”It’s your turn, Fraxure!”

”Geng-gui! Geng-gui!”

After a brief handshake between the two trainers, both sides released their Pokémon, pushing the atmosphere of the arena to its peak.

”Na-ta!”

”Ka-ao!”

The moment the two dragons—today’s stars—appeared on the battlefield, Fraxure and Gible immediately looked at each other with rather peculiar expressions.

Before the match, they had already met again in the competitors’ lounge.

Things had turned out more or less the way Mo Yu had guessed.

Because Fraxure had evolved, Gible hadn’t recognized at first that it was the same Axew it had rammed during its runaway adventure.

And now—

After learning the truth, Gible had very politely apologized to Fraxure and even offered it the breakfast snack it had been carrying at the time.

The whole thing left Fraxure feeling utterly bewildered.

It had spent the entire previous night stewing over the incident and couldn’t even sleep properly.

Yet the next day, before it could unleash the speech it had rehearsed, it received the most satisfactory apology possible.

”What a weird shark...”

That became Fraxure’s final assessment of Gible.

Likewise—

Gible felt rather awkward too.

After all, having a Pokémon you once attacked suddenly show up at your doorstep would make anyone uncomfortable.

Fortunately, after evolving, Fraxure had matured considerably.

Once it received the apology it wanted, it didn’t continue pestering Gible.

That made Gible breathe a sigh of relief.

But...

Even though the misunderstanding had finally been cleared up—

They were now standing across from each other on a battlefield.

And they were about to fight.

A new kind of awkwardness emerged between them.

Yet no matter what—

They both wanted to win.

As Dragon-types, competitiveness was etched into their bones.

Having come this far, both Fraxure and Gible had reasons they refused to lose.

Thus, as the referee slowly retreated from the field and prepared to start the match, the two battle-hardened Pokémon cast aside their distractions.

The whistle blew.

Mo Yu was the first to issue a command.

”Dragon Dance!”

As a member of the Haxorus lineage, Dragon Dance was a traditional dance performed by the family under certain circumstances.

Fraxure had practically been dancing it since childhood.

Thanks to its immense familiarity with the move, only moments passed before faint white light began rising with its movements, quickly flowing into its body.

”Ka-ao!”

Gible’s eyes narrowed.

What it hated most were opponents who immediately started boosting themselves at the beginning of a fight.

Back when it lacked ranged attacks, there was nothing it could do but watch helplessly as enemies grew stronger.

But now—

”KA-AO!!!”

Light-blue energy rapidly gathered inside Gible’s mouth.

Dragon Breath!

Besides Outrage, this was the second Dragon-type move Gible had mastered.

It was also its only ranged attack at present.

Mo Yu’s expression changed the moment she noticed the gathering energy.

”Stop!”

The next second—

A pale blue beam shot forward.

Fortunately, under Mo Yu’s command, Fraxure immediately halted Dragon Dance.

Its movements were swift and nimble.

A shift of its footing was enough to dodge the incoming Dragon Breath.

”Dodged it...”

Mo Yu secretly let out a sigh of relief.

Dragon-types naturally countered one another.

Any Dragon-type move could deal devastating damage.

Mo Yu had never seen Gible use Dragon Breath before.

Knowing that Gible had once lacked long-range options, she had chosen to open with Dragon Dance.

She nearly got punished by a devastating attack instead.

It was another reminder.

Not only were you improving.

Everyone else was improving too.

”Let’s settle this in close combat!”

Mo Yu instantly made her decision.

Even if it had evolved prematurely, Fraxure’s overall physical ability still exceeded Gible’s.

If it stuck to its usual close-range style and managed to grab Gible, it could potentially end the match in one burst.

”Speaking of which... it should be about time.”

”Here it comes! Here it comes! Gible is finally using its signature move—Sand Tomb!”

The commentator’s excited voice echoed throughout the stadium.

From the preliminaries until now, roughly eighty percent of Gible’s victories had followed the same formula.

It would use Sand Tomb to whip up a sandstorm, creating a favorable battlefield for itself.

Then it would gradually wear down its opponent’s stamina within the storm before claiming victory with minimal risk.

This was Gible’s most familiar battle style.

As such—

Longtime viewers understood that the moment Gible used Sand Tomb, the real battle had begun.

The rising sand blotted out the sky.

Without hesitation, Mo Yu seized the opening created while Gible was using its move.

”Fraxure, charge in! Dragon Claw!”

At the same time—

Fraxure, already prepared to strike, responded instantly.

Massive dragon claws formed around its arms as it tore straight through the incoming sandstorm.

”Na-ta!”

However—

Before its Dragon Claw could land, the storm suddenly intensified.

Caught off guard, Fraxure was blasted full in the face by the raging sands.

Its mouth filled with grit.

Outside the arena, watching through the giant display screen, Mo Ji frowned.

”The sandstorm really did intensify suddenly...”

Not long ago, during his battle against Gible, he had planned to exploit the opening during Sand Tomb and score a decisive hit with Raticate’s superior speed.

Instead—

Just as he thought he was about to succeed, the sandstorm abruptly strengthened.

It had nearly blown Raticate off its feet.

Of course, that alone wouldn’t have been enough.

Knowing Gible was in his group, Mo Ji had prepared extensively before the match.

He thought he had devised a method to handle Sand Tomb.

But once the battle actually started, he realized things were far more complicated.

For the entire match, Raticate never even touched Gible.

Every attack from Gible was like that of an assassin.

It would emerge unexpectedly, heavily wound Raticate, and then vanish before either trainer or Pokémon could react.

A baffling defeat.

That was how Mo Ji summarized the battle afterward.

”It’s coming!”

Using the drone camera feed, he finally got a clear view of the field.

Seeing the shadow appearing behind Fraxure, he couldn’t help but tense up.

The battle shifted by the second.

After missing its attack, Fraxure turned around—

Only to discover that Gible had already vanished completely into the sandstorm.

The situation had become extremely unfavorable.

”Don’t panic, Fraxure! Focus Energy! Use Focus Energy!”

Mo Yu’s voice came through the storm, calming Fraxure’s restless heart.

The dragon let out a low growl.

Rather than continuing to look around frantically, it steadied itself and carefully observed the movement of sand and the flow of the wind, trying to predict where Gible might appear.

Focus Energy.

Again.

And again.

Ordinarily, Focus Energy was considered a fairly mediocre support move.

Most Pokémon used it to improve their chances of landing critical hits.

But now—

Fraxure completely abandoned that purpose.

Instead, it repeatedly used Focus Energy to sharpen its concentration.

It wanted to detect the slightest opening in Gible’s movements.

Whoosh—

An unnatural gust came from behind.

Fraxure’s crimson eyes whipped around, leaving a red afterimage in the air.

Its gaze was fierce.

As if saying—

Got you!

Dragon Claw!

Dragon-type energy surged into its claws.

Using the momentum of a rapid spin, Fraxure slashed downward.

BOOM!

The attack struck a fist-sized rock.

The concentrated energy instantly shattered it into dust.

Fraxure’s face froze in disbelief.

Its judgment...

Had been wrong.

Then—

A burst of scorching pale-blue energy slammed directly into its face.

”It hits! Gible’s Dragon Breath lands directly on Fraxure!”

”The damage looks enormous! Fraxure has been blasted straight out of the sandstorm!”

”It looks like the momentum has completely shifted in favor of Teacher Gengar and Gible!”

Gasps erupted from the audience.

Especially in the family seating section.

Mo Yu’s classmates wore expressions of despair after seeing Fraxure take a point-blank Dragon Breath.

Meanwhile, Chen Mo sat in the stands, stroking his chin with interest.

Gible’s Sand Tomb had undergone special training under Hippopotas.

Especially after mastering Sandstorm, the Sand Tomb it used now was completely different from before.

Within this sandstorm field—

Gible was the absolute ruler.

And for Fraxure to make errors in judgment while trapped inside it was perfectly normal.

”So what will you do, Mo Yu?”

”How will you break Gible’s Sandstorm Domain?”

Chen Mo watched the short-haired girl curiously.

The Sandstorm Domain had always been Gible’s trump card.

And up to this point, nobody had successfully破解 it.

Of course—

That was largely because Gible had never faced opponents capable of countering weather effects directly.

For example—

Since Sandstorm was ultimately a weather-based move, the simplest solution would be using a move like Rain Dance to overwrite it.

Fraxure was capable of learning Rain Dance.

However, it was obvious that Mo Yu’s Fraxure hadn’t mastered that weather-changing move yet.

Despair.

Mo Yu clenched her teeth as she watched Fraxure slowly climb back to its feet, unwilling to surrender.

Twice.

Twice now.

Fraxure had been struck by Dragon Breath from within the sandstorm.

Before the match, Mo Yu knew victory wouldn’t come easily.

But she never imagined that only moments into the true battle, she and Fraxure would already be pushed into a corner.

Faced with Gible’s terrifying Sandstorm Domain—

She felt a sense of hopelessness.

Impossible.

She couldn’t find any opening to strike back.

”Come on, Big Sister Yu!!!”

Suddenly—

A familiar childish voice rang through the stadium speakers.

The cry instantly cooled her overworked mind.

The commentator quickly exclaimed in surprise:

”It seems Mo Yu’s family has come to support her today!”

”Even in this desperate situation, they’re still cheering with all their might!”

”Mo Yu! Have you heard their encouragement?!”

The giant screen switched to the family section.

A group of teenage students waved glow sticks desperately.

Behind them, a middle-aged man and woman shouted encouragement at the top of their lungs.

The little girl on the woman’s lap had already yelled herself red in the face, yet she refused to stop.

Mo Yu stared blankly at the two adults cheering for her.

Meanwhile, Fraxure caught sight of another figure from the corner of its eye.

The towering silhouette seated in the stands.

”...”

Mo Yu unconsciously clenched her fists tighter.

Looking toward Fraxure, she shouted:

”Can you still fight?”

”...”

Without turning around, Fraxure nodded.

”Then charge back in, Fraxure!”

”NA-TA!”

No further words were needed.

The moment it heard the command, Fraxure rushed back into Gible’s sandstorm.

The decision baffled countless viewers.

Inside a villa, Chen Haoran frowned.

”She finally got out of the sandstorm.”

”Why would Mo Yu send Fraxure back in?”

”That doesn’t seem right.”

”Has she lost her composure?”

”I don’t think so.”

Ah Hui shook his head.

”Eventually Gible will bring the sandstorm to Fraxure anyway.”

”But charging in still makes no sense.”

Chen Haoran analyzed seriously.

”Gible’s stamina is its biggest weakness right now.”

”If you can buy time, why not?”

”Charging in just wastes the opportunity to wear it down.”

”See?”

”Now she’s trapped again.”

On the battlefield—

The endless sandstorm swallowed Fraxure once more.

Within that world where visibility was nearly zero—

The hidden Gible resembled an assassin.

Silent.

Invisible.

Extending a poisoned blade toward the lost dragon.

As though the outcome had already been decided.
