Our Family Has Fallen

Most of the patients in the Leprosy Camp were waiting outside the tent, eagerly anticipating the results of the treatment, whether it was success or failure, they were prepared.

However, no one was willing to give up that slim chance.

Perhaps it will really succeed...

Among them, Baldwin’s tall figure was particularly noticeable. He was allowed to return to care for those leprosy patients, but he had to avoid reinfection.

Thus, what he wore on his face was not a mask but a face covering, draped with cloth to cover his exposed body, and gloves—basically fully equipped.

However, he seemed somewhat worried because, although he had regained much of his hearing, he did not hear any movements from the patients. Instead, several doctors were discussing something he couldn’t understand, and it was quite intense, which was obviously not good news.

Moreover, the treatment he received was very painful, so he was unsure if the others with their fragile bodies could endure it.

These dilemmas lingered until the tent door was lifted and Lord Lance came out to announce to everyone.

”Everyone, look at me, look at me. I have an announcement to make.” Lance raised both hands and shouted loudly to draw everyone’s attention. ”The new treatment is very successful. We have confidence in treating leprosy. In Hamlet, you will attain redemption.”

Even though Baldwin’s experience was already a reference, this statement still evoked emotions among the patients.

They practically bowed and chanted the name of Lord Lance in awe, their twisted bodies combined with this scene appearing somewhat eerie.

They will receive redemption here...

Baldwin looked at the crowd bowing towards Lance, the scene of cheering mixed with sobbing was indescribable, but soon he was relieved.

Yes, he too had received redemption here.

Lance watched this scene without a big reaction. Why, when he clearly could use Flesh Reconstruction to pull them back from the brink of death, did he not do it, considering the virus could be dealt with later?

Because he wasn’t a charity worker. Doing it this way would have immediate effects, but what about the consumption of Spiritual Essence?

Moreover, by treating this matter, he could erode Baldwin’s prestige and instill his own image into these patients.

This was undoubtedly a show, but humans needed this to unite.

If he were to use them, Lance would not allow them to form small groups among themselves or tolerate anyone having higher prestige than himself.

He needed to ensure his absolute control over Hamlet.

There were only about a dozen patients here in total; anesthetize and inject two shots before moving to the next.

Even Baldwin was brought in for a shot, but it was to test if the self-healing effect could truly induce cell differentiation.

The focus was on nerve and brain recovery. Some cells are meant to die; when they’re gone, they’re gone, beyond the scope of the human body’s self-healing.

Lance was prepared for failure because the structure of the human body wasn’t as simple as that of the Flesh Devourer, which had complex functions.

But the test results were surprisingly thrilling.

”It’s a success!” Lance’s face was bursting with unconcealed ecstasy. No one probably knew what this represented.

But Lance understood that as long as someone was injured, drinking a vial could allow them to heal quickly. This was to say that the [Blood Vial] in those fantasy works like games, anime, and novels had appeared.

Also, there was something like a [Panacea] that could eliminate most diseases.

Most diseases in this world became a joke in front of these two potions, and since it worked on the human body itself, it meant that drug resistance would not exist anymore from today onwards; diseases would no longer threaten human survival.

Recalling something unknown, Lance suddenly felt a bit dejected.

To speak the truth, he had a bias against supernatural power since it went against the worldview he had constructed throughout his life.

Similarly, because supernatural power brought so much uncertainty to this world.

Without supernatural power, even if the ancestor had more ambition, at most he would be a freak genius villain, influencing maybe just a region, or exaggeratingly a small country, eventually taken down by some special forces king or XX captain.

But in this worldview, the ancestor’s ambition was magnified by supernatural power to an unknown extent, even coveting to seize ”divine” power, thus bringing destruction to the world.

And as the hapless heir, he hadn’t even ”enjoyed himself” before being forced to fight for his life against the ancestor; not fighting wasn’t an option, because he didn’t want to turn into a tumor.

However, he too relied on supernatural power to rise, otherwise how could an ordinary scholar possess the power to counter the ancestor in such a short time?

Yet, within Lance’s heart lay a certain modern superiority, especially with Hamlet’s development from a shabby little fishing village to its current state.

Moreover, the improvements he promoted in life, medicine, and education, among others, once again certified that his ideological notions were superior.

These emotions provided him enough psychological resistance against the shocks brought by supernatural power along the way.

Like those flashy monsters, Lance was confident that people who’d seen modern weapons wouldn’t fear them.

Your corruption plague, flesh monsters, I’ll turn on a flamethrower, and you’ll all become a barbecue.

What Pigman, monster, can’t even withstand cold weapons, let alone hot ones.

The holy enchanted armored Knight charging forth, my Steel Torrent will flatten, every one of them is a crunchy tin can.
