Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

It had to be said—Absol’s appearance was truly stunning. When Brother Yi hoisted the camera onto his shoulder and aimed the lens at the white figure standing atop the tunnel, the entire livestream instantly erupted.

[So handsome! So beautiful!]

[A white Pokémon—how can a Pokémon be this cool? I honestly think this might be the best-looking Pokémon Mo-baby has encountered so far.]

[I can accept ”beautiful,” but calling it the most handsome? I don’t agree. Pidgeotto and Zekrom from that mural—aren’t both way cooler than this one?]

[Stop arguing, stop arguing. Mo-baby, hurry up and give us some science facts about this Pokémon!]

[Genuine question—why is this Pokémon blocking the tunnel and not letting the cars through?]

Chen Mo glanced at the scrolling comments on his phone while observing the white Pokémon above the tunnel, then spoke calmly.

”This Pokémon is called Absol. It’s a Dark-type Pokémon that usually lives deep in mountainous regions that humans rarely reach, moving through the most treacherous terrain. Because of that, it’s relatively rare, and you almost never see one under normal circumstances.”

Hearing this, Ah Hui couldn’t help but ask,

”Then Brother Mo, why would Absol appear here and block everyone’s way?”

Chen Mo glanced to the side.

Some of the bystanders, drawn by Chen Mo’s voice, looked over curiously. But the moment they noticed Pichu on his shoulder and the Caterpie in Ah Hui’s arms, their expressions turned fearful, and they quickly dragged their companions a few steps farther away.

Honestly… that wasn’t so bad.

At least it wasn’t as crowded anymore.

After subtly making space for Brother Yi to get a better filming angle, Chen Mo looked back at Absol, which was still calmly gazing down at the humans below. His expression gradually grew serious.

”Viewers who’ve watched my streams before should know that Pokémon have their own original world. And in that world, Absol has a very well-known title—the ’Disaster Pokémon.’”

With official backing now in place, Chen Mo no longer bothered hiding the fact that he knew about another Pokémon world—though, to be fair, he hadn’t really tried to hide it much before anyway.

The moment he said this, the livestream chat exploded with discussion.

[Disaster Pokémon? Damn, that name sounds insanely cool!]

[Cool, yeah… but why does it feel kind of ominous?]

[Wait, does ”Disaster Pokémon” mean Absol brings disasters wherever it goes?]

[Uh… if that’s the case, isn’t this kind of bad? Didn’t Mo-baby say before that a lot of Dark-type Pokémon aren’t exactly friendly to humans? Could Absol be—]

To prevent the misunderstanding from spiraling further, Chen Mo quickly explained,

”The reason Absol is called the ’Disaster Pokémon’ is because every time it appears before humans, disasters tend to occur nearby. Because of this, ancient humans in the Pokémon world saw it as an omen of misfortune. They forced the title of ’Disaster Pokémon’ onto Absol and drove it deep into the mountains.”

”But!”

Chen Mo deliberately raised his voice slightly, making sure both the livestream audience and the nearby bystanders could hear clearly.

”In reality, Absol has no ability to cause disasters. It’s a Pokémon that’s extremely friendly toward humans. The horn on its head—the scythe-like blade you see—has a special ability that allows Absol to keenly sense changes in the sky and the earth.”

”So it’s not that Absol brings disasters. It’s that Absol senses disasters before they happen. Out of kindness, it tries desperately to warn humans in that area—so it deliberately shows itself to them.”

No sooner had Chen Mo finished speaking than someone in the crowd couldn’t hold back anymore.

”Hey, young man, don’t spout nonsense, alright? Didn’t you see how vicious that ’Absol’ was just now? That guy in the car almost got killed!”

As soon as those words were spoken, many of the people who had witnessed that terrifying scene earlier nodded in agreement.

”Yeah, if he hadn’t braked in time, he’d be dead.”

”A magical beast is still a magical beast. Don’t call it a Pokémon—they don’t deserve that.”

”Young people these days, siding with magical beasts… Have you forgotten how many cases there’ve been of them hurting people?”

”I only believe what I see with my own eyes. Just looking at this thing, you can tell it’s bad news.”

The confidence in their words made many new viewers in the livestream start to waver. Only the longtime fans continued defending Chen Mo without hesitation.

[Please give Mo-baby a bit more trust. Even if you don’t trust him, trust the official endorsement.]

[Exactly. Mo-baby is an officially recognized science communicator.]

[Honestly, I don’t get why some people would rather believe random bystanders than a professional like Mo-baby.]

[I’m suddenly starting to understand why Absol is always misunderstood. But I believe Mo-baby—and I believe Absol.]

Faced with the bystanders’ accusations, Chen Mo didn’t get angry at all. Instead, he smiled and asked,

”Do you really think that if Absol wanted to kill someone, you—or that man in the car—would still be alive right now?”

”So maybe calm down for a moment. Set aside your prejudice against Pokémon and think carefully—could it be that Absol is actually stopping you from entering a tunnel where something dangerous is about to happen?”

The ongoing argument below gradually caught Absol’s attention.

Its gaze shifted slightly as it looked with curiosity at this strange human who kept speaking up on its behalf.

Prejudice against Absol existed everywhere, in every era. As a member of the Absol species, it had long grown accustomed to such treatment.

But today’s situation was a first.

A strange human…

Just then—

Absol’s eyes suddenly sharpened. It could feel it—its scythe-like horn was trembling faintly, transmitting a warning.

At last.

Someone could no longer restrain themselves.

”You keep insisting there’s something wrong with the tunnel, but it’s been so long already! Other than this magical beast blocking our way, where’s the problem?!”

The words had barely fallen—

When Absol, standing atop the tunnel, suddenly let out a roar.

Before anyone could react—

A series of deep, continuous rumbles surged up from beneath the ground in the distance.

The earth began to shake.
