Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Whose Fine Car and Spacious House

Yuan Jingjing, well, she’d never had the chance to be around high-end luxury goods, so of course she couldn’t recognize it.

The bag Qin Tianxuan had given Han Biwei was the Chanel White Diamond Deep Emotion Handbag, worth over twenty million. It was no exaggeration to call it one of the most exclusive luxury items in the world today!

Han Biwei was just as clueless about its value, but she loved the bag, so she had been using it ever since. ”It doesn’t matter. Everyone knows my situation anyway.”

They stepped into an elevator, which turned out to be a private one.

”Jingjing, isn’t this one of the Dongshen Financial Group’s hotels? I hear it’s incredibly popular.”

”Of course it is. Zhang Haodong had to pull some strings just to get us a regular table in the Sky Garden Restaurant. As for those VIP tables by the window, they’re usually booked six months in advance.”

The words tumbled out of Yuan Jingjing’s mouth like machine-gun fire. ”Zhang Haodong is a big deal now. He jumped ship to the Dongshen Financial Group and became a junior executive. His annual salary is this much!”

She held up an open palm.

An annual salary of five million. For a regular employee, that was practically royalty.

Han Biwei couldn’t care less. She just smiled knowingly. ”You’re into him, aren’t you?”

Yuan Jingjing snorted. ”No way. Zhang Haodong’s a total scumbag and a player. I hear he messes around with girls all over the place. He even managed to snag our old classmate, Li Qian.”

She said, clearly annoyed, ”The man I’m looking for should be a world-conqueror—incredibly handsome, immensely powerful, with mountains of cash, and utterly devoted to me!”

Han Biwei laughed. ”Powerful, rich, handsome, and completely devoted to you? That kind of man only exists in K-dramas. Keep dreaming.”

The two of them walked through the revolving doors. The Sky Garden Restaurant was already packed.

In a corner to the right, a crowd of men and women was squeezed around a relatively small table.

Zhang Haodong was dressed in a sharp suit. With his handsome face, gym-honed muscles, and whitened teeth, he looked every bit the urban elite.

Clinging to his side was their old classmate, Li Qian, looking flashy in a cheongsam with a slit that went all the way up her thigh. She was currently fiddling with a gemstone necklace, showing it off to their former classmates. ”Haodong gave this to me. It’s from Cartier, worth several hundred thousand.”

The diamond-studded ruby necklace glittered, trembling on Li Qian’s pale, heaving chest as she laughed.

Several of the male classmates at the table secretly gulped. ’Damn, so a bombshell like her ended up with Zhang Haodong. It’s so fucking good to be rich!’

The women, on the other hand, offered congratulations on the surface, but their eyes were filled with envy, jealousy, and hate.

This was exactly the effect Li Qian was going for, and she laughed even louder.

Suddenly, Zhang Haodong, who was next to her, shot to his feet, his face filled with delighted surprise as he called out, ”Weiwei!”

All eyes turned to see Han Biwei, who, despite her simple clothes, still radiated an undeniable elegance. Beside her was the former class beauty, Yuan Jingjing.

”Jingjing, you finally made it!” Li Qian puffed out her chest, as if wanting to stick her gemstone necklace right on top of her head for all to see.

Yuan Jingjing felt a knot of annoyance tighten in her chest. She walked right over and placed the keys to her new BMW 7 Series in a conspicuous spot on the table.

”Oh, look, Jingjing’s gotten a new car again! A luxury car worth over a million!” her classmates commented with sly grins.

Yuan Jingjing sat down directly across from Li Qian and chuckled. ”It’s not that expensive. But I guess it’s true that it costs a little more than a gemstone necklace.”

The jab hit Li Qian right in the face.

Li Qian sat up straight, rubbing her full figure against Zhang Haodong’s arm. ”Darling, look at her car. It’s so much nicer than mine.”

Zhang Haodong’s eyes were fixed on Han Biwei, and he answered dismissively, ”Fine. I’ll get you one later.”

Li Qian blinked smugly. ”I want one that’s over a million!”

Yuan Jingjing nearly exploded with rage. While motioning for Han Biwei to sit, she scoffed with pointed nonchalance, ”I bought my car with my own money. Can’t compare to some people who can get a new car just by asking.”

The battle lines between the two women were drawn.

A rivalry that had started back in middle school over the title of class beauty was about to boil over.

Han Biwei quickly sat down beside Jingjing and gave her a gentle nudge. ”Both of you, stop it. We rarely get to see each other. It’s been so many years.”

The tension in the air eased slightly.

It was time to order food and drinks. Since Squad Leader Zhang was hosting, he naturally took charge.

But with every dish he suggested, Zhang Haodong would first turn to Han Biwei. ”Weiwei, does this sound good to you?”

It was the same when he ordered drinks.

”Weiwei, would you like some of this?”

His lovestruck expression made everyone feel awkward, especially since his current girlfriend, Li Qian, was sitting right beside him.

They were all old classmates, after all. A single glance at Li Qian’s face showed that she was no longer smiling.

Han Biwei quickly made an excuse to go to the restroom. She stayed away for a long time before returning, which finally broke the awkward tension.

By then, everyone was chatting away animatedly.

”I bought a place in a good school district in South City, one of the Dongshen Financial Group’s developments. Housing prices are insane these days. Even a small apartment costs several million!”

”Tell me about it. I bought in South City too. It’s a detached villa, but the common area is huge, so the usable space isn’t great. Still cost me over ten million.”

On the surface, they were all complaining about housing prices, but in reality, they were just bragging.

Class reunions were always like this. The nostalgia was just for show. The real event was bragging about who had the nicer car or the bigger house.

Han Biwei sat there, feeling completely out of place.
