It must have been a blind cat hitting a dead mouse. She’s just a weak-looking girl; how could she have such great ability?”

Gu Yan laughed and waved his hand at her, saying, ”Ah, the world is full of wonders. You must never judge a person by their appearance.”

Despite Gu Yan’s dignified and domineering public persona, he was always kind and easy-going with his own family’s younger generation.

Gu Xitian couldn’t argue with Gu Yan, so she could only hum twice in dissatisfaction.

Gu Yan and the others didn’t mind. Although Gu Xitian and Gu Xiheng were twins of the same age, their temperaments were completely different.

Gu Xiheng had been thrown into the army to be tempered since he was young, while Gu Xitian was beautiful and sweet-talked her way into being liked, so she was pampered and spoiled by the whole family.
