Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Naive Conspiracy

The top executives of the Dongshen Financial Group’s management committee, the big shots at the general manager level, had personally issued a special directive.

They didn’t dare make a big scene, so this was the only way they could handle Madam Han Biwei’s job application.

Mr. Qin had given a special order: not only were they to give Madam Han Biwei absolute freedom of choice, but they also had to act as if they didn’t know who she was.

And now, that directive had been torn to shreds.

A young woman from the HR department, holding the torn scraps of paper, frantically chased them into the recruitment office.

The head of interviews, Supervisor Yang, looked at her impatiently. ”Wang Xiaoshuang, will you ever quit?”

The HR department had plenty of new clerks, but the most troublesome one was Wang Xiaoshuang. She took everything too seriously, to an extent that people found annoying.

”Supervisor Yang, you have to confirm it. The directive approved by the executives is for—”

Before she could finish, Supervisor Yang impatiently snatched up his desk phone. ”Fine, I’ll ask right now!”

”Hey, Secretary Liu? Heh heh, it’s Yang from recruitment. So, I heard the general managers approved a special directive to take care of a certain new candidate for an interview. I just wanted to ask...”

Secretary Liu sounded impatient on the other end. ”The GMs are in a meeting. I know about it. The person’s surname is Han, got it? The moment Miss Han shows up, you are to treat her with the utmost seriousness and responsibility. Let her choose any position she wants!”

”Yes, yes! I’ll take care of it immediately!”

After hanging up, Supervisor Yang completely ignored the young clerk. Instead, he turned to Li Xiaohai and gave him a big thumbs-up. ”Young Master Li, you’re incredible! The general managers of our Dongshen have rolled out the red carpet for you. I’ve confirmed it: Miss Han Qianqian can have any position she wants. The choice is hers!”

’Holy shit!’

’How could I be so lucky!’

Li Xiaohai and Han Qianqian exchanged a look, unable to conceal their wild joy.

”We’re just going to step out and discuss this. We’ll only be a moment.”

After saying this, Li Xiaohai cleared his throat and quickly pulled Han Qianqian outside.

Once they were in a secluded spot outside, Li Xiaohai’s expression changed completely. He clasped his hands together and began to plead, ”Qianqian, my darling, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

Han Qianqian’s face was now dark. ”You bastard! You’ve completely ruined my Han Family! We emptied our accounts and took out hundreds of millions in loans! You said doing business with the Qin Celestial King of the Northern Domain was a sure thing, a guaranteed profit! Well, now the goods are gone! We didn’t make a single cent, and now our family is finished! Do you get that?”

As she spoke, she raised her hand and began slapping Li Xiaohai hard across the face.

Young Master Li gritted his teeth, shut his eyes, and took it as her slaps echoed with a sharp CRACK!

But what could he do? Who could have predicted such a massive disaster in the Northern Domain? The Qin Celestial King was removed from power, and the Celestial Demon’s enemy forces attacked the transport convoys. It was a bloodbath in the Beimo Land.

The Han Family’s entire investment—and all of Li Xiaohai’s—had been washed away!

Now they were hundreds of millions in debt, so desperate they were considering suicide.

After what felt like an eternity, Han Qianqian finally stopped hitting him. She sneered, ”Alright, enough. What exactly is your plan here, making me, the distinguished young lady of the Han Family, come work for some other company?”

Li Xiaohai rubbed his swollen face and lowered his voice. ”This Dongshen Financial Group isn’t just any company. Have you heard of the Northern Domain’s former War God, the Night Emperor?”

Han Qianqian froze. ”Of course I have. Who hasn’t? But didn’t that great hero die in battle?”

Like so many other girls, Han Qianqian had once considered the Night Emperor—the brilliant general who had dominated the Northern Domain—her dream man.

Li Xiaohai gritted his teeth. ”The great Night Emperor is dead, yes, but his Six Halls and Ninth Army are still active! I’ve already done my research. That shipment of ours that was impounded, along with our initial payment—it’s all being controlled by the Dongshen Financial Group!”

”What? Is that true?” Han Qianqian was astonished. ”So that’s it! You want me to go undercover at the Dongshen Financial Group?”

”For God’s sake, no! Not as a mole! You’re going to get into Dongshen’s Northern Commerce Department, find out exactly where our goods and money are being held, and then... then I’ll fucking find some people and we’ll just take it back by force!”

Han Qianqian was stunned. ”Are you insane? That’s just naive. How is that even possible? These people were the Night Emperor’s subordinates...”

”Don’t worry. I’ve already contacted a group of elite experts. They have a powerful background—I can’t tell you the details right now, but I can give you a hint. They’re all enemies of the Night Emperor. They’re from the Imperial Capital’s Qin Family and Ye Family!”

Li Xiaohai grew smug. ”The point is, you take this opportunity to get directly into Dongshen’s Northern Commerce Department. Pick a mid-level management position and start investigating immediately!”

Their plan settled, Li Xiaohai rubbed his red, stinging face and led Han Qianqian back inside.

”We’ve made our decision. My dear would like to go to the Northern Commerce Department. A section head position or something similar to start would be fine.”

Supervisor Yang nodded eagerly. ”Simple! That’s perfectly simple! We have the directive from on high, after all. How about this: the Third Commercial Section of the Northern Commerce Department, the one that deals directly with the Northern Domain Battle Department, happens to need a supervisor. Miss Han Qianqian can take the role of section chief, effective immediately!”

Wang Xiaoshuang, who had been standing anxiously to the side this whole time, stomped her foot and cried out, ”The directive from the executives was very clear! It’s for Han Biwei, not Han Qianqian!”

”You shut your mouth!” Supervisor Yang roared in fury. ”What the hell do you know? Who cares about some Han Biwei? Are her connections more powerful than Young Master Li’s? This is a no-brainer! Don’t you know Young Master Li is about to become the heir to the Changshan Group?”

”And what’s the relationship between the Changshan Group and our Dongshen? We’re practically brother companies!”

Supervisor Yang scoffed. ”How many years have I been navigating the professional world? If I can’t even figure out a simple connection like this, I’ve wasted my life. I’ve eaten more salt than you have rice! Now get out! One more goddamn word out of you and you can pack your desk and scram.”

Wang Xiaoshuang was thrown out of the office, but that ”flaw” of hers—being earnest and responsible—kicked in again.

Wiping away her tears and swallowing her frustration, the young woman returned to the lobby and called out, ”Excuse me, is one of you Miss Han Biwei?”
