Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

[Starting exactly at 8 AM? This can’t be Teacher Mo. Who are you? Give us back the Teacher Mo who always shows up late!]

[Good thing I set an alarm, otherwise I would’ve missed the stream.]

[Honestly, Teacher Mo is probably just traveling today. Missing the beginning isn’t a big deal; we probably won’t miss anything important.]

[If that’s true, then why were you the first person waiting in the stream?]

[Pikachu is so cute~]

[Teacher Mo, can Pikachu show us that special form again? I’ve watched yesterday’s battle against Banette over twenty times already. It was insanely cool!]

[I came here immediately just to ask: when did Teacher Mo become the Hero of Ideals? What’s it like? And is Zekrom here? If Teacher Mo can summon Zekrom on stream, I’ll buy a Governor membership immediately!]

[Exactly! Everyone’s forgetting the important part—Zekrom! According to the murals in that ancient ruin, the Hero of Ideals is always accompanied by Zekrom.]

[Honestly, this makes everything less exciting. I used to worry about Teacher Mo’s safety whenever he went into the wilderness. Now I realize I was the clown all along. With Zekrom protecting him, he doesn’t need anyone worrying about him.]

[Everyone calm down. I spent all night analyzing this and found a blind spot. When Teacher Mo encountered Hydreigon in Evergreen Forest, he was clearly in mortal danger. Yet even then he didn’t summon Zekrom. So I seriously suspect Zekrom isn’t actually with him right now.]

[Hah. Meloetta already confirmed he’s the Hero of Ideals, and Teacher Mo admitted it himself. According to the legends, how could Zekrom not be by his side?]

[Can you stop being so aggressive? Did I deny that he’s the Hero of Ideals? I’m just pointing out a reasonable observation based on facts. Is that not allowed?]

July 14th.

8:00 AM.

Clear skies.

As soon as Gengar activated the livestream, viewers from all over the country flooded into the stream.

The chat exploded instantly.

There were simply too many people.

Even though the stream had only just begun, the screen was already overflowing with messages.

After watching for a while on his phone, Chen Mo realized that if he left chat completely unrestricted, it would be impossible to read anything at all.

A few minutes later, after asking Bilibili’s staff to filter out low-level and meaningless messages, he finally managed to see the ongoing argument between the viewers debating the Hero of Ideals and Zekrom.

Chen Mo had no intention of getting involved.

Having Marshadow’s protection was one of the biggest reasons he dared to travel right now.

But he wasn’t foolish enough to tell everyone that Zekrom wasn’t actually by his side.

As long as there remained even the slightest possibility that Zekrom existed nearby, it would serve as a powerful deterrent to anyone harboring ill intentions.

”It’s getting late.”

”Today’s schedule is pretty tight.”

”I need to reach the campsite I’ve planned before nightfall, so we’d better get moving.”

As he spoke, Chen Mo opened the SUV’s doors and helped his Pokémon climb aboard.

Then he explained to some of the newer viewers:

”Anyone who’s watched my previous expeditions should already know that before reaching the destination, there usually isn’t much actual Pokémon education content.”

”And personally, I don’t talk much while driving.”

”So the next couple of days might be pretty boring.”

”Prepare yourselves.”

The moment he finished speaking, question marks flooded the screen.

[A couple of days!? Teacher Mo, where exactly are you going? That sounds really far away.]

[He’s definitely leaving the province. Last time at Azure Mountain he introduced tons of Pokémon. I feel like he’s already covered most of the common species nearby. Time to move somewhere new.]

[Let’s goooo!]

[It’s fine, Teacher Mo. Just focus on driving. We’ll find our own ways to entertain ourselves.]

[Speaking of that, I just remembered something. Is it only Brother Yi going with you again? Aren’t you waiting for Ah Hui? I saw on his account that he’s being discharged today.]

”As usual, I won’t reveal the destination yet.”

”As for Ah Hui, yes, he’s being discharged today.”

”But he has some personal matters to deal with for a while, so we won’t be traveling together.”

”And there’s something else you’ve all misunderstood.”

”Gengar, give me the camera for a moment.”

Taking the camera from Gengar, Chen Mo pointed it directly at the grinning purple ghost.

”This time Brother Yi won’t be joining us either.”

”He has important work to take care of.”

”The one handling filming this trip is Gengar.”

”I’ve already warned him, but all of you know what Gengar is like.”

”If you suddenly hear creepy laughter from somewhere off-screen...”

”Please don’t panic.”

The explanation immediately caused another explosion in chat.

Chen Mo ignored most of it.

Handing the camera back to Gengar, he climbed into the driver’s seat and prepared to leave.

Although he had never publicly mentioned it, Chen Mo had long since decided that the first destination of this journey would be New Moon Town, the coastal settlement rumored to have traces of a Legendary Pokémon.

The System’s guidance only pointed him in a general direction.

He had no idea where the Aura Trial actually was, nor how to trigger it.

For now, he could only proceed step by step.

That was also why he’d told Hu Chengliang yesterday that this trip would be unusual.

He had already set aside three whole months for it.

”Pikachu.”

”Absol gets carsick, and Gengar has to handle the camera.”

”So for the next couple of days, I’ll leave Gible in your care.”

As he slowly drove out of the neighborhood, Chen Mo glanced at the rearview mirror.

”Gibleee—”

Under Pikachu’s guidance, Gible had its mouth wide open toward the incoming wind.

The rushing air produced a bizarre noise.

Exactly like Pikachu had done during their first expedition.

Chen Mo couldn’t help smiling.

Then he thoughtfully rolled up the window.

Unfortunately, that did nothing to dampen Gible’s enthusiasm.

It and Pikachu stood on the rear seat, leaning against the glass while chatting excitedly and staring out at scenery they’d already seen countless times before.

”I’ve told you both many times. Looking outside is fine, but don’t stand—”

Suddenly, the car slowed to a stop.

Chen Mo’s sentence ended halfway through.

Pikachu immediately panicked.

It hurriedly dragged Gible back into their seats and sat obediently.

Yet Chen Mo wasn’t looking at them at all.

Instead, he lowered the window and called out:

”Mo Yu?”

”And... Mr. Mo?”

”What are you two doing here?”

Standing beside a black sedan at the neighborhood entrance were none other than Mo Yu and her father.

”Teacher Mo, sorry to bother you.”

The weathered middle-aged man offered an apologetic smile.

”It’s fine.”

Chen Mo waved him off as he stepped out of the vehicle.

Then he asked curiously:

”What’s going on?”

”It’s like this.”

Mo Yu quickly explained.

”Axew has something it wants to give Gible.”

”That’s why we waited here.”

”Huh?”

Chen Mo blinked.

Then realization dawned.

”Wait a second.”

Soon enough, after hearing that its good friend Axew had arrived, Gible came running over on its tiny legs.

It excitedly searched the area.

But Axew was nowhere to be seen.

Just as confusion filled its face, Mo Yu’s helpless voice came from the black sedan.

”Alright, alright.”

”Come out already.”

”Gible’s here.”

”Are you really going to stay inside the car?”

”Don’t you want to give it the gift?”

”I’ve already told you.”

”If you don’t come out now and Gible leaves, you’ll miss your chance.”

”The next time you see it will be at least half a month from now.”

”Understand?”

Finally, after much persuasion, a battered-looking Axew slowly climbed out of the vehicle.

It was carrying something in its arms.

”That’s...”

Chen Mo narrowed his eyes.

He could see it clearly.

What Axew held was a white fang roughly seven or eight centimeters long.

”Gible!?”

Seeing the obvious injuries covering Axew’s body, Gible immediately became worried and rushed over to ask what had happened.

”I’m fine.”

Axew shook its head.

Then it pushed the white fang into Gible’s hands.

”You grew up beside your Trainer from the moment you were born.”

”Maybe you don’t really understand how dangerous the wilderness can be.”

”So...”

”This is for you.”

After handing over the white fang, Axew turned around and returned to the car without another word.

Gible stood there helplessly.

It could clearly feel that Axew had deliberately refused to let it get closer.

Meanwhile, Chen Mo had noticed everything.

But rather than rushing over, he turned to Mo Yu and asked:

”What’s with those injuries?”

Mo Yu hesitated before finally deciding to tell him the truth.

”Last night around midnight, Axew suddenly woke me up.”

”It said it wanted to return to the tribe in Hongjing Slope Forest.”

”I thought it was strange.”

”But it seemed extremely serious.”

”So I asked my dad to drive us there.”

”Honestly, I thought it was just sad because its best friend Gible was leaving.”

”I figured it wanted to spend some time back home.”

”But after we arrived...”

”It went straight to its father, the Haxorus.”

”And not long afterward...”

”The entire Axew tribe went crazy.”

According to Mo Yu’s description:

After returning to the tribe, Axew spoke privately with its father for a short time.

Then the Haxorus left alone.

When it returned...

Every Pokémon in the tribe woke up.

Even the elderly Haxorus who rarely emerged from its cave appeared in the central plaza beneath the giant tree.

It felt like some kind of ceremony.

Every member of the tribe—

From the three Haxorus leaders to the youngest Axew—

Wore solemn expressions.

The atmosphere was so serious that both Mo Yu and her father became nervous.

Before they could understand what was happening...

The battle began.

Axew stepped into the center of the plaza and challenged another powerful Axew.

As its Trainer, Mo Yu naturally couldn’t stand by.

She first sought help from Axew’s father.

The Haxorus ignored her.

After repeated failed attempts to stop the battle, she finally chose to help her Pokémon.

With her commands, Axew managed to defeat its first opponent.

But before she could even catch her breath—

The second battle began.

This time...

Its opponent was its own father.

The powerful Haxorus.

The fight was brutal.

The gap between Axew and Haxorus was simply too great.

Moreover, Axew had already been injured during the previous match.

It was exhausted.

Again and again it was knocked down.

Again and again it struggled back to its feet.

Under Haxorus’s relentless attacks, it had no chance to dodge.

No chance to defend.

It could only endure.

Mo Yu couldn’t bear watching any longer.

Just as she prepared to forcefully intervene—

The elderly Haxorus, who had remained silent the entire time, suddenly stopped the battle.

”In the end...”

Mo Yu looked toward the white fang in Gible’s arms.

”With the entire tribe watching...”

”Axew received that white fang from the elder Haxorus.”

She shook her head in confusion.

”Teacher Mo...”

”Do you know what it is?”

”I can tell it’s extremely important to the tribe.”

”Mm.”

Chen Mo gazed at the white fang.

Then he spoke softly.

”I know a little.”

”Its name is Dragon Fang.”

”And as the name suggests...”

”For Dragon-type Pokémon, it’s an incredibly precious treasure.”
