Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

”As expected...”

Taking the backpack from the crew member, Chen Mo quickly found the source of the light.

Just as he had anticipated...

The objects glowing brightly inside were the two Unown Stone Tablets he had been carrying.

At the same time...

The livestream exploded into chaos.

[It’s the Unown CP duo!]

[Holy crap! Teacher Chen, why do you still have those? Didn’t you say Unown C and Unown P sacrificed themselves during the Mount Cangqing incident?]

[Classic Teacher Chen. Always keeping a trump card hidden.]

[Why did they turn into stone tablets...?]

[Let me guess. After stopping the crystallization disaster, they didn’t actually die—they transformed into these tablets instead. Teacher Chen deliberately hid that fact because he wanted to protect them in this form.]

[So why are they glowing now? Are they about to revive?]

Chen Mo’s first thought was exactly the same.

Are the Unown waking up?

But after thinking about it...

He remembered what Unown P had told him back at Mount Cangqing.

It would remain asleep for a very long time.

That prolonged slumber was the price paid for resolving the crisis.

Even the other Unown had no way around it.

So...

Chen Mo temporarily ruled out the possibility that they were awakening.

If that wasn’t the reason...

Then what was causing the glow?

”Teacher Chen.”

”We’ve arrived.”

The captain’s voice interrupted his thoughts.

Chen Mo looked up.

The island now lay fully before them.

It really wasn’t very large.

From the bow of the Gullwing, one could almost see from one end to the other.

Aside from scattered trees...

It was exactly as Tentacruel had described.

No signs of any other life.

”I’m going ashore to investigate.”

Chen Mo turned toward the crew.

”You all stay here and wait for me.”

”Understood!”

The captain nodded immediately.

”Please be careful.”

He couldn’t sense Aura...

But he knew perfectly well...

Those two stone tablets suddenly glowing at this location couldn’t possibly be a coincidence.

As an ordinary person without Pokémon...

The best thing he could do now...

Was follow Chen Mo’s instructions.

Soon...

At Chen Mo’s signal...

Hao Tianyu handed camera duties back to Gengar.

After adjusting his backpack...

Chen Mo carried the two glowing Unown Tablets...

Together with his Pokémon...

And stepped onto the tiny island of sand and reefs.

The instant his feet touched land...

He felt the two stone tablets in his hands begin to tremble.

Warmth continuously flowed from them.

”So it’s this way...”

Chen Mo quickly realized...

Whenever he walked in a particular direction...

The tablets vibrated more violently.

Without the slightest hesitation...

He strode forward.

Finally...

As though crossing some invisible threshold...

The trembling became so intense...

He could barely hold onto them.

A strange intuition welled up inside him.

At that moment...

He loosened his grip.

The two Unown Tablets immediately floated into the air.

Crossing one another as they spun...

Radiant white light poured forth.

Ripples spread through empty space.

”That’s...”

Even the crew aboard the Gullwing saw it.

Just like back in Hongjing Slope Forest...

Space itself split open.

Purple and blue light seeped through the crack...

As though inviting anyone outside...

To step into that unknown world.

”Teacher Chen!!”

Watching the phenomenon in the distance...

The captain couldn’t help shouting anxiously.

At first...

The crew had treated Chen Mo with respect because of his extraordinary status.

But after living together aboard the ship for so many days...

That respect had become something heartfelt.

Hearing their voices...

Chen Mo caught the two tablets as they fell back into his hands.

Turning around...

He raised one hand and waved reassuringly.

”Don’t worry!”

Then...

He looked back toward the spatial rift opened by the Unown Tablets.

”Are you sure you want to go in?”

Marshadow asked quietly.

”You know this already.”

”Time and space belong to those two.”

”Crossing into their domain isn’t as simple as you think.”

”Back in Hongjing Slope Forest...”

”You entered safely because the two Unown protected you the entire time.”

”But now...”

Although the stone-form Unown had opened the dimensional rift...

Marshadow seriously doubted they possessed any conscious awareness anymore.

Stepping through now...

Would be extremely dangerous.

Chen Mo understood that perfectly well.

”Marshadow...”

”You felt it too, didn’t you?”

”...”

Marshadow fell silent for a moment.

Then nodded softly.

Ever since the Unown opened the rift...

The Aura blanketing the surrounding sea...

Had grown several times denser.

Chen Mo could feel it.

The truth.

Or rather...

The Aura Trial he had been searching for.

It lay beyond this doorway.

”I really don’t understand you.”

Marshadow sighed.

”Normally you’re incredibly cautious.”

”So why do you suddenly become reckless at moments like this?”

It felt deeply uneasy.

Although the Aura pouring from the rift remained gentle...

Warm...

And all-embracing...

Marshadow also sensed something else.

Something...

Impossible to describe.

Yet instinctively terrifying.

Chen Mo possessed Aura as well.

Marshadow knew...

He had sensed it too.

”This...”

Chen Mo gazed quietly at the dimensional rift.

”...is exactly what makes humans so complicated.”

”I want to try.”

”...”

”What an idiot.”

”Do whatever you want.”

”I’m done trying to stop you.”

Even as it grumbled...

Marshadow quietly took the Rainbow Wing from within its body...

Holding it tightly in its hand.

Having made up his mind...

Chen Mo retrieved several Poké Balls.

He recalled Absol...

Pidgeot...

And Gible.

Only Pikachu...

Gengar...

And Jirachi remained outside.

Looking toward the flood of comments filling the livestream...

Chen Mo smiled.

”The longtime viewers already know...”

”This isn’t my first time entering a space-time rift.”

”So don’t worry.”

”I’ll be back soon.”

”However...”

”I have no idea what’s on the other side.”

”Nor do I know whether there’s any signal there.”

”So the livestream may be interrupted for quite some time.”

”I hope everyone can understand.”

After giving a brief explanation...

He thanked the audience one final time.

Then looked toward his Pokémon.

”Let’s go.”

Everything prepared...

Chen Mo stepped into the dimensional rift.

Together...

With his Pokémon.

The moment Gengar entered...

The livestream disconnected completely.

The crew aboard the Gullwing...

Together with countless viewers across the nation...

Could only silently pray...

For everyone’s safe return.

Inside the Space-Time Rift

The moment Chen Mo crossed through the portal...

He found himself inside a mysterious realm woven from deep violet and sapphire light.

Stretching before him...

Was a perfectly straight path of white light...

Leading toward another luminous gateway in the distance.

”So that’s the destination...”

Without hesitation...

He started walking.

However...

It didn’t take long for him to realize...

The road was far more dangerous than it appeared.

Dark blue and purple energies constantly churned around him.

Occasionally...

Violent spatial currents swept through the mysterious dimension.

Without the Unown to shield him...

Chen Mo had to stop whenever one of those storms arrived.

One careless step...

And he might fall from the path entirely.

”Pika pika?”

(What happens if we fall?)

Perched on Chen Mo’s shoulder...

Pikachu curiously peered over the edge.

Squatting patiently while waiting for another storm to pass...

Chen Mo smiled wryly.

”We might...”

”End up in another time or another world.”

”Geh?”

(What does that mean?)

Floating beside him...

Gengar still didn’t fully understand the concept of time and space.

After thinking for a moment...

Chen Mo explained.

”It means...”

”We could end up somewhere without barbecue.”

”Without soda.”

”Without phones.”

”Without televisions or computers.”

”Maybe...”

”Without humans.”

”Without Pokémon.”

”Just...”

”A completely barren wasteland.”

Gengar shivered violently.

For a Pokémon that had grown accustomed to modern conveniences...

Loved parties...

Loved interacting with people and Pokémon alike...

Such a place would truly be hell.

Jirachi also looked frightened.

Grabbing tightly onto Chen Mo’s sleeve...

It asked timidly,

”Chen Mo...”

”I’m scared...”

”It’s okay.”

Chen Mo gently cradled Jirachi in his arms.

”Even if we end up somewhere like that...”

”I’ll stay with all of you.”

Feeling Chen Mo’s warmth...

Jirachi rubbed affectionately against his arm.

”If Chen Mo is there...”

”Then I won’t be afraid anymore.”

”We’ll always stay together.”

Chen Mo smiled.

”Mhm.”

Jirachi nodded.

After thinking for a moment...

It added softly,

”Even if Chen Mo is there...”

”I still don’t want everyone to end up in a place like that.”

As it spoke...

Jirachi closed its eyes.

The power of wishes activated once more.

An invisible force enveloped Chen Mo and all of his Pokémon.

Instantly...

The turbulent spatial currents weakened considerably.

Jirachi slowly opened its eyes.

Its little face looked exhausted.

”I’m sorry...”

”This is... all I can do...”

”You’ve already done wonderfully.”

”You don’t need to apologize.”

Chen Mo gently stroked its head.

”Get some sleep.”

”We’ll be there soon.”

”Mhm...”

Jirachi nodded.

Completely at ease...

It drifted asleep in Chen Mo’s embrace.

Another spatial storm subsided.

They continued onward.

Even with Jirachi’s help...

Chen Mo remained extremely cautious.

Every time another current approached...

He stopped immediately...

Waiting patiently until it passed.

Again and again...

The process repeated.

Finally...

When only a short distance remained before the exit...

Another storm arrived.

As usual...

Chen Mo stopped.

Calmly waiting.

Then...

He noticed something strange.

Every previous time...

Gengar had squatted beside him to avoid the turbulence.

But this time...

Gengar stood upright.

Staring fixedly into the depths of the purple-blue void.

”Gengar?”

”What’s wrong?”

Chen Mo asked.

Even Gengar looked confused.

”Geh...”

(I feel like...)

(Something’s coming this way...)

”...Huh?”

Chen Mo tilted his head.

They were inside a dimensional rift.

How could anything move freely through a place filled with such violent spatial storms?

Surely...

It couldn’t be those two Legendary Pokémon who governed time and space?

There’s no way we’d run into them by sheer coincidence.

Even so...

Unease crept into his heart.

Instinctively...

He asked Marshadow.

”Do you sense anything?”

”No.”

Marshadow answered calmly.

Chen Mo finally relaxed.

Among his ordinary Pokémon...

Gengar possessed the greatest strength.

But compared to Marshadow...

Who constantly remained on guard within the Shadow World...

Its perception couldn’t possibly compare.

”Maybe...”

”You imagined it.”

Thinking Gengar had simply become nervous because of what he’d said earlier...

Chen Mo stood up...

Patting Gengar gently on the back.

Yet...

Gengar didn’t move.

Its eyes remained locked on the depths of the swirling purple-blue expanse.

”Geh!”

(No!)

(I’m not mistaken!)

(It’s coming!)

At that exact instant...

Marshadow, gripping the Rainbow Wing...

Felt every alarm in its mind erupt simultaneously.

”Look out!”

Without hesitation...

It unleashed the Rainbow Wing’s power.

A second layer of Ho-Oh’s protection enveloped Chen Mo.

The next second—

Space itself twisted.

A torrent far more violent than any previous storm...

Exploded toward them.

Thanks to the combined protection of...

Jirachi...

Marshadow...

And Ho-Oh...

Chen Mo barely managed to keep his footing.

But...

There wasn’t the slightest relief on his face.

Because now...

He felt it too.

From the direction Gengar had been staring...

Came an overwhelming aura of violence...

Of destruction.

In that instant...

Chen Mo understood everything.

His expression turned grim.

Slowly...

He spoke a single name.

”...Giratina.”
