You Xi could not move a single muscle. He was crumbling into utter despair inside. What evil had he done to have such an uncle, who just appears and disappears without a trace, who tortures him if he said one word that was out of place?

You Xi sat limply on the ground. He was wondering if he should get up. Even if he got up, it was highly likely that he would be beaten so badly that he would be on all fours again. It was a waste of energy to stand up.

He looked at You Yi. His uncle’s frosty, impassive gaze pierced straight into You Xi, sending another shiver throughout his limbs. He did not try to argue and pushed himself up from the ground. He ducked his head and stood in front of You Yi, his posture deferent and still. He did not dare to make a single move. “Uncle… I–I…will stand…” he stuttered.

He would feel a little more relaxed if he stood up. Sitting down… Hmph… He would be sitting so close that it would be easy to get kicked.

You Yi glanced over him. “Speak.”

You Xi scratched his head. “Uncle, I…I really didn’t say anything. I swear that I truly did not say anything…”

His conversation with his mother was completely normal; he did not reveal anything special.

He did not get to finish his sentence when he saw You Yi move. He was so terrified that he immediately dropped onto his knees. Thump! “Uncle, don’t beat me. Uncle, I’ll talk. I’ll talk… I called my mother just now. She went to Rong City. My grandmother is sick now. She’s being hospitalized and had just gone through surgery. She isn’t doing too well, so my mother can’t come back anytime soon. She asked what relationship I have with Yan Qingsi, and if anything had happened between us. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t mention you, Uncle. I just told my mother that I liked pretty female celebrities, and when I saw that Yan Qingsi was pretty, I wanted to court her. But she has a boyfriend, and there were people supporting them, so I couldn’t court her and gave up. I just told her all that. It’s true. I swear upon my head that I only talked about all this. I really didn’t talk about anything else.”

You Yi spewed out this entire chunk of speech in a single breath. He did not hide a single detail nor a single word. He was extremely honest.

You Yi slowly crossed his left leg over his right, but he did not stand up. “What else?” he asked.

You Xi loosened a breath at the sight. Goddammit. He really scared him to death. He thought that You Yi wanted to beat him up again, and the idea was absolutely terrifying. His body reacted faster than his mouth, so honest and open. See? You Yi had caused him great trauma. Who would believe him even if he told everyone about this, that a grown man had been pushed until he was like this?

You Xi shook his head so vigorously that he looked like a rattle-drum. “Nothing. There’s really nothing else. I solemnly swear that I only know all this.”

“Why did your mother ask you to go there?” You Yi asked, tone placid.

“This…I don’t know either. I asked but she didn’t answer. She just said that my grandmother was sick and I should go see her no matter what. Isn’t–isn’t this pretty normal?” You Xi could not think of a reason why there was something wrong with this.

You Xi slowly stood up. He had not straightened his legs when he heard You Yi harrumphed. It shocked him so much that his knees turned into jelly and he fell into a crouch with another thump. “There–there…is really nothing else, Uncle,” he said, his tone agonized. “I wouldn’t dare to lie to you even if I had all the courage in the world, Uncle. You know that I don’t have the guts for it. I don’t even dare to think about Yan Qingsi now. I told my mother that just now because I don’t want to let her know that you and…”

You Xi met You Yi’s cold stare before he finished his sentence. “And…Yan Qingsi know…know each other…” he sputtered, swallowing whatever that he had wanted to say.

You Yi glared straight into You Xi’s eyes. “How did your mother know that you and Yan Qingsi know each other?” he asked.

“This…I – I…” You Xi clawed at his head in a panic. Right. How did his mother know that he and Yan Qingsi knew each other?”
