Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

During those two days in Ziyuan Town, all sorts of things kept happening, and as a result the livestream kept getting interrupted. The viewers were extremely dissatisfied—leaving complaints on the platform and constantly @-ing Chen Mo in the fan groups to complain about it.

But who was Chen Mo, really?

In situations like this, he was extremely skilled at playing dead.

Don’t ask.

Ask, and the answer was: busy.

Ignoring the barrage of comments, Chen Mo spoke calmly.

”As you can all see, we’ve run into a small accident. Everyone look ahead—can you see that little guy in the fog?”

Yi-ge cooperated perfectly and turned the camera.

The viewers finally saw it.

At the edge of the road stood a strange creature, its exact features obscured by the thick fog, with only a rough outline visible.

[What is that thing? Why is it so round?]

[Watch how it moves. It kind of reminds me of those sparrows you see as a kid, poking around in the grass for food…]

[A sparrow? It doesn’t really look like one to me.]

[Anyway, since Mo-bao deliberately started the stream, he definitely didn’t do it for some ordinary animal. I’m betting this is a Pokémon—and probably a rare one!]

Glancing at the comments, Chen Mo smiled.

”Some viewers already guessed it. This is indeed a relatively uncommon bird Pokémon. Though its rarity isn’t because of low numbers, but because of where it lives.”

After a brief lead-in, Chen Mo turned to the side.

”Ah Hui, you go first. Remember—if that Pokémon turns around and looks at you, don’t move. Don’t make any movements, or you’ll scare it off.”

”Ah—Mo-ge, you’re giving such an important task to me, I feel like—”

”Stop talking. Let’s go.”

”Okay, okay, I get it—but let me put Caterpie down first.”

Ah Hui quickly placed Caterpie back inside the car, next to the bottle filled with leaves.

Without needing any prompting, Caterpie wriggled over to the bottle on its own, happily continuing its breakfast.

Meanwhile—

Following Chen Mo’s reminder, the three of them lowered their footsteps and slowly approached the silhouette in the fog.

Finally—

They saw it clearly.

It really was a very strange-looking bird Pokémon. Most of its body was essentially a single large head, predominantly green, with a yellow beak. Its wings, small in proportion to its body, made one seriously question whether they could support flight at all.

As if it had heard the movement nearby, the little bird Pokémon stopped rummaging through the roadside grass and turned its head to look at them.

”Careful—it’s about to happen.”

Standing at the very front, Ah Hui swallowed hard, staring intently at the bird Pokémon on the ground, his expression clearly tense.

Mo-ge rarely asks me for anything. Today, no matter what, I’m not moving!

Having completely turned himself into a ”wooden man,” Ah Hui’s entire body froze in place. Only his eyes continued tracking the bird Pokémon’s gaze.

Yes.

Tracking.

Perhaps because it was seeing three people—three pairs of eyes—the bird Pokémon’s gaze slowly shifted back and forth among them.

This only made Ah Hui even more nervous.

Then—

Its gaze finally settled.

But the one it chose to lock eyes with wasn’t Ah Hui.

It was Yi-ge, standing slightly behind them, carrying the camera.

At that moment—

One man and one bird locked eyes, neither showing any emotion, like two stone statues—one large, one small—standing frozen in place.

”Mo-ge…”

”It’s fine. Let’s pull back for now.”

Chen Mo smiled and retreated together with Ah Hui, moving behind Yi-ge.

Perhaps because it had entered a complete stalemate with Yi-ge, the bird Pokémon didn’t react to their slight movements. This gave Chen Mo more room to do some on-the-spot explanation.

With a hint of amusement, he spoke softly.

”As you can see, this is a Natu.”

”Natu is a bird Pokémon that lives in tropical grasslands, so it’s not very common around here. Since we were lucky enough to encounter one today, I thought I’d take the chance to give everyone a brief introduction.”

”I won’t go into too much detail about its appearance—you can all see it clearly on stream. Instead, I’ll talk about the most interesting thing about Natu.”

”Vision.”

”Natu has a habit of staring at a single spot for long periods without moving. So once someone makes eye contact with it, Natu will keep staring at that person—just like what’s happening right now.”

Although the viewers couldn’t see Yi-ge’s current condition, looking at Natu’s unwavering gaze, they all collectively became ”Yi-ge” at that moment.

[Is it trying to play a staring contest with me? Fine! Who’s afraid of who! Come on!]

[I’m in too!]

[Natu’s eyes look kind of blank… but also kind of cute.]

[One minute in—nope, I lost. My eyes hurt…]

[Mo-bao, how long is this Natu going to stare at us!?]

The chat spontaneously turned into a game—but quickly collapsed.

Chen Mo smiled and continued.

”After making eye contact, Natu usually won’t leave on its own. However, if the person it’s staring at makes any new body movement, Natu will immediately jump away and flee.”

”Why jump?”

”That’s a good question. Just like many viewers guessed, Natu can’t actually fly. Its wings are still in the developmental stage, so it currently relies on its legs to move.”

”But don’t underestimate it—its jumping ability is incredible. From flat ground, it can easily leap onto tree branches more than two meters high.”

Hearing Chen Mo’s explanation, the viewers found it even more entertaining.

After all, they were only watching from behind a screen.

The one truly locked in a staring contest with Natu was Yi-ge, carrying the camera.

As for Yi-ge—although Chen Mo’s fans didn’t know his exact identity, his filming alone was enough to say a lot. The stability of his shots—especially back at the tunnel entrance, during the small quake caused by Onix—had left a deep impression.

Most people couldn’t even stand steadily then, yet the footage remained remarkably stable.

That alone told the viewers one thing:

Yi-ge was no ordinary person.

This is going to be good!

[Come on, Yi-ge! It’s just a little Natu—we can’t lose to it!]

[Open the betting pool, open the betting pool! I’m betting Natu moves first!]

[Then I’ll bet Yi-ge moves first. After all, the opponent is a Pokémon—how can a human keep up? Even if Yi-ge is strong.]

[One, two, three—don’t move, huh? First thing in the morning and Mo-bao’s already pulling this on us. I can’t—this is killing me!]
