Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

”You’re hurt?”

Hearing Chen Mo’s words, Pichu froze on the spot. Already bad at hiding things, it had never imagined it would be exposed because of something like this.

Chen Mo activated [Detection Eye] once again.

Sure enough, on Pichu’s status panel, the perfectly healthy condition from the morning had now changed to Minor Injury, with an estimated full recovery time of two days.

As he continued reading downward, the next sight made Chen Mo freeze in place.

In Pichu’s skill list, it originally only had Tail Whip and Thunder Shock. Later, without formal instruction, it had gradually learned the support-type moves Charm and Play Nice. But now—at this very moment—there was suddenly a brand-new skill added to the list.

Quick Attack.

”Pichu, you…”

Chen Mo glanced at the Pidgeotto in the tree, then back at Pichu. He already more or less understood what had happened.

Looking at Pichu hanging its head like a child admitting fault, Chen Mo gently rubbed its little head.

”You really are something…”

To be honest, Chen Mo wasn’t a qualified Trainer.

From the moment he caught Pichu up until now, he had hardly given it any systematic training at all.

One reason was that Pichu was still very young. Even though the boost from the Light Ball had allowed it to skillfully control the electricity in its body, for a baby Pokémon, physical growth still had to take priority.

The second reason was that Chen Mo himself was also a first-time Trainer in real life. In games, you just grinded levels. And the anime never really went into detail about Pokémon training methods either. So when it came to how to properly train Pokémon, Chen Mo could only grope his way forward using his limited knowledge.

Sensing the change in Chen Mo’s mood, Pichu affectionately rubbed against his palm. Then it took a few steps back, gesturing with its tiny paws—pinching its cheeks and body as if trying to stretch itself bigger—before pointing toward the Pidgeotto perched in the tree.

”Pichu! Pichu pichu!”

”…You’re saying that you’re too weak right now, you can’t wait to grow up, and you want to become stronger as soon as possible so you can help me?”

Chen Mo was taken aback.

But Pichu’s intense desire to become stronger wasn’t hard for him to guess.

During the battle with Fearow in Hongjingpo Forest, Pichu had gone down almost without any resistance, even causing Little Pidgey to be seriously injured.

Although Pichu hadn’t shown it afterward, thinking back now, it was likely that this little guy had been holding in that frustration all along.

”Come here. I’ll treat your wounds first.”

Hearing Chen Mo’s words, Pichu obediently came over and sat back down in his arms.

The Potions Chen Mo had exchanged from the system were kept upstairs in the bedroom. But since there were no outsiders here, he didn’t bother going back up. Instead, he directly exchanged a cheap standard Potion from the system store—more than enough for treating Pichu’s scrapes.

Although it wasn’t the first time, every time Chen Mo pulled items out of thin air still amazed Pichu.

It understood that its owner was very different from other humans.

”Don’t move around. I’m applying medicine.”

”Pichu~”

It seemed the storm had finally passed.

The Pidgeotto resting in the tree no longer fussed over grooming its feathers. Looking at Chen Mo and Pichu in the courtyard, its sharp gaze softened noticeably.

At the same time—

A certain Magikarp that had disappeared earlier resurfaced from the pond, watching the human and Pokémon together with Pidgeotto.

”Actually, Pichu, you know…”

As Chen Mo sprayed medicine onto Pichu’s wounds, he spoke softly.

”Just like how Pidgey evolved into Pidgeotto and then naturally learned Wing Attack on its own, once you evolve into Pikachu, there’s a very high chance you’ll naturally learn moves like Quick Attack as well. You really don’t need to be in such a hurry to ask Pidgeotto to teach you.”

”Pichu!”

At Chen Mo’s words, Pichu’s comfortable expression froze. Its face filled with disbelief.

”Pichu?”

”Mm, I’m not lying to you. Just like how you were born already knowing Thunder Shock, it might be due to species traits. Most Pichu naturally and quickly learn Quick Attack after evolving into Pikachu. And if you think about it, you’re not that far from evolving anyway.”

”Pi…”

Pichu looked as if it had been struck by lightning—both physically and emotionally devastated.

Then—

What had all that effort been for?

Thinking back to how it had trained again and again under Pidgeotto’s harsh supervision today, Pichu felt utterly miserable. Tears welled up, and it looked pitiful beyond words.

”Alright, alright. As a reward for all your hard work, I’ve got something to give you.”

”Pichu?”

Pichu instantly stopped crying.

”It’s not food.”

Chen Mo’s forehead twitched.

He slipped his right hand into his pocket and, under Pichu’s expectant gaze, took out a silver-white bell.

”This is called a Soothe Bell. It can help you evolve faster. If you want it, I’ll put it around your neck.”

Although it didn’t fully understand, hearing that it could help it evolve faster—and that it was a gift—Pichu happily cried out and nodded repeatedly.

In fact, when Chen Mo had gone out earlier that day, aside from buying furniture, he’d also gone to find someone to help modify the Soothe Bell into a form suitable for Pichu to wear.

”It might feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but once you evolve, you can take it off.”

The black collar matched Pichu’s black neck fur perfectly, and together with the silver bell, it made Pichu look even cuter.

”Pichu pichu.”

Pichu was extremely excited about its new accessory, constantly tapping the bell lightly with its little paws. The uniquely pleasant sound of the Soothe Bell quickly enchanted it.

Watching this scene, a smile crept onto Chen Mo’s lips.

He gently rubbed Pichu’s head, enjoying this peaceful moment together with Magikarp and Pidgeotto in the courtyard.

Over the next few days—

Chen Mo didn’t travel far or go into the city again.

During the day, he took Pidgeotto and Pichu out for moderate training. Although no new skills were learned, Pichu’s mastery of Quick Attack steadily improved.

At night, he would quietly sit by the pond with his three Pokémon, rewatching his past livestreams while compiling the world’s very first physical Pokémon Encyclopedia.

And so it continued—until one day.

A long-awaited phone call finally came.

”Brother Mo, I’ve thought it through. I still want to take Caterpie back to the place where it was supposed to be born, to see its original parents. So… I probably won’t be able to join you for the next educational livestream.”

”Who says you can’t?”

”Huh… ah?”

”Did I ever tell you where the next stream would be?”

Chen Mo glanced at Pichu on his shoulder and looked up at the clear blue sky.

”I heard that the Viridian Forest has mountains, lakes, and rivers running through it. The environment is perfect for all kinds of Pokémon. I’ve wanted to go take a look for a long time now.”
