The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 119: Chapter 084: The Whole Family Is Top-grade (Part 16)_3

”She’s not completely useless apart from having a pretty face!”

Yan Xingzhou muttered under his breath, looking up at the small screen above the bar that displayed her figure.

Today was not the first time Yan Xingzhou heard about He Tiantian becoming an athlete and participating in the Asian Games.

Half a month earlier, when Yan Xingzhou had called home to check in, Mrs. Yan, chattering about family matters, somehow brought up He Tiantian.

Of course, Mrs. Yan did not regret that her family had lost an athlete daughter-in-law but seemed puzzled, ”The He Family has known our family for more than ten years, but how come I never knew that He Tiantian could do archery?”

”Ah, Xingzhou, do you think this is true? With He Tiantian’s pampered and delicate appearance, can she endure the hardships of being an athlete?”

”And, is there really such a thing as talent? Having formally practiced archery for only a few months, she, she’s qualified to join the National Team?”

In Mrs. Yan’s memory, the He Family had always been an unacceptable presence.

Suddenly, there was a ground-shaking change within the He Family.

He Tiantian, whom Mrs. Yan looked down upon the most, ran to the Yan Family to break off their engagement, uttering many words that shamed Yan Xingzhou.

Before Mrs. Yan could secretly trip up the He Family, news spread that He Tiantian was chosen for the provincial team because of her archery talent.

Then... Mrs. Yan actually saw He Tiantian on TV in the Asian Games.

Unbelievable!

Absolutely unbelievable.

Mrs. Yan felt as though she was caught in a bizarre and surreal dream.

Only, when she opened her eyes, the dream did not vanish.

With He Tiantian’s broken engagement, it seemed there was no relationship between the He and Yan families.

But the neighbors around knew some of the grievances between their families and had also heard about the engagement between He Tiantian and Yan Xingzhou.

Back then, the neighbors sided with Mrs. Yan, united in their condemnation of the He Family’s shamelessness, taking advantage of their kindness, sucking the blood of the Yan Family, eating their flesh, utterly disgusting.

But now—

Everyone had seen He Tiantian on TV, and her name was mentioned in the seven o’clock news.

When the neighbors saw Mrs. Yan again, their eyes held a strange look.

Some even sighed behind her back, ”The Yan Family just doesn’t have the luck for a good daughter-in-law. Tsk tsk, an Asian Games champion, and I heard she’ll be attending a celebration banquet; she might even meet the top leaders...”

Although the Yan Family had some power, it was confined to the local level.

In Capital City, Old Master Yan’s name might not be as resonant as He Tiantian’s is now.

Mrs. Yan was so stifled, she kept muttering to herself, ”Even if He Tiantian became a world champion, she’s still not good enough for my son Xingzhou!”

However, such words could only provide solace in her heart; Mrs. Yan dared not say them out loud.

Because, under the current circumstances, athlete He Tiantian brought glory to the country, whereas the honorable Yan Xingzhou, who once served in the military for Weiguo, is now ”self-degrading,” running off to be some individual entrepreneur!

Sigh—

Mrs. Yan didn’t realize it herself, but she often sighed when talking to her son on the phone.

Over the telephone line, Yan Xingzhou couldn’t see his mother’s face, but he could feel her complex emotions.

Yan Xingzhou’s sense of humiliation grew stronger, and within those thick, negative emotions, there was a mix of indescribable, unclear affection.

Yan Xingzhou’s integrity told him that He Tiantian deserved praise for winning the championship and bringing honor to the country.

But he could never forget all of He Tiantian’s past brazenness and absurdities.

So, when he happened to see the news about He Tiantian at the restaurant, and there was no one else around, he finally murmured softly.

But, Yan Xingzhou could have never expected that a young girl with delicate features and a striking presence, who had just passed by him, would catch that very line, ”she’s not completely useless apart from having a pretty face.”

The young girl, who was the female lead Gu Xiaoya, immediately furrowed her brows.

She had just been admitted to a prestigious university in Shanghai last year and had been working part-time to support herself.

Of course, she wasn’t working in a restaurant but tutoring and writing articles to earn manuscript fees.

She had come to this restaurant today to meet with a student’s parent to discuss business.

Upon entering, amid the boisterous crowd, she had spotted a tall, handsome man exuding a strong sense of righteousness.

Gu Xiaoya wasn’t lovesick, but appreciating beauty was a natural instinct; not only do men like to look at beautiful women, but women also enjoy gazing at handsome men.

After finishing her business with the student’s parent and grabbing a quick meal, Gu Xiaoya was ready to leave but couldn’t help stealing a few more glances at the attractive man.

Her steps involuntarily drew her toward him, and before she even ”passed by,” she heard the very statement she detested the most!

A woman’s looks?

Hmph, even though he looked strong with thick eyebrows and large eyes, it turned out he was just another chauvinist pig!
