Chapter 252: Chapter 251: Interaction Ritual

This is where he found the opportunity to catch the red-robed man. He was worried before, fearing that the space here was sealed, preventing him from coming.

Now it was solved, he came directly here.

Was it deliberate by the red-robed man?

Or accidental?

Zhou An said, somewhat puzzled: ”Good luck? Is there something special about this place? Apart from that room full of dead people.”

”That’s the place.”

Su Changxing nodded and said: ”You all stay outside and make some preparations and get ready for battle, we might encounter the Hunter... Zhu Wenwu, you come with me.”

Zhu Wenwu’s eyes widened, realizing what Su Changxing intended: ”Hmm, just the two of us?”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said: ”Just the two of us, you bring that Hunter’s corpse we brought.”

He walked to the door, paused for a moment, then opened it. A wave of stale and decayed stench hit him.

”This...”

Following behind, dragging the corpse, Zhu Wenwu also sensed the stench, seeing the scene filled with an eerie atmosphere:

”This looks like a painting, a deliberately arranged setup. If not for this smell, I would think it’s some kind of artistic sculpture.”

Su Changxing turned back to him confused and said: ”Hmm? There is such art sculpture?”

Zhu Wenwu matter-of-factly said: ”Of course, there is. I saw it before at a niche exhibition; it was full of such things.”

Su Changxing seemed unconvinced and said: ”You would go to see such things?”

Zhu Wenwu laughed and said: ”Not me, Zhu Xin Xue wanted to see it, so I accompanied her. She really likes this kind of horror stuff, I don’t know how her brain works... even though we grew up under the same environment.”

Su Changxing understood and said: ”Everyone is different, unique in their own way.”

Walking in, a dim light shone at the center of the round platform, where countless tiny particles of light gathered in the darkness.

The origin of this light was unknown; the room had no light source.

The mummified corpse nailed to the crucifix was small, penetrated by four black steel nails, the same kind of nails as the ones in the red-robed man’s body, though the length might differ.

Zhu Wenwu, sensing nervous tension, observed the surroundings with an illusion that these people could come back to life at any time, then noticed many words engraved on the wooden plaque hanging before the platform:

”There must be sacrifice to walk toward the light, break the dawn, embrace the future... Order equals weakness, Power signals breaking boundaries... Death by Shadow, Death by Corruption, Death by Wither, Death by Regret...”

”A eulogy? It seems to be scraped out by fingernails.”

Zhu Wenwu turned to Su Changxing and said: ”What should we do now?”

Su Changxing stood on the platform, looked around, and said:

”Prepare for battle, the red-robed man should appear later. Try to mark him; our goal is to kill him.”

Zhu Wenwu nodded, then looked at the mummified corpse on the crucifix and said:

”This person seemed to be a young girl when alive. These Hunters are really ruthless... no matter how advanced a civilization is, when it crumbles, humanity inevitably falls into savage and bloody darkness.”

Su Changxing already guessed who the person nailed to the crucifix was, the girl in the memory merge. Because of her superpower, her body was weak and required long-term medication, he said:

”No, this should not be some symbolic barbaric ritual, but a ceremony with a specific purpose related to the Extraordinary; these Hunters wield the power of ritual.”

”The power of ritual?”

Zhu Wenwu understood this as a method of the Extraordinary but couldn’t understand why Su Changxing seemed to know so much, as they all came from the same world and were mere ordinary people just days ago:

”Does it connect with any sacrifices in our world? Hmm, Jesus was also nailed to a cross, though that’s just legend.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment, then said: ”There could be a connection. Now, it seems, in the past, our real world had quite a few Extraordinaries, which later faded away.”

He used a Steel Saber to stab the Hunter’s corpse into the platform, soaking the wood already stained with blood. Immediately, some white scratches spread and trembled across the wooden platform.

The head led a simple interaction ritual, a trap set for the red-robed man, a cage of space.

He looked at the mummified corpse.

[Within lies a spirituality that should have dissipated; under prolonged suppression, it should have become mad and twisted, yet it hasn’t. It’s still just a mummified corpse. You should feel relieved about this.]

With the convergence of various information, ”True Knowledge” finally offered some useful insights.

Spirituality?

It might be something like a soul.

Su Changxing subsequently asked: ”What is spirituality? Each person’s soul?”

The head seemed surprised and said:

”You noticed too? Spirituality essentially is each person’s uniqueness. It’s not that having all someone else’s memories make you them; your spiritualities are different and yield different outcomes.”

”Yet, spirituality should not equate to a soul, only counting as a part of it, roughly a quarter, but it’s the core, the proof of being alive.”

Su Changxing raised a brow and said: ”But this person’s spirituality hasn’t dissipated yet they’re dead, does that mean they’re really dead?”

The head affirmed: ”Definitely not, with this spirituality, there’s a possibility of resurrection. Hmm, I could have revived her if I were not just a head.”

Su Changxing thought carefully, then sincerely said: ”You seem to be bluffing.”

The head immediately reacted passionately:

”The great True Knower is omnipotent, and this can’t be considered true resurrection. After all, her spirituality still exists; it should be rebirth, yes, rebirth.”

Zhu Wenwu looked at the scratches on the platform, and then at Su Changxing, who was lost in thought, shivered and said:

”So, Brother Su, you also master this power of ritual?”

Su Changxing snapped out of it and said: ”Not really, just a superficial grasp. Next, just pull out these steel nails and see if we can lure the red-robed man over.”

He tried, finding the steel nails very tight, requiring significant effort, so he took a short sword, cut diagonally from below, and extracted the shortest one, which hadn’t fully penetrated the body.

The moment the steel nail was pulled out, the spirituality within the mummified corpse suddenly intensified, making its presence more vivid, as if it were a living person nailed to the cross, not a desiccated corpse dead for years.

Some dark mist seeped from the mummified body, swirling around, despite its decay, giving a sense of purity in this decrepit environment.

Simultaneously.

The scratches on the platform became slender, and Su Changxing could distinctly hear a scattered, distant, ancient chant beside his ear.
