Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Many Legendary Pokémon possess the ability to become invisible.

Take Meloetta, for example. As a Normal/Psychic-type Pokémon, whenever it traveled around Anping City—or anywhere else in the world—it normally remained invisible.

It was an incredibly practical ability.

While such invisibility was practically meaningless against certain pieces of human high technology in the original Pokémon world...

With the technological level of this world...

There was still no way for humans to see through a Legendary Pokémon’s concealment.

Therefore...

As a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon, Jirachi could do exactly the same.

If it wished...

It could travel alongside Chen Mo while remaining invisible, just like Meloetta.

At least...

That had been Chen Mo’s plan before Jirachi awakened.

However...

After Manaphy’s reminder...

Chen Mo suddenly realized something.

Remaining invisible would indeed ensure that no one coveted Jirachi because of its extraordinary abilities.

But...

Jirachi wasn’t like Marshadow.

Marshadow spent nearly every waking moment hidden inside the Shadow World, rarely speaking a word, acting like the ultimate introvert.

Could Jirachi really live that way?

The answer was...

Absolutely not.

Chen Mo couldn’t even imagine what Jirachi’s mental state would be like.

This was the same little Pokémon that constantly chirped, ”Chen Mo! Chen Mo!”

The same one who started asking, ”Why hasn’t Chen Mo come back yet?” after he’d been gone for only a few hours.

If they traveled together while Jirachi remained invisible...

Then for nearly ten hours every day...

Chen Mo wouldn’t be able to openly respond to it.

And that wouldn’t just last for a day or two.

It would continue indefinitely.

Feeling that he worried too much about everything...

Chen Mo decided that this time...

He should do something.

At the very least...

He wanted Jirachi to have a perfectly reasonable excuse to stay by his side.

”...So that’s what happened.”

”Last night, the Prince of the Sea, Manaphy, came to see me and temporarily entrusted this unknown Pokémon called Jirachi to my care.”

Wearing the helpless expression of someone saying, ”A friend gave it to me, so how could I refuse?”

Chen Mo calmly explained to the camera Gengar was holding.

At the same moment...

Countless viewers watching the livestream completely exploded.

Jirachi...

Sitting on Chen Mo’s shoulder beside Pikachu, each occupying one side...

Its tiny star-shaped body and slightly absent-minded expression...

Was simply too adorable.

[No way... This Pokémon is... way... WAY too cute!!! I love it so much!!!]

[Why would Manaphy come in the middle of the night just to give Teacher Mo a Pokémon? Is this the distortion of humanity or the loss of morality? Confess! What secret relationship do you and the Prince of the Sea have!?]

[Wait... Chen Mo and the Prince of the Sea already have a child!?]

[What!? Jirachi is Teacher Mo’s child!? (Wait... can humans and Pokémon have babies? Hehehe... I have a bold idea.)]

[Get all you degenerate furry freaks out of this stream! Not a single one of you shall remain! Fight!!!]

[Teacher Mo, you’re the worst! Something this important happened last night, and you didn’t even stream it! I swear, you’re hopeless!]

[Come on, it involved a meeting with a Legendary Pokémon. Of course he couldn’t just livestream it. Haven’t you figured out Teacher Mo’s style by now? Compared to that, I’m more interested in Jirachi. I checked the Pokédex just now, and there’s absolutely no information on this Pokémon.]

[It’s not in the Pokédex? Now I’m curious. Since it was given to him by a Legendary Pokémon, it’s got to be at least pseudo-legendary level... Maybe even...]

Facing the barrage of comments...

Chen Mo remained completely calm.

He spoke with a trace of regret.

”Everyone should pay attention to how I just referred to Jirachi.”

”An unknown Pokémon.”

”A Pokémon whose existence is still completely unknown.”

”Sounds confusing, doesn’t it?”

”But when introducing Pokémon before, I’ve said more than once...”

”There are still countless Pokémon in this world that we know nothing about.”

”And Jirachi...”

”Is one of them.”

”So...”

”I’m sorry, everyone.”

”Although Manaphy temporarily entrusted Jirachi to me...”

”My knowledge about it is limited to its name.”

”And...”

”Even that name...”

”Was something Manaphy told me.”

The livestream fell silent for a brief moment.

Then...

It erupted once again.

Ever since Chen Mo began introducing Pokémon...

He had never once failed.

From common Caterpie found everywhere...

To Legendary Pokémon...

He could always explain something.

Even previously...

When Pokémon absent from the Pokédex had appeared at the garbage dump in Anping City...

As soon as Chen Mo arrived...

He immediately identified them as Trubbish and Garbodor, explaining most of their habits on the spot.

In the hearts of most viewers...

Chen Mo was the genuine Pokémon expert.

Especially regarding Pokémon species...

He seemed omniscient.

[No way... There’s actually a Pokémon Teacher Mo doesn’t know...?]

[Even the all-knowing Teacher Mo has fallen... I suddenly feel like my faith has collapsed...]

[Calm down. Teacher Mo never asked anyone to worship him. He’s said countless times during his streams that he’s just an ordinary Pokémon educator and trainer.]

[Exactly. Aside from official research, most of Teacher Mo’s Pokémon knowledge comes from being the Hero of Ideals. Sure, Zekrom is a Legendary Pokémon, but it’s not literally omniscient. Isn’t it perfectly normal for there to be things even it doesn’t know?]

The chat argued endlessly.

Chen Mo didn’t mind in the slightest.

Back during the Pikachu Cup...

He had already shattered the halo above his own head once.

This time...

He simply shattered it more thoroughly.

To others...

That might seem like an enormous loss.

But to Chen Mo...

Compared with allowing Jirachi to openly remain by his side...

The cost was practically negligible.

Very quickly...

As reports spread across various online platforms...

More and more people learned that a Pokémon even Teacher Mo didn’t recognize had appeared.

Viewers flooded into the stream.

The chat became even more chaotic.

After observing the comments for a while...

Chen Mo confirmed that no one had seen through the story he and Manaphy had fabricated.

Satisfied...

He turned his attention back to the day’s business.

Since they would be heading out to sea in search of the Aura Trial...

Chen Mo had booked an ocean-going cruise ship online the previous night.

The process had gone remarkably smoothly.

The moment the ferry company learned who he was...

The highest-ranking executive available immediately took over the negotiations.

Their attitude toward Chen Mo...

Could only be described as overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

They kept offering discounts and benefits...

Apparently terrified that Chen Mo might choose another company instead.

Once again...

Chen Mo experienced firsthand just how influential he had become throughout the Xia region.

In the end...

He signed an extremely affordable contract in exchange for helping promote the company.

According to their agreement...

The cruise ship—named the Wingull—had departed immediately after the contract was signed last night.

At the latest...

It would arrive in Crescent Moon Town by noon today.

Meanwhile...

Chen Mo brought Jirachi and the other Pokémon into town to purchase supplies for the voyage.

”Gengar! Gengar!”

(Enough already! We still haven’t used up everything we packed from home last time!)

Watching Chen Mo continue tossing all kinds of daily necessities into the shopping cart...

Gengar, who knew almost all of it would eventually end up inside his own body...

Couldn’t help protesting.

Jirachi...

Who had just happily picked up a box of cream-filled biscuits under Chen Mo’s instructions...

Looked helplessly toward him.

Seeing that...

Gengar let out a deep sigh.

It looked as though it had accepted its fate.

”Gengar...”

(Fine, fine.

Take whatever you want.

If there’s anything you want to eat, grab more.

I’ve still got room.)

”Jirachi!”

Delighted...

Jirachi flew over and rubbed its little face affectionately against Gengar.

At that instant...

Teacher Gengar felt that everything had been worth it.

But...

That feeling didn’t last long.

Having waited a thousand years for only a brief period of wakefulness...

Jirachi was a bundle of endless curiosity.

Everything new fascinated it.

Watching Jirachi continue shopping without restraint...

A look of sheer horror slowly appeared on Gengar’s face.

”Gengar!!”

(I can’t fit any more!

This time I seriously can’t fit anything else!)

[Hahaha! Teacher Gengar sounds genuinely panicked! I wish we could see his face right now!]

[Jirachi is so adorably clueless. As expected, only a Pokémon like this can keep Teacher Gengar in check.]

[I’m curious. Why is Teacher Mo buying so many supplies? Is he planning to go somewhere?]

[Well, Crescent Moon Town is basically wrapped up. Considering Teacher Mo’s personality, the fact that he’s stayed here being treated like a giant panda for this many days is already incredible.]

[Where’s he going next? We haven’t seen any new wild Pokémon lately...]

Facing everyone’s questions...

Chen Mo didn’t keep them guessing.

He answered straightforwardly.

”I came to the coast in the first place to introduce everyone to the Pokémon that live exclusively in the ocean.”

”So our next destination is obvious.”

”The sea.”

Instantly...

The livestream exploded with excitement.

Meanwhile...

Chen Mo led Pikachu, Jirachi, and the others toward Crescent Moon Town’s harbor.

The salty scent of the sea drifted in with the humid breeze.

Under the brilliant midsummer sun...

The endless blue ocean shimmered in the distance.

”Jirachi!”

That morning...

After waking Jirachi...

Chen Mo had explained why he’d stopped Gible from waking it the previous night.

He had also told Jirachi about their upcoming journey.

Normally...

Jirachi wouldn’t use telepathy to communicate with Chen Mo and the others.

So now...

Seeing the vast ocean for the very first time...

The tiny Pokémon darted happily through the air.

”Jirachi! Jirachi!”

It excitedly cried out...

Trying its best to express its joy.

Chen Mo patiently responded beside it.

Except for Magikarp...

None of his Pokémon had ever seen the ocean before.

When they first arrived in Crescent Moon Town...

They’d reacted exactly the same way.

Leaping around with excitement.

Just then...

A long, melodious ship horn sounded in the distance.

On the horizon...

A blue-and-white cruise ship slowly approached.

Painted across its hull...

Was the image of a gigantic Wingull.

”Pika!”

”Gible!”

This time...

Not only Jirachi...

Even Pikachu, Gengar, and the others became excited.

Most boats in Crescent Moon Town belonged to fishermen.

Compared with those cargo vessels...

The sightseeing yacht before them looked completely different.

And far prettier.

”Pika pika?”

Perched on Chen Mo’s shoulder...

Pikachu remembered the photos Chen Mo had shown them that morning.

It immediately turned toward him...

Asking if this was the ship they’d be traveling on.

When Chen Mo nodded...

Pikachu immediately dragged Jirachi away.

Even Gengar abandoned its duties as cameraman.

The three happily bounced around the dock.

”...Absol.”

Absol looked rather uneasy.

Earlier that morning...

Worried that Absol might still suffer from seasickness...

Chen Mo had simply asked Jirachi to grant a wish in advance...

Eliminating the problem before it happened.

Still...

Although Absol trusted Jirachi’s abilities...

It had never actually tested them.

The fear left behind from its previous experience riding in a vehicle still lingered.

Understanding this...

Gible quietly stood beside Absol...

Offering constant words of encouragement.

Listening to Pidgeotto’s cheerful chirping nearby...

Chen Mo smiled warmly.

Waiting...

For the Wingull to dock.

”Teacher Mo!!!”

Someone suddenly shouted from behind.

After learning that Chen Mo was leaving Crescent Moon Town...

Many residents had voluntarily come to see him off.

Because the voice sounded familiar...

Chen Mo instinctively turned around.

A young man wearing a red-and-white cap...

Accompanied by a Charmeleon whose tail blazed fiercely...

Pushed through the crowd and ran toward him.

”Teacher Mo...”

”Oh.”

”It’s Tianming.”

Chen Mo asked curiously,

”You look like you’re in a hurry.”

”What’s wrong?”

”Nothing.”

”I just heard you were leaving...”

”So I came to see you off.”

”And...”

”To thank you.”

After catching his breath...

Gao Tianming flashed his usual bright smile.

Yesterday...

The miracle Manaphy displayed during the sea farewell ceremony...

Had been credited almost entirely to Chen Mo.

Everyone assumed...

It was Chen Mo who had persuaded Manaphy to help.

Chen Mo could only smile helplessly.

He couldn’t reveal the truth behind that miracle.

Nor could he explain that Manaphy had acted because of Yu Heguang’s spirit.

So...

He simply accepted the misunderstanding.

Still...

Combined with everything involving Jirachi...

Chen Mo and Manaphy had effectively taken the blame for one another.

Their friendship...

Had quietly grown another step closer.

Slowly developing into the kind shared by trusted friends.

”It wasn’t entirely my doing.”

Chen Mo smiled.

”But...”

”I’ll accept your thanks on Manaphy’s behalf.”

”Oh, right, Teacher Mo.”

”I actually have something else I want to tell you.”

”What is it?”

”I’ve finally learned how to face my past.”

”I’m not lost anymore.”

Both Gao Tianming...

And Charmeleon...

Wore determined expressions.

Grinning broadly...

The young man declared,

”I’m heading back to Anping City this afternoon.”

”The next time we meet...”

”I’ll show you just how much Charmeleon and I have changed.”

”We’re going to become incredibly strong.”

Listening to the boy’s declaration...

Chen Mo froze for a brief moment.

Then...

He nodded gently.

Smiling...

”I’ll be looking forward to it.”
