Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

”Yi-ge, this Natu looks like it still wants to have another go with you.”

Ah Hui watched as the Natu hopped forward another short distance, clearly understanding the meaning conveyed in its eyes.

”There’s no point anymore.”

Yi-ge replied calmly.

Just now, it was only because he had been reminded of many things from the past that he had lingered a little longer, simply because Natu was a Pokémon.

Now that this ”game” had already been interrupted, there was indeed no need to continue.

Yi-ge’s expression showed no emotional fluctuation at all. Carrying the camera, he continued filming Chen Mo and Ah Hui.

”Then… goodbye, Natu.”

Chen Mo turned around and waved in a friendly manner at the Natu that was still staring at them.

But at that moment—

He suddenly saw Natu move.

It scurried forward a couple of steps, then leaped—

Its entire body spinning midair like a little top.

”Pichu!”

Accompanied by Pichu’s startled cry—

Watching the Natu whirl through the air and rush straight toward Yi-ge, Ah Hui’s mouth fell open. Chen Mo froze as well.

Yi-ge, carrying the camera, instinctively halted.

In the next second—

He heard the sound of something cutting through the air behind him.

Without thinking, Yi-ge sidestepped.

The round, dark shadow flew straight past his left side, then rolled several times along the ground before finally coming to a stop at Chen Mo’s feet.

Dead silence.

The live chat also fell quiet for a moment before comments slowly began to appear again.

[Did I see that wrong…? The camera shook for a second… and then something flew past…]

[You didn’t see it wrong. Something definitely flew past.]

[What just happened? An attack?]

[I only saw Pichu and Ah Hui both with their mouths wide open… so what exactly happened?]

The camera began to move again.

As Yi-ge adjusted the shot, the audience finally saw the ”attacker” from before.

[N–Natu?!]

[It’s definitely it.]

[Wait, what is Natu trying to do? Didn’t Mo-ge say this kind of Pokémon is supposed to be cautious? This is straight-up charging at a person—how is that cautious?]

[Is there a chance—just a chance—that the Natu Mo-ge talked about are tropical grassland Natu, and the ones here have their own unique ideas?]

[...]

Hard to understand.

Even Chen Mo found it difficult to make sense of Natu’s behavior just now.

”Pichu…”

Heeding Pichu’s reminder, Chen Mo quickly crouched down. He picked up Natu and activated [Eye of Detection] to check its condition.

After a moment—

Under the gaze of Yi-ge, Ah Hui, and countless viewers—

Chen Mo let out a helpless smile.

”It seems… it passed out.”

The scene once again fell into silence.

[Unbelievable! I’ve watched Mo-ge’s streams for so long, and this is the first time I’ve seen a Pokémon knock itself out by falling—this is incredible!]

[Just how deep is this Natu’s obsession with Yi-ge…]

[Mo-ge, what now? I feel like leaving Natu by the roadside isn’t a good idea. You said earlier there are all kinds of wild Pokémon around here—if one shows up while Natu’s unconscious, that’d be bad.]

[Honestly, I think this Natu is pretty interesting. Mo-ge, why not take it along?]

The viewers’ comments weren’t without reason. Holding Natu, Chen Mo looked toward Yi-ge.

During the scan with [Eye of Detection], Chen Mo had noticed that all of Natu’s emotional states had vanished due to unconsciousness—except for one lingering emotion: [Unwilling].

”Yi-ge, what do we do?”

”...”

This was probably the first time Chen Mo and Ah Hui had seen even the slightest hint of negative emotion stirring on Yi-ge’s usually impassive face.

After a long pause—

Yi-ge let out a soft sigh.

”Do whatever you want.”

—

With Natu temporarily joining the team, Chen Mo and the others got back into the off-road vehicle and continued toward their destination.

”Mo-ge, how do I use this healing spray?”

”Spray it on the areas with abrasions. Also, use your hand to feel Natu’s body temperature—check if any spots are unusually warm. Some injuries are internal and can’t be seen with the naked eye.”

”Oh, got it. I’ll start now.”

During a previous stream, Chen Mo had used healing spray to treat an injured Pidgey. Ever since then, Ah Hui—who had been very curious about medicine specifically made for Pokémon—volunteered to treat the unconscious Natu.

Since Chen Mo needed to focus on driving, he agreed.

Whether it was Pichu or Caterpie, both were extremely curious about the new Pokémon that had joined the group.

While Ah Hui treated Natu, the two Pokémon lay beside him, surrounding their strange new teammate.

Yi-ge sat in the back seat as usual, expressionless. He held the camera at the center of the back row, showing the audience Natu’s treatment while occasionally glancing at the healing spray in Ah Hui’s hand.

Although he was clearly interested, due to certain instructions from Professor Zhou, he said nothing.

”Alright! All done!”

Ah Hui nodded with satisfaction.

”Mo-ge, what do you think?”

”Mm, looks good.”

”Mo-ge, that was way too perfunctory.”

Ah Hui shook his head.

He glanced at the still-unconscious Natu, then at Yi-ge in the back seat, and smiled.

”Yi-ge, we’ll leave Natu in your care for now.”

”I refuse.”

”…Yi-ge, think about it. Mo-ge already has Pichu, plus Pidgeotto to take care of. As for me, I’m raising a Caterpie that’s never full. When you really think it through, the task of looking after Natu can only fall on you.”

Watching Yi-ge move his lips as if to say something, only to remain silent in the end, Ah Hui hurriedly continued.

”Yi-ge, don’t worry. Maybe once Natu wakes up, it’ll leave on its own. It won’t take up much of your time.”

After Ah Hui’s persistent persuasion, Natu was finally placed beside Yi-ge.

Looking at the still-sleeping Natu pressed close to him, Yi-ge sighed softly again. He then fixed the camera in place and picked Natu up.

”We’re almost there.”

Chen Mo’s voice came from the driver’s seat.

As the vehicle emerged from the foggy forest, the mist dispersed and the view suddenly opened up.

Ahead lay a vast expanse of lush green grass. As far as the eye could see, a river roughly four to five meters wide ran through the southern and northern parts of the Evergreen Forest, its surface shimmering under the warm spring sunlight.
