Our Family Has Fallen

All the requests were made by Lance, and she was responsible for solving the technical problems. It can be said that the accumulation of the Deerhead Tribe is significant, and the Witch’s legacy also helped a lot.

When Lance was out, she handled the affairs, and now that Lance is back, she is once again immersed in research, currently focusing on another project—perfume, another scythe for harvesting women.

These blossoms filling the courtyard were her research materials, not because she truly enjoys gardening.

”This is a newly brewed fruit wine, made using your extracted fruit essence. Since the target customers are women, try it when you have time and see if there are any suggestions for improvement.”

After placing a box of fruit wine down, Lance discussed some issues about essential oil extraction with her, as the fragrance is one of the featured flavors in his crafted wine.

Despite having some education, Lance, although lacking innocence, has been taught the practice of extracting essential oils and related operations.

Grendel possesses some tribal secret techniques, and among Lance’s possessions, the Bald Sorcerer’s legacy even included methods to convert people into essential oils, with the products being particularly potent and having various strange effects.

However, her current research direction was to remove the help from supernatural powers, since once these techniques mature, they are destined to be handed over to ordinary people.

When discussing serious matters, Lance no longer displayed his carefree demeanor. Upon seeing her busy, he did not intend to continue disturbing her.

Lance would not trouble others to satisfy his own needs; mutual respect is the basis for harmonious coexistence.

Today’s visit to the distillery had another significant reason; before going on the second Beast Lair investigation mission, Lance had promised Boudica that after completing the task, she could drink to her heart’s content.

Regarding the Beast Lair trip, Lance need not elaborate, even Amanda, who initially drew a prophecy of death, was unharmed and gained Lance’s approval, while Alhazred, who was the most likely to encounter problems, overcame his inner demons.

Others were fine, but she was the one who got injured, fell ill, and became the unluckiest during the journey.

Though there were some realistic factors, such as her being a frontline fighter without armor.

But with her obsession to abstain from alcohol and the initial promise that she could drink after completing the task, Lance felt there was somewhat of a mysticism factor, suspecting that she fell victim to the very flag she set.

Moreover, having persuaded her while abstaining from alcohol made Lance feel guilty.

The three-day period had arrived, so naturally, he had to reward her well, fulfilling his promise.

However, when Lance went to her room, he found that she wasn’t there.

She had just recovered; where could she have gone?

Could she have sneaked off to drink?

Lance immediately activated ”Bloodhound Tracking” and followed the scent outside.

To Lance’s surprise, the scent led not to the plaza but to the outskirts.

As he proceeded, the number of surrounding buildings diminished, and Lance realized what lay ahead.

The dog-training arena.

This area was specially designated after William described his failure to train wolves, a region set apart from the town center.

Reflecting on it, Lance realized he was impulsive, not considering the reality when he left the wolves to William.

Aside from the small yard in that house, a few wolves placed inside had no space to turn, making it difficult for William.

Moreover, the chaotic and noisy environment around the town center, which made wild wolves accustomed to wilderness tranquility more anxious.

Not to mention, these wolves posed a threat to ordinary townsfolk, detrimental to both people and wolves.

Translocating them to this area improved things considerably.

Approaching closely,

Thick wooden stakes were driven into the ground, with hefty wooden planks connecting above, enclosing this area completely, sealing it off, a site distant from human activity, without the same noisy impact, and no more chilling wolf howls being heard.

”My Lord!”

William, being the sheriff, wasn’t always around; a wounded veteran was responsible for managing this area.

”Alright, any difficulties recently...” Lance nodded in response and then engaged in a brief chat.

Lance remembered him from the defense of the now-burned farm, a battle where the Witch used plagues to drive monstrous invasions, and Hamlet’s assembly of troops aimed to intercept them, but the enemies were too powerful.

During that battle, a beast bit off his hand, leaving him covered in wounds, fortunately, his life was spared.

Faced with the Lord’s concern, he appeared a bit nervous or excited, as being remembered by His Lord was the highest honor for him, the severed hand was seen not as a disability, but as a medal.

On the battlefield, he fought relentlessly, ignoring the threat of death, only realizing he lost a hand and suffered severe injuries upon waking on a sickbed.

The agony extended further with plague infection, the creeping fear of being devoured was even more terrifying than death.

The loss of a hand meant being a burden, to his family, to Hamlet, despair enveloping him, considering ending it all more than once.

Just hoping that My Lord would truly deliver the pension to his family.

Yet, the Lord did not abandon them, personally engaging in their treatment, vowing to cure the plague at all costs.

He survived, saved from despair by the Lord, then assigned the relatively light duties here upon recovery.

Besides him, many retired soldiers wounded or disabled for various reasons were arranged by Lance at suitable positions throughout the town.

Even if Lance’s various miraculous supernatural powers could not regularly care for them, such is the cruelty of war, disaster never far from Hamlet, merely blocked by soldiers.

True to his promise, Lance neither abandoned them nor relinquished anyone loyal to Hamlet.

This underscores why Lance must foster a medical system independent of supernatural power, as the limitations of the supernatural power wielded by Transcendents are extensive, stability is manageable, but carelessness leads to loss of control along with various negatives.

”When they first arrived some time ago, these wolves were fierce, attacking even during feeding, but now they lie sunbathing without caring about humans.”

”No worries, go about your business. I’ll look around myself.” Lance reassured him, then walked into the simple dog-training arena on his own.

Being enclosed by wooden panels, the internal structure wasn’t apparent, but as the designer, Lance understood the layout.

The primary structure was a designated activity yard supplemented by a row of independent enclosures separating the wolves.

Doors opened at specific times daily, one wolf released for two hours, then returned and replaced with the next.

Why not herd these wolves together rather than complicating things?

Lance lacked extensive knowledge about wolves, while William studied them, treating wolves as dogs and vice versa.

The reason is straightforward.

Wolves are social creatures, but only when there’s an alpha do the remaining wolves coexist peacefully.

Without an alpha, the other wolves compete for leadership, battling until victory determines peace.

These female wolves, separated from their pack and without Wang Cai, the alpha, may not compete as aggressively due to their gender.

But the issue is these wolves are pregnant, making them more sensitive to environmental changes, heightening stress reactions to any anomalies.

Hence, isolating them prevents fighting.

Additionally, independent spaces offer them safety, nurturing pregnancies peacefully without sudden stress.

The two hours of daily activity signal a gradual taming process.

William understood that hard tactics couldn’t be employed to tame pregnant wolves, yet they could acclimate to management rhythms.

Food serves as lures to release them from enclosures, later to entice them back in.
