Our Family Has Fallen

Furthermore, William put a lot of effort into the food; they can’t eat raw meat anymore, it’s all cooked, not a trace of blood.

At the same time, the diet slowly shifted from being purely meat-based to mixed, cooked dog food, and eventually changed to dog food as the main diet, turning meat jerky into a snack.

This is also a subtle form of domestication, changing the wolves’ dietary structure and eroding their wildness.

But the cost of this dog food is not cheap at all; chicken, fish, and offal are just the main components.

Vegetables, fruits, bone meal, and fish oil must be added, along with starch regulation.

William might not understand the principles, but Lance noticed the balance of critical components needed by life forms: protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and unsaturated fatty acids. Even Lance himself doesn’t eat such a nutritionally balanced diet.

We can only say that William certainly has some secret family skills involved, truly deserving of being a professional dog trainer.

It’s not a modern phenomenon that people eat worse than dogs; it has existed since ancient times.

Because ordinary people can’t afford to keep such pets, otherwise, why would mentioning hunting dogs immediately bring to mind nobility and large households?

If it weren’t for Hamlet’s abundant fishing resources and cheap fish, it would really pain him.

More importantly, these wolves are all pregnant females, so Lance accepted it.

Because the mother’s debts are repaid by the child, the future wolf pups are candidates for military and police dogs. They don’t have salaries, so there’s no need to be harsh on them.

In this place, even people, let alone dogs, must be loyal to Hamlet.

Entering the area, you can see the wolves lying in their dens, previously with messy fur and injuries, now with sleek, shiny coats and appearing plumper overall.

Particularly, their bellies are vaguely swollen, remnants of the bloodline left in reality after Wang Cai’s Spirit Ascension.

Here, there’s no worry about food and drink, there’s shelter from the wind and rain, and there’s no danger. They eat their fill and lie in the sun, and after sleeping well, they wait for the next meal.

Every morning starts with this routine, nothing else~

Lance walked over, but those wolves didn’t pay him any attention because William said that desensitization training is an important step toward socialization.

People are directly scheduled in rotation, changing every three days to now having someone from the training camp come over to feed them daily. There is no need to care about the wolves’ reactions; just leave the food and go.

This gradually lets the wolves understand that humans come to give them delicious food and will not harm them. Once they get used to it, that’s how it is.

Similarly, those training camp individuals may partner with these wolves in the future, so they get to know each other in advance.

Previously, they would howl at strangers, now they can’t even be bothered to look up when people approach, completely ignoring them, unless it’s mealtime.

People who say wolves can never be tamed are simply idiots. If there were no tamed wolves, how could there be dogs?

Is the first dog supposed to be their father?

These wild wolves were wild enough, but now, fed and housed, they’re all lying around with no signs of aggression.

But even so, the area for human activities and the area for wolves are still separated. Lance needs tamed wolves, not biting mad men.

Right now, they’re just being fed, far from being tamed. Just because they seem harmless isn’t a reason to let them out.

No matter what, dogs will bite people, let alone wolves.

Since these wolves are all pregnant, there’s nobody coming over besides feeding and letting them out for exercise, except the veteran in charge of the place.

However, there is an exception here.

Lance looked at Boudica, who was squatting in front of a wolf den, trying to tease a mother wolf through the fence.

He didn’t hide his actions, and Boudica soon noticed the Lord walking towards them.

”Boss, why are you here?”

”Just taking a look.” Lance didn’t say directly that he was looking for her; instead, he teased with a smile, ”Aren’t you afraid it will bite you?”

”Nah, they’re well-behaved! I’ve fed them a few times, and they haven’t bared their teeth at me, unlike that Wang Cai, who I can’t even touch.” Boudica laughed, waving the grass in her hand in front of the mother wolf, but the mother wolf simply looked disdainful and ignored her completely.

Lance focused his gaze on the mother wolf being bothered by Boudica. It was clear Boudica had been annoying this mother wolf for some time because Lance could see impatience in its eyes, though there wasn’t any obvious resistance, knowing it couldn’t win and had given up.

”What made you think of coming here to play? Have you recovered?”

”I’ve recovered long ago. I lay in bed with no one to talk to, so I came out to take a look.” Boudica’s cheerful demeanor dimmed, and her expression turned a bit despondent, ”The boss is busy, the big sister is busy, everyone is busy. It’s good to be busy...”

Most people in the town know that Boudica is someone close to the Lord, but unlike Grendel, who has a naturally high affinity, her personality is not likable, and she has little in common to talk about with others.

Plus, she can’t do anything besides fight, unlike others who all have jobs.

Before she quit drinking, she could go to the tavern to drink and brag, then find people to brawl with. But after causing trouble and getting a taste of Lance’s iron fist, she became well-behaved.

Without drinking and fighting, and with Lance and Grendel both busy, it means that if she doesn’t have tasks, she doesn’t even have anyone to talk to, ending up talking to a wolf.

It’s no wonder she’s so enthusiastic every time she goes to fight monsters; it’s one of the few times she feels needed.
