Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

The world is going to be destroyed again?

Zhou Yichuan was numb.

It wasn’t really his fault. In just the past month, this wasn’t even the first time he’d heard something like that.

The last time had been during the Zapdos incident.

After hearing from Chen Mo about the Three Legendary Birds revered as gods, Zhou Yichuan had immediately reported the matter upward. The Countermeasure Bureau convened several large-scale meetings that very same day.

During that period, Zhou Yichuan had felt like his head was about to explode.

But there was nothing to be done.

When gods fought, mortals suffered.

If those three divine Pokémon ever truly came to blows, having contingency plans prepared in advance might save countless innocent lives.

As for solving the root cause of that world-ending threat?

There had been no solution.

According to Chen Mo, the problem wasn’t merely the overwhelming power of the Three Legendary Birds themselves.

The deeper issue was the deep ocean currents influenced by them. Once the balance maintained by the three birds collapsed, global climate disasters would follow, pushing the world toward destruction.

In other words, the Legendary Birds played an important role in maintaining the world’s balance.

Eliminating them recklessly would likely cause even greater consequences.

And most importantly—

Even if humanity wanted to do something about them, they currently lacked the power to do so.

It was an extremely passive situation.

Yet before that issue had even been resolved, before there was any news from the Zapdos that had flown south, Meloetta had arrived with yet another world-ending crisis.

Zhou Yichuan felt completely numb.

Putting aside the absurdity of a mirror causing the end of the world—

There were simply too many things capable of destroying it.

Not just the Reveal Glass and the Legendary Birds.

Chen Mo had mentioned numerous dangerous Legendary Pokémon before, including the Renegade Pokémon that had once appeared in Cangqing Mountain.

One after another, all of them possessed the ability to destroy the world either directly or indirectly.

Zhou Yichuan suddenly found himself wondering:

How had humans in the original Pokémon world survived all these apocalyptic threats?

And...

Were they still alive now?

”Isn’t that a bit exaggerated?”

”It’s only a mirror, not some top-tier Legendary Pokémon...”

One of the officials in the meeting room still found it difficult to believe.

Since the mirror belonged to Meloetta, and judging from her performance in the arena earlier, her powers were certainly mysterious—but not world-ending.

Besides, Meloetta herself had admitted she wasn’t good at fighting.

Even with a mirror enhancing her abilities, how could she possibly reach the level of destroying the world?

Otherwise, that mirror would be ridiculously overpowered.

”The facts are exactly as I described.”

”The Reveal Glass is far more terrifying than you imagine.”

Chen Mo immediately saw through the man’s thoughts.

After a brief pause, he looked around the room and spoke gravely.

”You still remember Suicune from Evergreen Forest, right?”

”The Reveal Glass possesses an ability that allows its holder to summon three Legendary Pokémon whose strength is no weaker than Suicune’s.”

”And those Pokémon will obey the holder’s commands.”

”What!?”

The entire room erupted.

The official who had raised the question shot to his feet.

Even Elder Deng’s expression became solemn.

At that moment, Zhou Yichuan finally understood why Meloetta’s standards for choosing helpers had been so absurdly high.

Nearly twenty thousand competitors had entered the Pikachu Cup.

Simply reaching the main tournament already required considerable talent.

Yet among the thousand-plus finalists, Meloetta had ultimately selected only Ah Hui and You You.

”It has to be strict...”

”If someone with evil intentions got their hands on the Reveal Glass, the consequences would be unimaginable.”

Judging from what Suicune had demonstrated in Evergreen Forest and Cangqing Mountain, a Legendary Pokémon fighting at full strength could already plunge modern military forces into an extremely difficult situation.

Three of them?

In the worst-case scenario, the world might genuinely be destroyed.

”Chen Mo.”

”You’re absolutely certain?”

”The Reveal Glass can summon and control three Legendary Pokémon?”

”Is that really what Meloetta told you?”

Hu Chengliang couldn’t help asking again after recovering from his shock.

”Yes.”

Chen Mo nodded.

In the original Pokémon anime, Team Rocket had once launched an operation known as Operation Tempest in an attempt to conquer the Unova region.

The plan’s early stages had been remarkably successful.

Giovanni, Team Rocket’s leader, used Meloetta to obtain the Reveal Glass.

Through that legendary artifact, he ultimately seized control of the Forces of Nature.

The Wind Incarnate—

Tornadus.

The Thunder Incarnate—

Thundurus.

And finally—

The Guardian of Crops—

Landorus.

According to Meloetta, although her own past differed from the anime and she had never encountered Giovanni or Team Rocket, something similar had happened during ancient times.

The Reveal Glass had once fallen into the hands of a wicked individual.

That person summoned the Forces of Nature.

The result was a catastrophe.

At that moment, Elder Deng, who had been quietly thinking, suddenly spoke.

”We’ve already conducted extensive evaluations of Suicune.”

”Let’s use our highest estimate.”

”And let’s exclude all human interference and other Legendary Pokémon.”

”Even so...”

”Three Suicunes alone would still struggle to destroy human civilization, much less the world itself.”

”At the very least, I don’t believe three Suicunes could destroy Huaxia.”

A faint smile appeared on the old man’s face.

Aside from Chen Mo, everyone else looked somewhat strange.

They had been discussing the worst-case scenario.

Naturally, everyone had subconsciously included every possible factor.

But according to Elder Deng’s interpretation, the three Legendary Pokémon would only be facing humanity.

Or perhaps only Huaxia itself.

In that case, the answer was obvious.

The military had been at a disadvantage against Suicune during the battle at Cangqing Mountain.

But just as Elder Deng said—

If humanity committed all its resources, the losses would be horrific.

Yet three Suicunes would certainly die.

There was no doubt about that.

Unless...

A terrifying thought simultaneously appeared in everyone’s minds.

”As expected of Elder Deng.”

”Your reasoning is correct.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Elder Deng continued without hesitation.

”If the world can be destroyed, then either it’s similar to the Legendary Birds.”

”The three summoned Pokémon maintain some critical aspect of global balance.”

”Or...”

”The Reveal Glass itself possesses a special power.”

”A power that surpasses even the three summoned Pokémon.”

”So tell us, Chen Mo.”

”Which one is it?”

Old ginger truly was spicier.

Chen Mo hadn’t even explained yet, and Elder Deng had already reached the heart of the matter.

After organizing his thoughts, Chen Mo replied:

”In a sense... both.”

”The three Pokémon summoned by the Reveal Glass are Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus.”

”Collectively known as the Forces of Nature.”

”Unlike the Legendary Birds, the world won’t fall into disaster simply because they become angry.”

”But if the power of the Reveal Glass is combined with Meloetta’s abilities...”

”Then things become very different.”

”In the Pokémon world’s ancient era, humans once used the Reveal Glass and the Forces of Nature under Meloetta’s guidance.”

”They endlessly generated natural phenomena.”

”They reshaped nature itself.”

”Wind.”

”Thunder.”

”And the land.”

”The powers represented by the Forces of Nature were pushed to their absolute limits.”

”With merely a single thought, the user of the Reveal Glass could freeze an entire sea.”

That wasn’t an exaggeration.

It had actually happened in the anime.

The climax of Operation Tempest saw Giovanni unleash the true power of the Forces of Nature through the Reveal Glass.

An entire stretch of ocean was instantly frozen solid.

Even a coastal town located an unknown distance away was affected.

There was a reason Giovanni believed this power could conquer Unova.

A side note:

During those events, Champion Cynthia’s ace Pokémon, Garchomp, had actually struggled against Landorus.

Back in Chen Mo’s previous world, fans and critics had argued endlessly about that battle.

Regardless of the debate, one fact remained undeniable:

Cynthia was a regional Champion.

Garchomp was her strongest partner.

Yet Landorus had suppressed Garchomp with ease.

It had also casually beaten Iris’s Dragonite, who would later become Unova Champion.

That alone demonstrated just how terrifying Landorus became when empowered by the Reveal Glass.

”...And that’s everything.”

”That’s the true power of the Reveal Glass, according to Meloetta.”

As Chen Mo finished recounting the ancient disaster caused by an evil wielder of the Reveal Glass, the atmosphere in the meeting room had become extremely heavy.

”Meloo...”

Meloetta looked deeply guilty.

Her connection to the Reveal Glass was extraordinarily close.

In many ways, she was its guardian.

Now she had lost it.

And that loss had created a threat capable of endangering the entire world.

Meloetta felt she bore most of the responsibility.

”It isn’t your fault.”

Seeing the guilt on her face, Chen Mo immediately comforted her.

”You were forced into this world.”

”Losing the Reveal Glass wasn’t your intention.”

”You don’t need to blame yourself so much.”

”Exactly.”

Zhou Yichuan nodded.

”The priority now is figuring out how to help you recover it.”

”Hmm...”

”I might have an idea.”

Everyone turned toward Hu Chengliang.

”So quickly?”

Hu Chengliang hesitated briefly before speaking.

”Is it possible...”

”And I mean only possible...”

”That only Meloetta was transferred into our world?”

”You mean the shrine remained in her original world?”

”Yes.”

Hu Chengliang recalled the strange ruins that had appeared at Cangqing Mountain.

The relics that had seemingly descended from another world.

Silence filled the room.

Truthfully, not just Chen Mo, but countless researchers wanted answers.

A transfer on such a massive scale must have profoundly affected the other world.

Everyone desperately wanted to know:

What had happened there?

And...

Did that world still exist?

”Do your best.”

Elder Deng looked around the room and spoke calmly.

”Don’t place your hopes on a world we currently have no way of reaching.”

”Focus on what we can do.”

”Since Meloetta can sense the Reveal Glass, our first objective is obvious.”

”We assist Meloetta.”

”And we search every location where the shrine might exist.”

”Without exception.”

The matter of helping Meloetta recover the Reveal Glass obviously couldn’t be settled by just the seven people in this room.

Many details still required planning and coordination.

There was no need to rush.

After leaving the meeting room, Chen Mo prepared to visit You You and Qiao Cheng in the hospital.

At that moment, Meloetta suddenly floated after him.

”Meloetta?”

”You want to visit them too?”

”Meloo.”

She nodded.

Then, after glancing at Pikachu, she hesitated briefly.

Under Pikachu’s utterly bewildered gaze, she floated over to Chen Mo’s other shoulder and sat down just like Pikachu did.

”...”

Chen Mo looked at her and smiled.

”Then let’s go together.”

”Actually, I was hoping you’d tell me more stories about you and Arthas.”

”Meloo~”

Meloetta nodded enthusiastically.

Swinging her slender legs back and forth, she began sharing memories from another world through telepathy.

Stories from the latter half of Arthas’s life.

Back when Chen Mo had met Arthas’s spirit, he had heard some fragments about those final years.

But their time had been limited.

Arthas’s main purpose had been to entrust Zekrom’s source power to him.

There hadn’t been much opportunity to discuss the past.

Now, through Meloetta’s recollections, Chen Mo finally learned just how extraordinary Arthas’s final years had truly been.

After meeting Meloetta, the two had traveled together for a time.

They wandered from nation to nation, attempting to stop wars.

Using the Reveal Glass and the Forces of Nature, they resolved countless conflicts.

They even encountered the Swords of Justice, who had appeared because of humanity’s wars.

One could say that Arthas had practically met every major Legendary Pokémon associated with Unova.

And formed deep bonds with them all.

A true legend among legends.

Chen Mo couldn’t help sighing inwardly.

Then suddenly—

A flash of inspiration struck him.

He thought of the Pokémon deeply connected to Zekrom.

The dragon that represented Truth, opposite yet complementary to Ideals.

Reshiram.

One thing had always bothered him.

The aged Haxorus had never heard any legends concerning Reshiram.

Considering Haxorus had lived in isolation after parting from its Trainer, perhaps that wasn’t strange.

But now Meloetta was right beside him.

Though she had never personally met Zekrom, she possessed close ties to Arthas and humanity.

If anyone knew something, perhaps it would be her.

”The Dragon of Truth... Reshiram?”

After hearing the question, Meloetta displayed the exact same confused expression the elderly Haxorus once had.

A bad feeling immediately rose in Chen Mo’s heart.

Then Meloetta shook her head seriously.

”I’m sorry, Chen Mo.”

”I’ve never heard of a Pokémon called Reshiram.”

”A Pokémon that opposes and coexists with Zekrom?”

”If you’re talking about Kyurem, though...”

”I vaguely remember that one.”

”It seemed very fierce.”

”And had a terrible temper.”

”What?”

”What did Kyurem look like?”

”Ah... sorry.”

”I don’t know.”

”I only heard about Kyurem from Terrakion.”

”I never saw it myself.”

”Terrakion might have described its appearance before, but it’s been far too long.”

”I really can’t remember anymore.”

”The only impression I have left is that Kyurem was very scary.”

”I’m really sorry!”

”Please give me a little more time!”

”I’ll try my best to remember!”
