A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 410: Chapter 410: A Resounding Slap to the Face (6)

Seraphina Sterling looked at her in surprise. ’Does Shelby Fenton really think I’ve been waiting here this whole time?’

”Do you know who interviewed me? The vice president of the Stock Trading Club—Shane Rainier! I suggest you just leave. This place is for rich people, not for a country bumpkin like you! Once I’m a member, I can put up a million in capital to trade stocks. Can you do that? I bet you’ve never even seen that much money in your entire life. And look at all these people. It’ll take forever to get through this line! I’m about to go complete my membership registration, so you can just wait here!”

Shelby Fenton, teetering on her high heels, shot Seraphina Sterling a glance, her expression haughty and impossibly arrogant.

”Hold on, I think you might have misunderstood something,” Seraphina Sterling said, waving the form in her hand. ”I’ve already finished my membership registration. You can take your time, right? The sun is so strong, I won’t wait for you! You should hurry up, though. It would be a shame if you got a tan or a sunburn. Even though the Fenton Family has plenty of money, there are some things money just can’t buy.”

Seraphina Sterling’s warm smile was radiant, her two faint dimples utterly charming. She had just returned every last bit of Shelby Fenton’s mockery right back to her.

Shelby Fenton stood frozen in place, utterly shocked. ’What’s going on? She already finished her interview? And completed her registration? How is that possible? I was the one who pulled strings with my status to get an early interview! Seraphina Sterling is nothing but a country bumpkin, so how could she get an interview ahead of time? How could she possibly be accepted? And how could she finish her registration before me?’

With such a dramatic scene unfolding before them, the crowd had already started whispering amongst themselves.

”So what if she’s some rich heiress? Seraphina Sterling still put her in her place.”

”Exactly! Look at how arrogant she was just now. She was looking down her nose at everyone.”

”I’ve seen show-offs before, but never one this shameless. It’s like she’d die if she didn’t flaunt her wealth! See? That’s what happens when you show off! It just goes to show, you should be humble!”

...

”Maybe you don’t have to be from a rich family to join the Stock Trading Club after all. Look at Seraphina Sterling. She just tested in from a small town with no connections or background, and she still got in! So maybe we have a chance too!”

Seraphina Sterling had only taken a few steps before she stopped, turned back with a faint smile, and said, ”Oh, right. I forgot to tell you. The one who interviewed me was the president—Hugo Xavier.”

GASP—

What is a ’face-slap’? This was a textbook example, and a loud, resounding one at that! Just a moment ago, she was smugly bragging about being interviewed by the vice president, Shane Rainier, but it turns out Seraphina Sterling was interviewed by the president himself! A whole level above her! This was beyond humiliating! Shelby Fenton had never been so utterly disgraced in her entire life, especially not in front of a crowd!

There was already a massive crowd in front of the Stock Trading Club, with long, winding lines of students from this department and others. A moment ago, she had intended to teach Seraphina Sterling a lesson, to make her understand her place and stop being so disrespectful. But she never imagined that all her bragging, mockery, and contempt would end up being thrown back in her own face, tenfold.

She had failed to teach Seraphina Sterling a lesson and had only made a fool of herself. She had turned herself into a laughingstock! There she was, acting so smug, when in reality, she was just being utterly ridiculous.

Shelby Fenton completed her registration as quickly as she could and then fled the scene. She couldn’t stomach staying there any longer, not under the scornful gaze of the crowd. Her pride couldn’t withstand such looks.
