Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Even though the stream had just gone live and nothing had been done or shown yet, the livestream’s popularity had already surged straight to first place in the entire Bilibili live section.

This was the powerful impact of official backing.

”Thanks everyone for tuning in. Let me briefly introduce myself for the new viewers,” Chen Mo said. ”My name is Chen Mo. I’m an outdoor science popularization streamer. As for what I’m popularizing—well, the stream title should make that clear.”

He glanced at Pichu on his shoulder and smiled.

”This is my best partner. Its name is Pichu. As you can see, it’s a magical beast—but personally, I prefer to call them Pokémon.”

”Pichu, say hello to everyone first.”

Hearing Chen Mo, Pichu leaned slightly toward the camera, raised its little paw, and obediently let out a soft ”Pichu.”

The sight left many newly arrived viewers staring in disbelief.

A human and a magical beast? Best partners?

Fortunately, there were quite a few veteran viewers in the stream. At this moment, they stepped up to explain to the newcomers how Chen Mo and Pichu had met, as well as Pichu’s heroic rescue during the Anping City incident.

Of course, fully accepting it right away was still difficult, but some viewers gradually came to terms with this special relationship between Chen Mo and Pichu.

Well…

There were also quite a few who didn’t accept it at all and immediately started hurling insults. But Uncle’s support was exceptionally strong—dedicated staff were assigned to work with the stream moderators, continuously tossing those who launched personal attacks straight into the ”black room.”

Honestly, Chen Mo had already seen plenty of this during his previous two educational streams, so he wasn’t particularly bothered anymore.

He had grown accustomed to pushing forward with his ideas amid both understanding and misunderstanding.

Just as the chat was buzzing noisily, a figure suddenly walked into the camera frame and spoke to Chen Mo.

”Brother Mo, I’ve already put my things away. We can set off at any time.”

The instant viewers saw who it was, some of the longtime fans in the livestream exploded.

[Holy crap, am I seeing this right? Isn’t that Brother Hui?!]

[It’s definitely Brother Hui. But why is Brother Hui with Mo-baby?]

[Brother Hui’s had Mo-baby’s address for a while now. Last time in the group chat, he even posted a photo of himself with Mo-baby.]

[Wait, did you catch what Brother Hui just said? It sounds like he’s going to the wild livestream with Mo-baby.]

However, while some viewers were still confused about Ah Hui’s appearance, many more were drawn to the green insect Pokémon on his shoulder.

[Are you guys even talking about the important part? Look at Brother Hui’s shoulder!]

[That looks like… Caterpie, doesn’t it?]

[What’s going on? I haven’t missed a single Mo-baby stream. Why does it suddenly feel like I skipped dozens of episodes?!]

[I remember now—Mo-baby mentioned in the stream preview that this stream’s destination is Viridian Forest. Isn’t that the same place where Brother Hui got beaten up by Butterfree during that camping trip?]

It had to be said—viewers were pretty sharp.

Especially those veteran viewers who had been around since Chen Mo’s very first Pokémon science stream. Without Chen Mo needing to explain much, they pieced together the general story from the clues shown in earlier streams.

”…That’s basically what happened.”

After briefly explaining the background and introducing the two new members joining this stream, Chen Mo sat down in the driver’s seat and continued speaking calmly.

”So for this stream, our primary objective is to return to the flower field Ah Hui visited before and find that group of Butterfree. For the next stretch of the journey, I’ll stop talking and focus on driving. If you find the scenery too boring, feel free to chat with Ah Hui instead.”

Although Chuanshu City—where Viridian Forest was located—was in the same province as Anping City, the distance between them was quite considerable. One was far to the east, the other toward the west. With the long stretches of difficult mountain roads in between, even driving would take at least seven to eight hours to reach the destination.

There was no time to waste. Chen Mo wanted to reach the outskirts of Viridian Forest before nightfall, so he immediately set off with the two people and three Pokémon.

”Pii—!”

A clear cry echoed from the sky.

Bathed in the warm morning sunlight, Pidgeotto flapped steadily beneath the blue sky, following the off-road vehicle racing along the highway, occasionally speeding ahead to scout the road.

Considering Pidgeotto’s stamina, Chen Mo also made frequent stops to let it rest for a while.

After driving like this for about five or six hours, the group successfully entered Chuanshu City’s territory and was getting closer and closer to Viridian Forest.

”Brother Mo, a bit further ahead there’s a long tunnel. After passing through it and driving another kilometer or so, there’s a service station where we can rest for a bit.”

As a seasoned camping enthusiast, Ah Hui demonstrated impressive familiarity with the route. He even reminded Chen Mo of things not marked on the navigation system, having traveled this road several times before.

”Mm. Then I’ll stop there later.”

Just then—

Chen Mo noticed that vehicles coming from the opposite direction were suddenly increasing in number.

At first, he didn’t pay it much attention. But before long, he heard a sharp cry from above.

It was Pidgeotto—and its call was unusual.

”What’s wrong, Pidgeotto?”

Chen Mo pulled over to the side of the road, leaned out of the window, and asked the Pidgeotto in the sky.

”Pii, pii—!”

”What? You’re saying the road ahead is blocked by cars?”

”Pii!”

Understanding what Pidgeotto was conveying, Chen Mo felt puzzled.

Traffic jams weren’t rare in big cities. Even a second- or third-tier city like Anping occasionally experienced them.

But such situations usually happened during holidays or rush hours. Under normal circumstances, traffic jams were rare.

Especially since they were currently in the suburbs.

By all logic, a traffic jam shouldn’t be happening here at all.

”Brother Mo, should we take a different route?”

Ah Hui looked at the cars turning around and asked Chen Mo.

Chen Mo frowned and checked the navigation. If they detoured, it would add at least two or three more hours to the trip.

With all that back-and-forth, by the time they reached Viridian Forest, it would probably be completely dark.

”Let’s not rush to decide. We’ll drive up and see what’s going on first. If it’s only a short delay, we can wait a bit.”
