Our Family Has Fallen

”I organized all the experiment reports last night and I feel that your line of thinking is wrong.”

Lance spoke bluntly, directly denying her from the direction, which counts as a serious accusation. Someone with less psychological endurance might have just walked away in a huff.

However, Paracelsus was not greatly affected by this. She wasn’t someone who couldn’t handle doubts, and more importantly, she knew Lance must have discovered something to say such a thing.

”Why? Have you found something new?”

”Previously, you thought the principle at work was the toxicity of the secretion. I guess it’s because of its exhibited strong corrosive ability and the preconceived notion induced by Baldwin’s leprosy treatment that gave you such an idea.

First, we shouldn’t simply generalize it as corrosion, but rather a series of complex decompositions, like muscle and bone, which are finally combined by some substance, forming clumps of aggregations.

But have you ever thought about why this Flesh Devourer’s secretion is so corrosive, yet it doesn’t harm itself?”

”So you mean what’s at work isn’t the secretion?” Paracelsus seemed to understand but also seemed not to, raising an objection, ”But I’ve already conducted a control experiment, and the test mice that were not injected with diluted secretion did not acquire a self-healing ability.”

”But don’t forget, the Flesh Devourer we obtained was only half intact, and the secretion had long been mixed with its blood and bodily fluids. This is a contaminated sample, not of much reference value.”

The only thing we can confirm now is that the diluted secretion has an impact on the human body when we assume it’s some kind of substance.

This substance, once entering the organism, triggers a special state achieving a temporary self-healing ability, but the cost is that the body’s cells, to obtain sufficient nutrients for repair, fall into endless hunger.

This occurs at the cellular level, greatly stimulating the human immune system, devouring and digesting all waste including aging cells and viruses.

And the crystallizations or bodily fluids formed by the secretion are largely decomposed nutrients, which, when supplemented, also complete the requirements for self-healing, enabling a swift recovery.”

Lance explained in simple terms.

He believes the key lies in the bodily fluids or secretion of the Flesh Devourer possessing some substance that plays a crucial role. The genuine effectiveness in clearing viruses isn’t this substance itself, but rather this substance activates and even strengthens the biological immune system, which is actually an effect accompanying the ”self-healing ability.”

Hearing this, Paracelsus fell into deep thought, not raising further objections, after all, she could vaguely sense that there were many inexplicable issues with her viewpoint stemming from her own experiments.

”To be honest, the function of this secretion cannot yet be determined, given that our current experimental materials are limited and contaminated, so what I’ve mentioned are merely hypothetical scenarios based on experiment report organization.”

To truly conduct research, we need better microscopic tools and more experimental studies, and most importantly, we need uncontaminated raw materials.”

Lance brought up a real core problem. Regardless of the principle, it’s certain that this stuff can trigger a powerful self-healing ability.

However, there’s a crucial problem, which is if the material sources can’t be effectively controlled, it’s nothing more than a joke.

Lance suddenly remembered something intriguing, that is, the Flesh Devourer was crafted by the ancestor; does that mean the ancestor is actually the real inventor and they are merely the discoverers?

Thinking this way, damn if the old guy isn’t a genius in biological research, it’s just a pity he doesn’t do legitimate work.

”I want to go to the Beast Lair.”

Paracelsus’s words pulled Lance back to reality, and looking over, he felt her urgent impulse.

Eager to capture a Flesh Devourer for research immediately.

”Calm down first, that thing is not an ordinary beast. I’ll catch one for you if I have the chance.”

Lance had to appease her, all matters must step aside for the next phase of wild actions, it’s impossible to rashly disrupt the rhythm for this matter.

Seeing Paracelsus’s state, Lance knew he had to find something to keep her busy, otherwise, who knows what trouble she might cause in her pursuit of research.

”We’ll gradually figure out the principles later. Right now, let’s focus on curing those leprosy patients first.”

”Are you starting human experiments? But...”

As expected, Paracelsus was drawn back to focus on this, yet she still distinguished between test subjects and patients, being rash in administering unclarified treatment could be problematic.

”What are you afraid of with me here, and if we don’t treat them soon, they’ll die. Besides, who knows if the materials would spoil.” Lance didn’t care, giving instructions, ”Remember, this matter mustn’t be spread, the potion’s formula is top secret.”

It took a lot for Lance to finally dissuade her before he left the sanatorium.

He hadn’t returned all night and learned from Susan’s words that Grendel came looking for him last night, only returning quite late.

Staying in the sanatorium last night was entirely unexpected; perhaps not using the Messenger to find him meant it wasn’t anything too urgent.
