I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

However, that merit was ultimately limited. When domains were assigned, it only qualified for the most dangerous region: Black Water Town. Not only did it have to endure frequent human attacks, but its own domain also had very few Demon servants available to command.

Although loyal to His Majesty the Green Dragon, it still harbored its own ambitions. It also wanted to live the good life of those veteran Extraordinary Lords.

”I will make an example out of you!” it snarled, glaring viciously at Gauss. It was as if it wasn’t looking at a tiny human, but at its own future, its domain, and its bloodline! For the sake of its future, this human had to die here today!

While it appeared to be advancing swiftly and recklessly, it was secretly keeping an eye out for powerful enemies that might be lying in ambush in the shadows, all while observing Gauss from the corner of its eye. It did not believe that in such a short amount of time, this human named Gauss could go from being completely defenseless to mastering the power to fight back against it. Therefore, his nonchalant posture atop the bunker’s dome meant he definitely had some hidden backing. Since it was not his own strength, it could only be other human experts.

”No matter, I will just crush them all together!” The centaur, Isetor, felt a surge of heroic pride. The Dragon Descendant power within its body was so formidable that it was confident it would still have room to escape even if it couldn’t defeat the top experts of the human faction. If the timing was right, conveniently eliminating the target before retreating wouldn’t be difficult.

Given its brief previous encounter in Black Water Town, it figured it just needed a bit more focus to complete the mission. Although the opponent had mastered Spatial Magic, there was still a delay when casting it; it only needed to seize that brief window to shoot him dead with the greatbow on its back. Its arrows could easily break ten times the speed of sound, simultaneously churning the surrounding space into chaos. Don’t be fooled into thinking it specialized in melee weapons just because it always held a spear. In reality, its Archery was far more exquisite than its spearmanship, and its Domain was closely tied to Archery.

During this brief moment of swirling thoughts, the mountain where Gauss stood gradually became clearer in the centaur Isetor’s eyes. It could see several bunkers of varying sizes and numerous watchtowers on the mountainside, as well as human defenders slaughtering the other Demon Legions. But it had no interest in any of that. In its eyes and heart, there was only Gauss. Everything was occupied by that pure white figure. Yet, for some reason, as the distance closed slightly, a faint sense of foreboding surfaced in its mind. It was an indescribable irritability. Its originally surging blood no longer seemed to flow as smoothly, and the heart rate of its strong, powerful heart began to turn irregular.

”Why?” it wondered. It halted its hooves about two miles away from Gauss, gripping its spear tightly. Its torch-like eyes quickly and warily scanned the surroundings. Out of habitual thinking, it didn’t believe this perilous sense of urgency was created by its target, Gauss; instead, it felt that a human expert must be hiding in the shadows nearby, premeditating an attack on it.

”Come out! You skulking insect!

”My Detection has already found you!

”Come out and fight me!”

The centaur Isetor roared out, its voice carrying an extremely long distance. As it bellowed, it swung a slash forward. A half-moon-shaped current of air flew from the spear tip, and a small mound in the distance instantly had its peak sheared off with a resounding boom.

However, its ”invitation” received no response whatsoever.

In the distance, Gauss had just floated up from the dome, but he looked toward the centaur’s direction with eyes full of confusion. Bowing his head slightly, he asked the communication device hanging around his neck, ”Did you guys send someone over as backup?”

”No! Not at all...” replied President Matthias Monroe, the bearded man, who was currently in the heat of battle. ”Didn’t you say... you didn’t need... backup?”

”Never mind, it was my misunderstanding. You guys keep busy; everything is normal on my end.” Gauss cut off the communication. Even as the person involved, he had been fooled by the centaur’s confident posture. He thought the bearded President had worried about his safety and dispatched reinforcements anyway, despite his previous refusal.

Receiving no reply, the centaur Isetor merely snorted coldly. Believing it had seen through everything, its face was filled with disdain. However, its goal had been achieved, and it secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Not even having the confidence to fight it openly and honorably proved that the human expert lurking in the shadows wasn’t actually that terrifying. At the very least, they couldn’t crush it outright; otherwise, there would be no need to hide and waste so much time here.

It turned its gaze back to the dome where Gauss was located.

”Where did he go?” it wondered in confusion. Gauss, who had previously been standing calmly on top of the building, was nowhere to be seen. Had he cast that Spatial Magic again? The centaur Isetor had a very deep impression of Gauss’s Spatial Magic. It had only been distracted for a fleeting moment, yet it completely lost track of Gauss. In this regard, the opponent’s mastery of Spatial Magic was indeed quite remarkable. It would have to concentrate during the upcoming battle. It certainly didn’t want a repeat of last time, where it let this felonious human escape due to its own carelessness.

It began its charge once more! Web-like cracks spread across the ground beneath its hooves. As long as it started charging, it would become powerful; the enemy wouldn’t be able to track its movements, and it could retreat from the battlefield at any time. As it charged, its eyes also rapidly searched for Gauss’s figure. The teleportation distance of Spatial Magic was limited, so it just needed to observe carefully to catch a trace of the enemy.

Wait... that wasn’t right!

Suddenly, it jerked its head up as the roaring cries of warning from the flying dragons echoed through the clouds. Under its shocked gaze, a streamlined figure was hurtling through the bleak, smog-filled sky above at extreme speed. His speed was so immense that even the Two-legged Flying Dragons, renowned for their aerial speed, could only trail behind him. The centaur Isetor had exceptional kinetic vision; although the speed of the figure in its line of sight could no longer be caught by the naked eye of ordinary creatures, it still managed to see the target’s face clearly.

It was... Gauss!!!

Its human target had absolutely no intention of using Spatial Magic to escape. On the contrary, he was flying toward its direction at a terrifyingly high speed. Was he crazy? At first, it felt a bit pleased. Gauss’s suicidal charge meant it wouldn’t have to rack its brains trying to find and chase down the opponent’s tracks. But soon, it realized something was terribly wrong. The opponent’s speed seemed a bit too... too fast! Furthermore, as the distance closed, the nearly tangible dragon might radiating from his body finally revealed its ferocious visage right before its eyes.

Gauss’s high-speed, blurry figure seemed to gradually distort in Isetor’s vision, ultimately transforming into a majestic True Dragon flapping its wings and soaring through the sky. Even the sound of him breaking the sound barrier sounded just like a Giant Dragon letting out a majestic roar. Isetor slowly decelerated its charge. It looked down at the ground, only to see that its four hooved legs were beginning to tremble slightly.

Dragon... dragon might!!

It couldn’t help but gulp. In truth, it couldn’t be more familiar with this imposing aura. Not only had it closely admired the majesty of His Majesty the Green Dragon, but the bestowed Dragon Descendant bloodline also flowed within its body. Although not as powerful as His Majesty, the noble bloodline of a Dragon Descendant still allowed it to exude a pseudo-dragon might. Its favorite everyday pastime was to use this noble pseudo-dragon might to intimidate other monsters, reveling in the fearful and worshipful gazes they cast its way. But at this very moment, it finally and personally experienced a profound sense of insignificance. In the face of that dragon might in the sky, its fragile pseudo-dragon might felt like nothing but a joke.

It felt the teal halo on the surface of its body rapidly shrink. Its aura was entirely suppressed and began to exhibit signs of withering. Strictly speaking, this had nothing to do with the gap in strength between the two; it was an absolute, overwhelming crush originating from the bloodline level. It was just like an antelope on the savanna fleeing in panic even upon bumping into a young, immature lion cub. The bloodline gap between it and Gauss was simply too massive, like the difference between heaven and earth. If Gauss, possessing the [Dragon King Descendant] bloodline, was a true dragon among true dragons, then the centaur Isetor couldn’t even be considered a pseudo-dragon. At this moment, the Dragon Descendant power that Isetor was so proud of had turned into a lethal poison. Not only did it fail to let it burst forth with greater combat power in front of Gauss, but it also constantly held it back.
