I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 278: Chapter 209:

The Jackal-Wolf People had no intention of negotiating. The heavy rain concealed everything; just as Gauss couldn’t sense its strength, it also couldn’t judge the strength level of the three people.

In the blink of an eye, as Gauss quickly thought, it suddenly raised its curved sword and let out a howl symbolizing a charge horn!

”Awoo!!!”

Under the intimidation of the Jackal-Wolf People, the goblins dared not disobey orders. Amid a series of unintelligible screams, they charged chaotically at Gauss and his companions through the slippery mud.

On the contrary, Gauss chose not to move.

First, he instructed Aaliyah to use animal communication magic to command the two chocobos to retreat to the rear, avoiding being swept into the battle.

Then he looked at the advancing goblins.

These goblins were just a bunch of cannon fodder driven forward, while the Jackal-Wolf behind them had not moved toward the three but instead silently withdrew a certain distance.

Is it trying to use these cannon fodder goblins to test our strength?

And if things don’t look good, it will decisively bolt?

Gauss quickly thought.

Is it no wonder the Jackal-Wolf People are recorded as cunning demon creatures in books?

Creatures without the spirit of battle!

But how could Gauss let it have its way?

”Aaliyah, Serdur, I’ll leave these goblins to you.”

”No worries.”

After a brief exchange, Gauss activated [Enhanced Jump].

”Da!!”

The steel-cold boots shattered the muddy ground, and the explosive power from Enhanced Jump ripped his figure through the rain curtain in an instant.

The bean-sized raindrops smashed against him, immediately shattered by his powerful momentum, transforming into a mist of water.

A black lightning bolt swiftly flickered in the pouring rain.

Before the goblins could react, he completely penetrated their formation, killing several goblins in passing.

Gauss flicked the blood off his hand and continued to charge at the Jackal-Wolf People.

From afar, the Jackal-Wolf People watched Gauss, its cruel yellow-brown eyes became more cautious, clearly sensing his strength from Gauss’s amazing burst of speed and power.

But now, trying to escape was too late.

”Aw!!”

The Jackal-Wolf People let out a roar of anger and fear.

Forced to abandon its retreat, the giant curved knife flew out of its hand, cutting through the air with a sharp whistling sound, spinning towards Gauss, who had yet to find his footing!

This strike was powerful and heavy; the blade kept spinning while the angle and direction remained precise, perfectly timing Gauss’s moment of suspension.

However, the Jackal-Wolf People’s plan fell short.

Gauss’s reaction was much faster than it anticipated.

Just as the flying curved knife was about to reach him, he displayed his recently gained extraordinary coordination and reaction ability after advancing to level 3 with increased agility.

His body twisted in mid-air in an almost impossible manner, followed by a sideways sliding tackle.

”Swoosh!!!”

The curved knife shattered the raindrops.

The cold blade of the curved knife grazed past Gauss’s chest, and the accompanying strong wind severed a few strands of wet hair.

Gauss deftly dodged the blade’s thrown attack.

The recent scene appeared thrilling, but in reality, it was not. After his profession level was raised to level 3, he felt a significant improvement in his bodily control and judgment.

So that nearly missed attack was quite far off in his perception.

It was only to avoid reducing his movement speed that he made such a minimal evasive action.

As the slide tackle ended, Gauss slapped his palm on the muddy ground, using it to regain his stance.

The distant Jackal-Wolf People had already turned to flee without any sense of dignity.

However, it severely underestimated Gauss’s reaction speed to the curved-knife attack.

It had not run far yet, still within Gauss’s attack range.

The White Magic Wand in Gauss’s hand pulsated with magical energy.

Several Magic Missiles shot out!

”Boom!!”

The azure magical spheres were even more brilliant in the rain curtain.

Under his deliberate control, the missiles struck the fast-moving knees of the Jackal-Wolf People.

”Bang!!”

There wasn’t any decent protection for its knee joints, and the explosion of several missiles directly shattered the knees.

Without the support of its lower legs, its upper body continued to surge forward due to inertia, falling into the mud.

This is why running away recklessly is not wise.

Turning your back to the enemy means not seeing the attack, which sometimes just leads to an even quicker, more bewildering death.

Of course, the Jackal-Wolf People hasn’t died yet.

As expected, it wasn’t strong.

In Gauss’s evaluation, it probably wasn’t even level 2.

It looked fierce but shattered at the first touch.

Nevertheless, Gauss didn’t mind.

A level 1 Jackal-Wolf People and a level 5 Jackal-Wolf People add only one elite entry to the Monster Atlas, essentially making no difference.

In fact, the former is easier to kill.

Gauss stood at a distance, not approaching.

Despite having its lower legs blasted away, the Jackal-Wolf People’s strong life force allowed it to prop itself up after a brief moment of pain, sitting on the ground, holding a machete retrieved from its waist, staring at Gauss in terror.

Mumbling something unintelligible.

Gauss couldn’t understand its language.

Perhaps Aaliyah could understand it from afar.

But his earlier restraint wasn’t due to mercy or any intention to torment it.

It was purely to maximize his gains from the Jackal-Wolf People.

The White Magic Wand in his hand released a wave of Clay Magic.

Several blobs of clay instantly took form on the ground, transforming into various large spiders.

”Indeed, heavy rain is truly a significant negative effect on Clay Magic.”
