Our Family Has Fallen

After discovering this situation, she conducted research in this direction, and after many attempts, it was found that body fluid injected with secretions could accelerate self-healing.

Now the mystery of this is being continuously explored deeply...

”Current research has found that most of the experimental rats injected with secretion fluid showed some degree of weakness. If they can be fed with an extract of the reacted body fluid, recovery can be accelerated, and the rats’ appetite and excitement levels will also rise.

However, I found that this self-healing ability is only temporary, and it will diminish quickly.”

Lance listened, isn’t this just the extraction of immune serum?

Using a living organism to react with the secretion, then extracting the resulting body fluid with certain reaction products, using it can grant self-healing ability, although only temporarily, when that substance is depleted it returns to normal.

”You’ve cracked the Flesh Devourer’s self-healing ability, but what about curing leprosy? Can this self-healing ability actually restore necrotic muscle, mucous membranes, and nerves?”

”The discovery of this was also a coincidence.” Paracelsus raised his hand to adjust his glasses, looking somewhat proud.

It was rare for Lance to see such an expression on her, but now he was more concerned with the condition of those medications.

After the research on experimental rats was preliminarily verified, Paracelsus directly initiated human testing, but did not apply to Lance, instead planning to make use of waste.

Initially, to research leprosy, she specifically applied for several test subjects to experiment with infection methods, and eventually even inoculated a few to observe the degree of infection and the state of illness.

There was no choice, having many test subjects means being this audacious.

Leprosy has an incubation period, but after such a long time, some already showed symptoms, and after days of torment, they were half dead.

No one would pity these villains, as they never thought they’d face such a day when they were pillaging and committing all kinds of evil.

Paracelsus, adhering to the principle of not wasting, used them to test the impact of these substances on the human body, but unexpectedly, when repeating the Rats experiment to verify whether it could be replicated in humans, she inexplicably found them cured of leprosy.

”I injected them with diluted secretions, according to your virus theory, I think the diluted secretion entered the body and killed the cells while also killing the virus, because the body can endure it, but the virus couldn’t, and after injecting the dissolved substance, the self-healing ability was enhanced, so the symptoms could be resolved.”

Hearing her research results, Lance was filled with emotion.

”What you said makes sense, the secretion is a powerful and terrifying corrosive, but after utilization, it can actually create two powerful drugs.

One can eliminate leprosy symptoms, and the other can accelerate wound healing, directly breaking the Church’s blockade on this.”

Lance spoke solemnly, indicating forward, ”The starting point of modern medicine began in your hands, and now you have propelled it, a hundred, even thousands of years from now, perhaps some might not know me, this fallen Lord, but they will definitely know you, the founder of modern medicine.”

Originally, Lance somewhat disregarded medical research, because Grendel’s supernatural powers combined with tribal secret techniques, Herbology, and Witch’s legacy, was truly strong.

But now Paracelsus, quietly, has come up with something big.

Last time, it was the discovery of a fungal-inhibiting drug similar to penicillin, and now, the discovery of these two remarkable drugs that can even be considered supernatural powers.

It can be said that she single-handedly pushed modern medicine ahead by a large margin, at this moment Lance understood that his early indiscriminate investment indeed could bring genuine surprises.

What the hell defines a surprise?

This is the goddamn surprise!

”It’s the Lord who brought back these research materials that allowed me to make discoveries, without your support I would probably never have access to these in my lifetime.”

Paracelsus appeared very calm, not letting those words inflate her ego.

In the past, being able to steal corpses for dissection research was considered good, let alone having experimental subjects now.

Not to mention that all her needs, whether research materials or funds, were all covered by the Lord, allowing her to research freely without worrying about other influencing factors. Paracelsus felt like she had arrived in paradise.

”I didn’t expect you to learn flattery too.” Lance quipped with a smile, ”These are your discoveries, no one can change that, and I am clueless about these, there are still many fantastic organisms and many diseases yet to be resolved in this world.”

What Lance focused on was not reputation or status, as he didn’t need those.

By contrast, he had to ascertain the authenticity of Paracelsus’s research results, as they were crucially important.

Lance did not leave, instead beginning to review Paracelsus’s experimental reports, as well as the conditions of the experimental subjects.

Lance’s mental capabilities had transcended that of ordinary humans, yet even he could only gradually tackle these complex and tedious experimental reports.

After rearranging them, Lance also noticed the theoretical problems of Paracelsus, and couldn’t help but speak out.

”Your hypothesis seems affected by Grendel’s treatment method, combined with interference from the corrosiveness displayed by the Devourer’s secretions.

I’m suggesting whether it’s possible that this corrosiveness…”

As Lance was enthusiastically discussing, he suddenly realized why there was no response. Upon turning around, he noticed that Paracelsus had fallen asleep on the desk.

Upon witnessing this, Lance couldn’t help but recall Grendel mentioning that the doctor was always staying up late.

Probably Paracelsus has been pulling all-nighters, continuously investing in research trying to achieve more, which explains her ghostly state.

Lance’s gaze accidentally fell on the makeshift bed beside her, she probably had been sleeping here during this period.

”Not going home, sleeping in such a gloomy place aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?” Lance couldn’t help but make a sarcastic remark, as she likely wasn’t afraid of ghosts, daring to steal corpses in the past, a strong materialism warrior.

”Sleep isn’t good like this…”

Lance carefully picked her up, perhaps she was too exhausted, sleeping like a log, yet her body was still too thin, feeling as light as a kitten.

He placed her on the bed and covered her with a blanket, but it felt somewhat off, after contemplating for a while he realized, reaching out…

To remove her glasses, making her look much more normal.

Then he retrieved a soothing incense concocted by Grendel and placed it by her bedside, to dispel the muddled smell of the sanatorium.

Lance originally was smiling, but upon turning back and seeing a stack of headache-inducing reports, the confident smile on his face instantly turned into a wry smile.

Initially intending to urge Paracelsus to rest, unexpectedly got himself involved instead.

It’s strange… I didn’t plan to work overtime either...

Knowing you have to wake up early for work the next day, regardless of how much sleep, there’s a sense of urgency, like an enemy is closing in on you step by step.

It’s just that Paracelsus was off today, at least her subconscious felt that way.

Thus, she slept in till she naturally woke up, and upon awareness returning, felt her body completely rid of fatigue, feeling quite refreshed.

”Awake?”

A voice suddenly made her frown slightly, due to nearsightedness being a bit blurry, when she picked up the glasses on her bedside and put them on, she saw Lance at the workbench turn his head to look at her.

Um… why is he here? What happened last night?

Paracelsus was momentarily at a loss, but soon caught on.

Oh right, doing research.

”How’s the situation?” Paracelsus noticed the reorganized experiment data and immediately got up and walked over.

Lance saw that upon waking she threw herself back into the research, momentarily not knowing what to say.

He had heard in his past life that people involved in research often got somewhat maniacal, which now seemed true.

But engaging in such tedious and dull work in research, indeed couldn’t proceed without a bit of madness.
