Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Chen Mo didn’t actually oppose cooperating with the authorities. However, joining them outright and changing his identity from this point onward was still something he couldn’t quite accept—at least not right now.

As for the reasons, there were mainly three.

First, most of Chen Mo’s Pokémon knowledge came from the system-granted ability [Detection Eye]. This ability had a crucial limitation: it could only be activated on living Pokémon that he could see with his own eyes.

That was precisely why, after obtaining the system, Chen Mo had immediately chosen to make use of the original owner’s identity as an outdoor streamer and head into the wild for live educational broadcasts.

Second was the special nature of the system itself. Chen Mo still needed to accumulate Knowledge Points through popularization and education, so that he could exchange them for essential items in the system shop.

If he joined the authorities at this stage, many things would become extremely complicated. If he accidentally exposed this transaction mechanism, Chen Mo was worried he wouldn’t be able to explain it away.

Third—and most importantly—Chen Mo was genuinely satisfied with his current life.

Traveling through the wild, livestreaming educational content, encountering Pokémon one after another… If he joined the authorities, he would most likely lose this level of freedom.

One could say this was a bit of selfishness on Chen Mo’s part.

When Professor Zhou heard Chen Mo’s refusal, his expression was clearly difficult to accept.

After a long silence, Professor Zhou finally asked,

”Why?”

”I’m sure Professor Zhou, you’ve also been wondering where the Pokémon knowledge I talk about during my livestreams actually comes from,” Chen Mo said softly, following the script he had already prepared in his mind.

”Actually, that kind of ancient Pokémon-world ruin I mentioned last time wasn’t the first one I’ve entered.”

As soon as he said this, the man in the white lab coat and Hu Chengliang immediately exchanged glances, instantly understanding the meaning in each other’s eyes.

We guessed right!

Seeing their reactions, Chen Mo didn’t hesitate any longer and began recounting a carefully planned ”past experience.”

This was a story from before the original owner had been ”attacked” by the Rhyhorn.

By sheer accident, Chen Mo had entered a spatial rift and arrived in a secret realm much like before. There, he obtained some knowledge left behind by the native inhabitants of the Pokémon world.

”Through the illustrations in a notebook, I realized that those creatures of all different shapes depicted there were the same ’monsters’ from our world. But because I couldn’t understand the writing, I had no idea what knowledge the notebook actually contained—until later…”

At this point, the expressions of Hu Chengliang and the others grew even more focused.

The turning point was coming.

Chen Mo paused slightly, then said slowly,

”I encountered a legendary Pokémon.”

”A legendary Pokémon!?”

After the previous incident, everyone present had become extremely sensitive to that term. Hu Chengliang couldn’t help but blurt out,

”Like Zekrom?”

”Yes,” Chen Mo nodded.

”But unlike Zekrom, which represents ’Ideals,’ this legendary Pokémon wasn’t skilled in combat. It was called the ’God of Knowledge’ by the humans of the Pokémon world. It’s said that because of its birth, humanity gained the wisdom that made life rich and diverse.”

”And its name was… Uxie.”

Sorry, little mushroom—let me borrow your name for a bit.

At first, Chen Mo had actually planned to use the name of a certain alpaca-like deity to explain all this. But after recalling Zekrom’s overwhelming display in the murals—and then thinking about that alpaca’s true status in the Pokémon world—he quickly abandoned the idea.

It wasn’t cowardice.

It was just that if he brought up Arceus, there would be far too many loose ends to tie up afterward.

In short, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to explain everything cleanly.

Using Uxie—one of the ”Lake Guardians”—was much simpler. After all, as the ”God of Knowledge,” it made perfect sense for Uxie to bestow Pokémon-related knowledge upon a human, didn’t it?

Judging from the expressions on the faces before him, the plan was working quite well.

”So, the legendary Pokémon called Uxie granted you knowledge about Pokémon, and at the same time asked you to encounter all Pokémon in this world?” Professor Zhou asked.

”Yes,” Chen Mo replied, forcing a wry smile.

”Uxie helped me understand the contents of that notebook and even explained some particularly important legendary Pokémon to me. But for more detailed knowledge about Pokémon, I still need to unlock it by encountering different Pokémon myself.”

”I see…”

Professor Zhou fell into thought.

Hu Chengliang also frowned slightly.

”So that’s why you chose to go into dangerous wilderness areas to do educational broadcasts?”

”Yes.”

”I’ve been thinking,” the man in the white lab coat interjected. ”Uxie only asked you to encounter all Pokémon—it didn’t specify the method. If you joined our Monster Research and Countermeasure Bureau, we could just as easily bring Pokémon to you and complete those ’encounters.’”

”But that method wouldn’t be very friendly to the Pokémon, would it?” Chen Mo replied calmly.

The man in the white lab coat was left speechless.

At that moment, Professor Zhou raised his head and looked at Chen Mo again, a gentle smile appearing on his face.

”There’s no need to complicate things so much. Since that legendary Pokémon named Uxie hopes that Comrade Xiao Mo will encounter all Pokémon, it naturally hopes you’ll do so in your own way.”

”But you may have misunderstood one thing. The Monster Research and Countermeasure Bureau doesn’t only have researchers working behind the scenes. For example—this foolish disciple of mine here. Because of personal reasons, he may be heading to the front lines to directly interact with Pokémon in the near future.”

As he spoke, Professor Zhou glanced at Hu Chengliang, whose expression was gradually turning ecstatic.

”Teacher, you finally agreed!?”

”If I didn’t, what could I do? Do you think I don’t understand you, you little brat?” Professor Zhou said helplessly.

”Personally, I’d rather talented youngsters like you—those who might change the world—grow steadily in the rear. But times are different now. I’m old, and sometimes I have too many concerns…”

”Using livestreams to educate the public about Pokémon—thinking about it carefully, that’s not a bad way to help people better understand them. So, Comrade Xiao Mo, I support your decision. In the future, we’ll do our best to help you promote your work…”

”How does that sound to you?”
