Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Advancement Challenge_1

”ROAR!” A massive roar echoed from behind Wen Yu, his heart pounded. Simba was getting closer and closer. At this point, Wen Yu could already see the outline of the Exchange Stone Pillar.

”AAARGH!” Under immense pressure, Wen Yu couldn’t help but roar back. His legs pumped like the wind as he quickly overtook the increasingly sluggish Cyclops.

Ignoring his temporary ally’s state, Wen Yu breathed a sigh of relief. Given the current situation, I might be able to make a run for it instead of advancing here.

Escaping Simba’s pursuit by using the promotion trial was the absolute worst option.

However, things went awry. A violent gust of wind surged from behind Wen Yu. Simba, in the distance, leaped forward, targeting not the closer Cyclops but Wen Yu, who was getting further away!

Simba would not let any creature that invaded his Territory get away.

Hearing a fierce wind from behind and the strong, bloody stench that followed, Wen Yu lunged forward in a life-or-death crisis, barely dodging Simba’s pounce. He then supported himself with his hands on the ground, executed a quick forward roll, and then, with a sudden burst of leg strength, raced towards the Exchange Stone Pillar not far away.

Wen Yu was only about a dozen or so meters from the Exchange Stone Pillar. Aided by his terrifying physical fitness, the distance evaporated in an instant. Simba, still ignoring the already immobile Cyclops, lunged at Wen Yu once more. f r\eew,eb novel.c(o)(m)

”Promote, promote, hurry up!” As Simba got closer, Wen Yu couldn’t help but roar loudly at the Stone Platform.

Fortunately, the Stone Platform created by the Dominator responded extremely quickly. Once Wen Yu shouted the word ”promote,” it directly deducted 1,000 points from him and made him disappear.

Like a small mountain falling from the sky, sharp claws tore fiercely across the Exchange Stone Pillar. As Wen Yu’s figure disappeared near the Stone Platform, Simba’s claws made direct contact with the Stone Pillar.

”ROAR...” Accompanied by Simba’s painful howl, the Exchange Stone Pillar remained standing, unchanged. In contrast, Simba’s right forelimb trembled intensely; the tremendous force directed at the pillar had clearly injured it.

Simba was enraged. He had never been injured since he was a cub, never felt such intense pain. The crux of the matter was that this injury was caused by his own misstep. How could the king of beasts preserve his dignity after this?

Simba roared angrily, watching the Human disappear. Then, he turned his head to look at the Cyclops, who stood frozen and trembling.

A killing intent surged in his eyes.

”PHEW. I’m saved,” Wen Yu muttered, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.

The thrill of a narrow escape from death made his whole body tremble. Under Simba’s immense pressure, Wen Yu had almost unleashed all his potential. Even after entering the Challenge Space, his hands and feet still felt weak.

What do I do now? After I leave, will Simba still be blocking the exit of the Stone Pillar? Wen Yu had no plan; the situation had been too dire. All he could do was hang on to his life and take things one step at a time. Or rather, live every second he could.

This was the sorrow of the weak in the apocalypse.

”DING. The promotion challenge will start in 30 seconds. Please make sure the Challenger is ready.”

The clear prompt interrupted Wen Yu’s thoughts.

Wen Yu suppressed his irritation and unease, steadied his mind, and looked inside the Challenge Space.

The entire Challenge Space was about the size of a basketball court, its boundaries all covered by a barrier emitting a white light. Wen Yu forcefully pressed this barrier.

It was soft and warm, like being inside a living organism. Moreover, the barrier didn’t have much rebound force; all the force was absorbed by it.

In his previous life, Wen Yu had also encountered the Level 1 to Level 2 promotion trial, and the space was exactly the same as now.

I wonder what kind of creature will appear. And after promotion, what skills will the Soul Beast awaken? Under Simba’s immense pressure, Wen Yu pinned his only hope on the Soul Beast’s second ability.

”Challenge countdown: 10, 9, 8...”

Hearing the prompt that the challenge was about to start, Wen Yu swung the steel saber in his hand and focused on what was straight ahead.

With a flash of white light, a white rabbit, half as tall as a human, appeared before Wen Yu. Its bright red eyes were fixed on Wen Yu, and its two huge incisors gleamed coldly, like daggers.

The big rabbit hissed fiercely at Wen Yu and then hopped backward.

Wen Yu exhaled, slowly lowering the battle saber in his hand.

So, it’s a rabbit. A rabbit should be easy to handle. Seeing his opponent, Wen Yu relaxed.

Rabbits as a species don’t possess strong combat abilities. If it were a tiger or a Lion with 10 physique points, Wen Yu would undoubtedly have to give 200% effort. But whether a rabbit with 10 physique points could even kill was another matter entirely.

The Demonic Qi caused creatures to undergo Evolution, but it rarely changed their habits. Unless extremely hungry or at a crucial point in their Evolution, herbivores seldom initiated an attack.

Of course, Wen Yu wasn’t certain whether higher-level herbivores would change their grass-eating habits.

Watching the big rabbit hopping around the field, Wen Yu deactivated his combat stance and pondered how to escape Simba’s jaws.

If all else fails, I’ll just stay in here longer. I’ll wait until Simba leaves to hunt during the day before I go out, Wen Yu gritted his teeth, thinking of the method with the highest probability of survival. If it wasn’t for that damn Cyclops persistently pursuing me, I would have left this dangerous place long ago.

Speaking of which, that beast Cyclops should have been killed by Simba by now.

”DING. Challenger, please pay attention. Considering that you are part of the Human Race Sequence and your challenge opponent is not strong, please complete the challenge within five minutes. If the Challenger fails, you will not be allowed to participate in a second promotion trial for ten days and will lose your status in the Human Race Sequence. Current remaining time: three minutes.”

The prompt pulled Wen Yu back from his daydream of leaving tomorrow.

”Damn it!” Wen Yu cursed fiercely at the treasure land.

Forget about the Human Race Sequence status, which I absolutely can’t lose. If I don’t secure a victory within five minutes and fail the challenge... given the treasure land’s usual tricks, would it really just let me stay here for tea?

He decisively picked up his steel saber and walked directly towards the large rabbit hopping chaotically around the area.
