Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

A gentle spring breeze swept across the land, setting the grass swaying in waves—layer upon layer—until the green seemed to turn into a vast sea before their eyes.

”So beautiful…”

Ah Hui sighed from the bottom of his heart.

Witnessing beautiful scenery like this was one of the main reasons he loved camping in the wild.

”Brother Mo, compared to the last time I came here ages ago, the environment’s gotten even better.”

Chen Mo didn’t reply.

After all, he had no idea what this place used to look like.

But just from the lush, vibrant grassland before them, it was obvious how well this place had grown during the long period when no one came here.

Hmm…

With the higher terrain and open view, it really was—just as Ah Hui said—a perfect spot for camping.

”Then let’s set up here.”

Hearing Chen Mo’s words, Ah Hui—who had been barely holding back—immediately got out of the car with Caterpie.

He closed his eyes, fully immersing himself in the breath of nature.

After a long while, Ah Hui opened his eyes and looked at the Pokémon in his arms.

”Caterpie, do you like it here? I really like it.”

”Wu… wa…”

Caterpie let out a soft response, but it didn’t care much about the surroundings. It just kept chewing on the leaf near its mouth.

To it, anywhere was the same—as long as the person beside it was still that same person, that was enough.

Watching Ah Hui get excited the moment they reached the wilds, Chen Mo smiled and shook his head.

”Brother Yi, let’s go take a look too.”

”Mm.”

Brother Yi glanced at Chen Mo, who had already unbuckled his seatbelt and gotten out with Pichu, but for once, he didn’t immediately follow.

He turned his gaze to the back seat, where Natu was still lying there, fast asleep. After a moment of thought, when he stepped out, he deliberately left the rear door slightly ajar instead of closing it fully.

Only then did Brother Yi hoist the camera again and walk slowly toward Chen Mo and Ah Hui.

Water is the source of life.

That saying applied just as well to Pokémon.

The river running through the Viridian Forest was called the Verdant River. After Pokémon arrived in the forest, all kinds of them gradually formed a new ecosystem centered around this river.

And along the riverbanks, it wasn’t uncommon to encounter Pokémon coming to drink.

When Chen Mo and the others reached the river, they immediately spotted five small deer-like Pokémon—resembling young fawns—standing leisurely by the water. Their backs were predominantly pink.

Seeing a new Pokémon again, Ah Hui instantly turned to Chen Mo.

”Brother Mo, what Pokémon is that?”

”Oh, those are Deerling.”

Perhaps sensing the movement behind them, the five Deerling stopped drinking and turned around, looking at Chen Mo and the others with a mix of caution and curiosity.

Chen Mo looked at the adorable Deerling, a smile forming on his lips as he launched into another round of Pokémon trivia.

”Deerling are a special kind of Pokémon that reflect seasonal changes. Depending on the season, the color of their fur changes as well.”

”Spring is pink, summer is green, autumn is yellow, and winter is gray.”

”In ancient times, some humans in the Pokémon world even judged the current season by the color of Deerling’s fur.”

”Also worth noting is that surrounding temperature and humidity can slightly influence their coloration. But the five Deerling we’re seeing now are textbook examples of spring-form Deerling.”

This brief explanation instantly caused the livestream chat to explode.

[So cute—and so interesting!]

[Then here’s the question: why is spring pink and summer green? In my mind, spring should be green!]

[Mo Bao: That’s something you’ll have to ask Deerling. I’m just doing outreach, not Pokémon research.]

The chat was as chaotic as ever, something Chen Mo had long since gotten used to.

However…

Faced with these sudden outsiders, the five Deerling were clearly more scared than curious. After confirming that Chen Mo and the others weren’t making any threatening moves, they cautiously retreated toward the forest edge on the other side of the river.

But they didn’t immediately disappear into the woods. Only after reaching a distance that felt safe—far enough to flee instantly if something went wrong—did they stop and turn back, watching the trio again with curiosity.

Just then—

From within the forest, behind the five Deerling, a tall beast stepped out.

It was also a deer—but its body was mainly dark brown, with orange markings along the sides of its face and belly.

The most eye-catching feature was its antlers: branching like tree limbs and adorned with pink blossoms.

The large deer glanced warily at Chen Mo and the others, then let out a cry toward the five Deerling—one that sounded faintly like a scolding.

Of course, that didn’t mean anyone present understood Pokémon speech.

It was simply because, at that sound, all five Deerling immediately lowered their heads.

Because of this, before Chen Mo could even speak, the livestream audience jumped to conclusions first.

[Ohhh, I know this—definitely their dad! Mo Bao, am I right?]

[Isn’t it more likely that it’s their mom?]

[Dad or mom, man… this scene just reminded me of getting lectured by my parents as a kid.]

[Just lectured? Your childhood must’ve been pretty happy then.]

[Damn, don’t remind me—those memories hurt. Mo Bao, why are you showing us this?!]

”How is this my fault now?”

Chen Mo looked helpless.

”But you’re mostly right. This is their parent—and the evolved form of Deerling: Sawsbuck.”

As Chen Mo explained, just when the viewers thought Sawsbuck would simply lead the Deerling away—

A yellow blur suddenly burst out of the grass.

A small body leapt high into the air, both arms spinning like drills, electricity crackling wildly as it charged straight toward Sawsbuck.

”Pii-chu!”

No one had expected this.

But faced with the sudden attack, Sawsbuck seemed completely prepared. It turned around and kicked back with a hind leg, landing a clean hit squarely in the chest of the yellow figure.

”Pii—!”

With a cry, the yellow body was sent flying more than ten meters, tumbling across the ground several times before finally coming to a stop.

Sawsbuck calmly glanced once at the fallen figure, then turned back again, leading the five Deerling away from the Verdant River and into the depths of the forest.
