A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Unless We Live Together (7)

Seraphina Sterling’s soft voice, laced with faint mockery, echoed through the conference room. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. To challenge the director on her very first day—this Seraphina Sterling was truly bold! In any other club, it wouldn’t be a big deal. If you offended the director, you could just quit without worrying about any future repercussions.

But this was the stock trading club, where all the executives were from wealthy, powerful families. Seraphina Sterling had no background to speak of, only a loose connection to Nadia Chapman. How could she dare to go up against Preston Patterson? Wasn’t she afraid that after graduation, he would create obstacles for her, preventing her from even finding a job? It might not even take that long. Preston Patterson was the young heir to Patterson Properties, and what was the most profitable business these days? Real estate, of course!

Preston Patterson was already a senior, and Seraphina Sterling was just a freshman. They were both in the School of Economics and Management. At this university, it would be incredibly easy for Preston to get revenge on someone—all it would take was the flick of a finger. Was Seraphina Sterling really not afraid? Not worried at all?

”Ashamed?” Preston Patterson retorted. ”Why should I be ashamed? I’m just calling it as I see it. Our club’s rules are well known: first, we look at financial backing, and second, we look at ability! You have no financial backing and got in solely on a letter of recommendation. If you don’t even have any ability, to the point where your tasks as a member need to be pre-arranged for you, then what use are you to us? The stock trading club doesn’t need dead weight!”

Dead weight? Weren’t those words a bit too harsh? She was just a girl, a freshman at that! Everyone expected Seraphina Sterling to fly into a rage and for all-out war to erupt, but instead, she remained surprisingly composed, as if she wasn’t the one Preston Patterson was insulting.

Seraphina Sterling simply offered a faint smile, her brilliant eyes glittering like stars in the dark of night. Her soft voice spoke again. ”Going by what you’ve said, how then can I prove I have the ability to join the stock trading club? How do you assess whether someone is capable of being a member and competent enough to handle the recorder position?”

”If you’re just here to be a recorder, then forget it! I don’t think that position is necessary at all! We can just buy a video camera and record all of our activities. Wouldn’t that be a more meaningful record than written notes? If you only want to be a recorder, you can leave right now!” Preston Patterson was pulling the rug out from under her, severing her only chance to remain in the club!

’Just as expected of someone from the Patterson Family. What a piece of work. He must really have it in for Nadia Chapman. The moment he found out I was connected to her, he decided to show no mercy! But the more he acts like this, the more I want to stay!’

”And what if I insist on staying? What if I want to stay even without the recorder position?” Seraphina Sterling met Preston Patterson’s gaze, completely unafraid of his intimidating presence.

’So determined?’ Preston Patterson laughed. ’It’s been a while since I’ve met someone so stubborn!’ ”Fine. Let’s compete. One hundred thousand yuan each. Starting tomorrow, we invest it in the stock market. We’ll have two weeks. The winner will be the one with the higher profit. How about it?”

Oh my god! He was playing for keeps right from the start! Seraphina Sterling is just a freshman, for crying out loud! Director Patterson is already a senior; he’s learned everything he needs to know, but Seraphina has probably barely scratched the surface. Isn’t Preston Patterson taking way too big of an advantage in this competition? Besides, one hundred thousand yuan... that’s got to be a huge amount of money for her, right? Does she even have that kind of capital to compete with him?

”Interesting.” Seraphina’s own hands started to itch. ’I originally just came here to scout for promising talent to recruit for my company later,’ she thought. ’I didn’t plan on getting my own hands dirty. But after what Preston Patterson just said, I guess I have no choice!’
