I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

The saturation strike unleashed by Gauss persisted for quite a while.

Having ample Magic Power was a form of combat capital in itself. His goal wasn’t merely to heavily injure the Extraordinary Centaur and incapacitate it; he wanted to blast it to death right then and there! Out of the corner of his eye, Gauss had already spotted a figure hurtling toward them at high speed. The time left for him to kill the Extraordinary Centaur was running out.

He had to race against the clock.

As the Missiles continued to detonate, unleashing wave after wave of earth-shattering shockwaves, Gauss lost count of how many Dragon Roar Missiles had exploded. Finally, a beautiful series of prompts popped up before his eyes.

”Congratulations on killing the Extraordinary Demon, Centaur.”

”Path to the Extraordinary progress: Kill 5 types of Extraordinary Level Demons (5/5).”

”Reward obtained: Randomly draw one Racial Talent from an Extraordinary Demon.”

”Current available species in the Extraordinary Demon encyclopedia: the newborn King of Slime, Green Dragon, Black Dragon, Blue Dragon, Centaur.”

The moment he saw the prompts, Gauss finally relaxed, feeling as though the prize was safely in the bag. He scanned the types of Extraordinary Demons available for the draw. It was safe to say that none of them were weak; they could all be considered top-tier among Extraordinary Demons. Gauss would gladly accept extracting a Racial Talent from any of them.

But... human nature was inherently greedy, especially when one possessed a certain degree of initiative.

In his mind, Gauss connected with the wishing mechanism he had recently acquired—the one granted when his Divine Factor surpassed five percent. The radiance of a wish welled up from the depths of his mind. With just a single thought, it could attach itself to all things tangible or intangible, acting like the power of a fundamental rule.

”Randomly drawing a Racial Talent Ability, currently modifying and adapting it to your Constitution...”

Simultaneously, Gauss invoked the power of his wish.

”I need to draw the best possible Racial Talent,” Gauss muttered in his heart.

A higher-dimensional power erupted within his body. He felt an incredible, indescribable change in his state of being. It was as if everything would go exactly as he desired. If the interface had a luck Attribute, Gauss reckoned it would have instantly skyrocketed by numerous points the moment the Talent draw began. However, that sudden burst of serendipity lasted for only a fleeting second before rapidly fading away.

Fortunately, Gauss could sense that it had already taken effect, much like adding a catalyst to a chemical experiment.

”...”

The drawing process continued. Gauss had long since discovered a pattern: the more powerful the Racial Talent being drawn, the longer the process took.

He shifted a portion of his focus back to reality. The smoke and dust dissipated. The Extraordinary Centaur, which had been galloping at high speed just moments ago, now lay in a crater over ten meters deep. Not a single piece of its flesh remained intact; it had been blasted to pieces by Gauss’s dense torrent of Magic.

This outcome was largely due to its attempt to flee. It had diverted a significant portion of its power into boosting its speed and agility, drastically weakening its defenses compared to standard combat. It wasn’t a foolish move, merely a different strategic choice. It needed the extra speed and agility to escape Gauss’s pursuit and dodge the target-locking Missiles.

It was just that Gauss’s Future Sight was simply too overpowered. As long as there was even a sliver of possibility, he could find and replicate it using this miraculous, time-altering ability.

With a few beats of his wings, Gauss flew away from his spot. He didn’t harbor much greed about salvaging the Centaur’s corpse. Naturally, a large part of that was because the body had been blown to smithereens, severely depreciating its inherent value.

Moreover...

BOOM!

Right after he flew away, another massive silhouette flickered and appeared in the vicinity. It was none other than the vanguard general of the Green Dragon Army, the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat. Its body was enshrouded in a thick, corrosive miasma, and the hundred-meter radius surrounding it was eroded by this toxic power, reducing the area into a dead zone devoid of life.

It hovered above the Centaur, Isetor. An invisible wave of ultrasound spread downward, scanning the mangled remains of the corpse. Its Green Dragon Army colleague was indeed thoroughly dead.

To be honest, before arriving here, the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat had been highly dissatisfied with Isetor. It thought Isetor was a coward—how could it turn and flee the moment it encountered the enemy? After all, Isetor possessed quite a decent level of strength among Extraordinary Demons. In its mind, holding out for ten minutes or so shouldn’t have been a problem at all. That was why it had been so furious without knowing the full situation.

But seeing Isetor’s gruesome, mutilated state, it had to admit that the Centaur had made the right call.

This human named Gauss was indeed formidable—far more so than any of the Demons had initially anticipated. Defeating Isetor and outright killing Isetor, especially in such a short amount of time, were two entirely different concepts. This indicated that the human’s strength held a near-absolute advantage over the Centaur’s.

”Could it be that he is already approaching my level?” it wondered.

The Rot-Winged Dragon Bat turned its head, looking at Gauss, who had retreated into the distance and was now standing in midair beside the Adventurer President. It knew that after the swift execution of Isetor, it was highly unlikely it would get a chance to lay a hand on Gauss.

After all, that Adventurer President was no pushover.

Its sonic waves swept over Gauss, sensing a heavy, oppressive power emanating from his body. This power made even this high-ranking officer of the Green Dragon Army, who considered itself a veteran of the world, freeze in surprise.

It thought, ”Similar! It’s far too similar!”
