Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

95: Ye Rui’s combat talentYe Rui shuddered all over upon hearing this, her eyes sincere. ”Sister, rest assured, I won’t. Even if it costs me my life, I will never betray you.”

Ai Yue lowered her head, her long eyelashes concealing the flickering emotions in her eyes as she whispered in her heart: I hope you really are as you say and truly won’t betray me. Betrayal is too painful; I don’t want to taste it a second time... ”Sister?”

Ai Yue looked up and smiled, ”I believe you!”

”Phew.”

Ye Rui patted her chest with a look of lingering fear. ”Sister, do you know that the way you were speaking softly just now was really terrifying?”

Ai Yue looked up with a smile and said, ”What I just said wasn’t to scare you; it’s the truth!”

Ye Rui said with an air of indifference, ”I know. I’ve said it before, too—I will absolutely, definitely never betray you, Sister. I want to be with you forever!”

”Alright. Eat quickly, it’ll get cold in a while.” Looking at the serious Ye Rui, Ai Yue smiled silently.

”Mm!” Ye Rui carefully held the lunch box and took a deep breath with a look of intoxication. ”Wow, it smells so good!”

After the two finished their meal, Ai Yue took out two bottles of sparkling water and handed one to Ye Rui.

Seeing the long-unseen sparkling water, Ye Rui’s eyes turned into stars as she said, ”Sister, you’re either an immortal or Doraemon.” Then she quickly grabbed it and took an impatient sip.

”Mm, it’s the taste of my dreams! Sister, did you know? I love drinking sparkling water the most, but when I was little, my mom was so strict she wouldn’t let me drink it at all. I thought that once I became an adult, I’d definitely drink my fill. I never expected...”

At this point, Ye Rui sniffed and held back the tears in her eyes. ”I never expected the Apocalypse to come. My family members are either dead or missing, leaving only me, and I was even... *sob sob*”

Ye Rui thought of her tragic past, and tears fell like rain!

Ai Yue patted her shoulder to comfort her. ”It’s all in the past. Don’t be afraid, Sister is here. Don’t you like drinking sparkling water? Sister will provide plenty! You can drink as much as you want! Okay?”

”Pfft.” Ye Rui couldn’t help but laugh. ”Mm, I feel like since I started following you, my world has been filled with light and my path ahead is full of hope. I don’t ask for anything else now; I don’t even need sparkling water. I just want to follow you, Sister. Please don’t leave me behind, okay?”

Ai Yue rubbed her head: ”Alright!”

”Alright, it’s time for us to go.”

”Mm, let’s go. I can definitely handle one more now without a problem. If I work hard, I can even take down two!”

”Mm, I believe you!”

Half a month later, Ai Yue took Ye Rui and moved to a new battlefield.

After finishing the cleanup around the base, Ye Rui had grown tremendously. She progressed at lightning speed; killing an Ancient Centipede no longer took a long time. She could kill one in just a few minutes and extract the transparent stone.

Eventually, there were none left near the base, and they gradually moved further away from the Safety Tower.

”Rui Rui, you still need to practice your reaction speed. Also, you’re not proficient enough with your Superpower. So, from now on, any group of fewer than ten Ancient Centipedes will be left to you.”

Ye Rui patted her chest and tilted her head up. ”Okay, Sister, leave them all to me. You just wait to collect the transparent stones.”

She really loved seeing those scary-looking behemoths being killed by her, collapsing beside her with a loud ”thud.”

The feeling of piercing through its shiny black armor plates to find and extract the transparent stone was like finding treasure.

She was deeply immersed and couldn’t get enough.

Ai Yue felt that Ye Rui was born for combat. Her combat talent was truly remarkable; she had to be nurtured well so as not to waste her talent.

After just a short half-month, Ye Rui no longer needed Ai Yue’s assistance to kill several Ancient Centipedes in a row; she could handle it all by herself now.

The two drove for about four hours and arrived at a city that had become a ruin.

As the two of them walked along the deserted streets, Ye Rui looked at the once-prosperous metropolis that had fallen to such a state, momentarily dazed.

”Rui Rui, focus. Don’t get ambushed!” Ai Yue reminded her.

”Ah? Yes!”

Ye Rui snapped back to her senses and looked around cautiously.

Ai Yue’s sharp eyes spotted a deep hole in an overgrown flower bed by the street. She walked over quietly, squatted by the hole, and rubbed some soil between her fingers.

”The soil is very moist, which means this hole was just dug. There should be some deep underground,” Ai Yue said softly to Ye Rui, who had followed her.

”Sister, let me test it!”

Saying that, Ye Rui took out a jar of Bloodthirsty Worms from her backpack and poured them onto the walls of the hole, blocking the Bloodthirsty Worms that tried to leave and preventing them from coming back up.

The two guarded the entrance of the hole, waiting for their prey.

After a moment, a ”rustle-rustle” sound of soil being dug came from deep underground.

”Rui Rui, get ready!”

Ye Rui immediately stood by the hole, ready for battle.

Listening closely, the sound grew louder and louder.

Suddenly, a large swarm burst out of the deep hole—at least twenty or so.

”Sister, there are too many, I can’t handle them alone,” Ye Rui said with a bitter face.

Ai Yue knew that for Ye Rui to deal with Ancient Centipedes, ten was already the limit; even one more would be too much.

”It’s okay, I’m here. I’ll help you block the extras, and the remaining ten are yours.”

”Yes! Sister.”

Ai Yue charged into the Ancient Centipedes barehanded, showcasing her strength. With every punch and kick, an Ancient Centipede was sent flying.

Ye Rui was not to be outdone, weaving through the centipedes like a butterfly to practice her reaction speed. When she really couldn’t dodge in time, she would give an Ancient Centipede a baptism of lightning.

The centipede’s movements would pause, and she would take the opportunity to slip away.

With Ai Yue’s strength, fighting these large insects was like child’s play, but the most troublesome part was the Ancient Centipede’s thousands of legs.

It was most difficult when it crawled on the ground; its legs were like blades that kept people from getting close, and the armor plates on its back were indestructible.

It caused Ai Yue quite a bit of trouble, but fortunately, the centipedes’ intelligence was low. Every time they attacked a person, they would stand upright, creating many opportunities for them.

Soon, Ai Yue finished the battle and collected all the transparent stones she obtained into her space.

The house in the space was upgrading rapidly... Without the pressure of numbers, Ye Rui soon finished her battle as well. Although she was fast, she still accidentally got injured.

Although she was injured, Ye Rui was happy. She felt that her strike speed had become even faster this time, and she fought with more ease.

”Sister, here, transparent stones!” Ye Rui proudly handed Ai Yue a handful of transparent stones she had extracted from the centipedes she killed, seeking praise!

”Very impressive!” Ai Yue gave her a thumbs up.

”Hehe...” Ye Rui chuckled and was about to speak when she was interrupted by Ai Yue.

”Shh... listen!”

Ye Rui listened but didn’t hear anything.

She stared at Ai Yue in confusion... ”The sound is getting louder. Not good, run!”

Full of confusion, Ye Rui started running fast with Ai Yue. Their direction was the kaibaihe battle shield parked five hundred meters away.
