The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 1107: Chapter 420: My Husband Is a Supporting Character (Part 19)

What?

He Tian wants to go to the Northwest to lead troops?

Zhou Jin widened his eyes in disbelief, what had he just heard?

Could it be that He Tian was joking?

The war in the Northwest is by no means child’s play.

In the Imperial court, arguments over the selection of the commanding general have almost overturned heaven.

Zhou Jin is no longer the invisible Prince of the past; his experience in the Ministry of War gives him far more insight than ordinary court ministers!

Dayuan has more than just He Jing as the Great General; there are other veteran generals and fierce warriors.

In the past, with He Jing there, the Northwest was the domain of the He Family.

Now that both He Jing and his son have fallen, the military generals are eager to seize power.

And several older Princes have also set their sights on the Northwest Army as a piece of juicy meat.

Zhou Jin had also considered it; he has more advantages compared to the Crown Prince, Third Prince, and others.

He is the son-in-law of the He Family, virtually half a member of the He Family.

If the court requires a ”Ji Xiang” to appease and gather the Northwest Army, Zhou Jin is also a good choice.

However, Zhou Jin has never been on the battlefield and has no reliable mentors to guide him, so he doesn’t dare to make a decision lightly.

Moreover, the conversation in Star Picking Tower a few days ago disturbed Zhou Jin’s mind.

On one hand, he is surprised by ”He Tian’s” virtuous and generous nature.

On the other hand, Shushu’s evasiveness and grievance make Zhou Jin uncontrollably speculate.

After that day, Zhou Jin secretly sought He Shu once more.

Seeing He Shu’s hesitant and aggrieved expression, Zhou Jin temporarily suppressed his suspicions about her, instead feeling more sympathetic for the orphaned girl’s difficulties in Marquis Mansion.

Alas, with the Ma Family acting as the main viewer for the Fourth Prince, no matter how Shushu feels, she must obediently comply!

Without father or brothers, living under the wing of an uncle, such is her plight!

Busy with cherishing the beauty, talking about love, Zhou Jin naturally neglected matters of the Imperial court.

But what’s the situation now?

His Princess Consort, a mere woman, actually wants to go to the battlefield?!

Zhou Jin only feels it is absurd.

The Emperor doesn’t find it outrageous, rather he is intrigued.

With a pair of old, deep eyes, he fixates on He Tiantian, and the Emperor speaks: ”Princess Qi, the battlefield is no child’s play—”

Before the Emperor can finish his words, He Tiantian straightens her back and says forcefully: ”Your Majesty, I am not joking. From a young age, I learned martial arts with my father, listening to him explain matters of the battlefield.”

He Tiantian speaks eloquently, her confident demeanor truly dazzling.

The Emperor’s eyes flash.

Honestly speaking, He Tian is indeed a good choice.

Dayuan is not lacking in fierce warriors who can fight, but they lack someone who is recognized by the Northwest Army.

Just like He Tiantian previously said to the Ma Family, ”My surname is He,” these three words outweigh countless battle-ready generals.

For six or seven generations, the He Family has cultivated the Northwest; the hundred thousand Northwest Army already bears the ”He” surname.

If not for the loyalty and patriotism of the successive South and Ning Marquis, never harboring ambition, the Royal Family would have long been unable to tolerate the He Family.

The army belongs to the court, what’s the X Family Army supposed to look like?

Fortunately, the He Family is wise, although they hold great military power, they are extremely loyal to the court and the Emperor.

The He Family Army also serves as a protective barrier in the Northwest.

The current Emperor may not be a Wise Emperor, but he is not foolish.

He won’t prematurely plot conspiracy due to fear of a Great General holding military power.

Conspiring with treacherous officials to frame the Great General, colluding with the Foreign Clan to massacre one’s own troops, destroying one’s own Great Wall, cutting off one’s own arm... Tsk tsk, what kind of brainless foolish Emperor would commit such stupid acts?!

The Emperor prides himself on being magnanimous; he upholds the will of the late Emperor: as long as the He Family does not rebel, the Royal Family will tolerate the existence of the He Family Army.

The Royal Family has given the He Family adequate trust, and the He Family can wholeheartedly train the army and guard the borders.

Sometimes, when the court’s provisions are delayed, the He Family has to pay from their own pocket.

Marquis South/Ning’s Mansion has led troops for generations, yet the family isn’t particularly prosperous, nor is the mansion particularly wealthy.

The reason lies here: a hundred thousand Northwest Army, even occasional subsidies are a considerable expense.

Forcing a family to spend their money on maintaining the court’s troops without offering benefits would provoke rebellion.

The Emperor asserts he refuses to commit such foolishness.

Thus, the Northwest Army unmistakably bears the He Family’s mark.

However, when the He Family lineage faces the risk of being severed, a military carrying such deep family marks becomes problematic.

If the court were to recklessly appoint a commander unrelated to the He Family, not even mentioning the deputies and assistant generals nurtured by the He Family, even ordinary soldiers might not accept.
