Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 37: Chapter 37 Terrifying Assassination Plot_1

Simba stepped out of the park he had spent his entire life in and discovered just how wonderful the world beyond was.

It wasn’t because of the scenery, but simply because there was so much food out there. The feeling of human-like creatures constantly flinging themselves at him, only to be chewed up and swallowed, was intoxicating to Simba. He believed that leaving the park was the best decision he had made in his life.

Should I make a home outside? Simba wondered.

His massive head shook, knocking down the few remaining zombies around him. Simba completely ignored these weak creatures.

He decided to go home. The ”bed” there was more comfortable to sleep in.

Simba was full. He turned, his wide mouth opening as a massive Flame Flow incinerated the stumbling zombies behind him. Seeing no more food around, Simba yawned contentedly. A lion, particularly a male lion, should lead a life of eating and sleeping, Simba thought affirmatively.

Then, he slowly headed back to the park.

「...」

Inside the park, Wen Yu and Cyclops tacitly halted their fight. Since neither side could achieve their desired result, stopping the fight was the best choice.

Seeing Cyclops’s scarlet eyes revealing a brutal murderous intent, Wen Yu stared back fiercely, ”You damned dog, I’m letting you off today. If you dare look for trouble again, I’ll take your dog life.”

Although Cyclops didn’t understand what Wen Yu meant, it didn’t prevent him from understanding the tone of the words. He growled fiercely a few times, slowly retreating towards the main gate of the park.

As Cyclops retreated further and further, Wen Yu also began to slowly move towards the back of the park.

Once they could no longer see each other, Wen Yu resentfully threw down the steel saber in his hand. His failure to kill that cursed dog today spelled future trouble. He anticipated Cyclops would constantly seek him out. If any accident occurred, this beast would surely kill him.

Exhaling a sigh, Wen Yu stopped bothering with the troublesome Cyclops. He planned to pass the promotion trial as soon as possible. Only by becoming stronger himself would he fear no challenge.

Simba swayed his way home. Before he could even enter, he detected an unfamiliar smell. Lowering his massive head, Simba sniffed heavily. His powerful inhalation caused ripples in the filthy blood on the ground. He tried hard to distinguish the smell at the doorstep, Hmm, there’s a powerful creature, like the grizzly bear I had eaten.

Simba’s sharp sense of smell helped him identify Cyclops’s scent.

On one hand, he was annoyed. Simba hadn’t expected other creatures would dare to invade his Territory.

On the other hand, he was expectant. After all, he hadn’t found such delicious food during his hunt today.

Simba shook his massive head hard. Smelling the scent of the unknown creature, he started to feel hungry again.

「...」

Cyclops’s plan for revenge today had been foiled, and he was feeling peeved. Biting hard into the scraps Simba had left on the ground, a rotten smell assaulted his taste buds, making Cyclops nauseous.

That human should taste delicious, he thought as he conjured up images of dismembering Wen Yu, while chewing on a zombie’s arm. Cyclops was determined to follow that human. As soon as he got the chance, he would shred that human’s throat. f r\eew,eb novel.c(o)(m)

Imagining the human’s painful death in his jaws, Cyclops slowly walked back the way he came. He occasionally glanced back, fearing the human behind him might foolishly pick another fight.

Although his newly awakened ability helped his wounds to quickly heal, Cyclops didn’t want to suffer the pain brought by the Soul Strike.

Obviously, Wen Yu had also instilled fear in Cyclops’s heart.

Before reaching the park gate, Cyclops suddenly halted, dropping the zombie arm from his mouth. It landed on the ground, kicking up a few splashes of filthy blood.

He stared blankly at the massive shadow in front. Then, a pair of eyes as big as lanterns looked over at him.

「...」

Before Wen Yu could find the widespread Exchange Stone Pillars, he heard hurried footsteps behind him.

Wen Yu turned around abruptly to see Cyclops stumbling towards him from afar.

Is this beast looking for trouble so soon? Wen Yu was perplexed. Logically speaking, Cyclops wouldn’t continue to fight him, knowing well that it would yield no result.

Cyclops, panting heavily, dashed towards Wen Yu. His steps had lost the steady and cautious demeanor he had when they were fighting.

Only then did Wen Yu realize something was wrong. The ruthless expression had disappeared from Cyclops’s eyes, replaced by panic, fear, and even terror.

Wen Yu suddenly shuddered. In the entire Mudanjiang City, there was possibly only one creature capable of instilling such emotions in Cyclops.

A dazzling red light lit up from afar. A red column of fire, like a laser beam, swept directly towards Wen Yu and Cyclops.

Damn it! Wen Yu realized where he was. His great acquisition just now had made him complacent, and he’d forgotten about the park’s inherent danger.

After all, the park had an owner.

Wen Yu dove backward immediately as the column of fire swept over him. The intense burning sensation couldn’t warm the chill in his heart.

Seeing Cyclops nimbly dodge the column of fire and flee forward, Wen Yu didn’t dare look back. He sprinted desperately in the opposite direction from which the fire had come.

ROAR! A gigantic roar thundered from behind him. The terrifying murderous aura made Wen Yu’s entire body tingle. The stench of death washed over him.

What should I do? What should I do? Wen Yu thought frantically for a countermeasure.

Hearing Simba’s footsteps drawing closer and closer from behind, Wen Yu made up his mind.

Now, I can only rely on the promotion trial to save my life. The promotion trial could transport challengers into the Challenge Space. For Wen Yu, this was undoubtedly the last straw to grasp.

Exchange Stone Pillars were not hard to find. There was definitely one up ahead.

Seeing Cyclops getting slower and slower in the distance, Wen Yu saw hope. As the saying goes: you don’t have to outrun the beast, you just have to outrun your teammate to survive.

The skill Cyclops acquired from reaching Level 2 was likely related to self-healing. Ironically, as his injuries gradually healed, the enhancement effect of his first ability actually decreased. This indirectly demonstrated the importance of skill synergy.

Cyclops also realized the crisis. His ugly dog head kept looking back. He saw Wen Yu getting closer and closer, while Simba’s terrifying figure also gradually came into view. The fear in Cyclops’s eyes intensified.
