Chapter 44: Chapter 44: A High-Intensity Month

Inside the Mecha’s cockpit, Lin Jingjing was flustered for the first time. She sat helplessly on the chair, staring at the training room ceiling.

For a moment, she began to question her very existence. ’Am I really this bad? I even made the Mecha fall over!’

Jiang Lusheng pressed a hand to his forehead, feeling a headache coming on.

’She’s eager to learn, but having zero practical foundation is a real pain.’

Lin Jingjing frantically mashed the buttons on the control console, trying to get it to stand up. She didn’t know what she pressed, but the entire Mecha started spazzing out.

The Mecha’s arms flailed wildly in the air, its legs thrashing about.

It was like a child throwing a tantrum on the floor because their mom wouldn’t buy them a favorite toy.

The others couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. ”Sister Lin, what are you doing?” Feng He shouted from a distance, cupping his hands around his mouth.

The pink Mecha thrashed on the ground, kicking up clouds of dust.

They covered their noses to avoid inhaling it.

”I don’t know how to pilot it—” Lin Jingjing’s voice was so loud it carried directly from the cockpit.

”It just suddenly fell over, and I have no idea what to do!”

From the sound of her voice, it was clear Lin Jingjing was panicking. This Mecha was completely different from what Mr. Jiang had described.

’I’m going to lose my mind!’

’This is so embarrassing!’

In the end, Lin Jingjing gave up and just went limp.

’Whatever, let it do what it wants.’

Jiang Lusheng heaved a deep sigh, walked over, and knocked on the Mecha’s head. ”Get your Mecha under control.”

”I can’t...” Lin Jingjing replied listlessly. The academic superstar had suffered a major blow and was feeling miserable.

In the end, Jiang Lusheng stood beside her and explained the internal structure of this 20-year-old Mecha.

After listening, she realized the controls were a bit like a video game.

It was just that she couldn’t get the hang of it. With some effort, Lin Jingjing finally managed to get the Mecha to sit up.

She understood now. Piloting this Mecha required a quick mind and coordinated limbs.

’So hard.’

Once it was sitting up, Jiang Lusheng yanked open the cockpit and looked at Lin Jingjing inside.

He then swung his long legs and climbed in. The space was quite small, and with Jiang Lusheng inside, it suddenly became crowded.

Jiang Lusheng placed his hands on the control console and, with a few quick moves, made the whole Mecha stand up from the ground.

As Jiang Lusheng operated the controls, he explained each step. Lin Jingjing listened intently, watching his hands move.

”None of you know how to pilot a Mecha?” Jiang Lusheng asked.

”No, this is our first time,” Lin Jingjing replied.

”That’s impossible. You’ve never played Star Soul?”

’I’ve played Star Soul, but not much.’

”Never played it,” Lin Jingjing said bluntly. ”We’re poor. No Star Ring to play on.”

Hearing this, Jiang Lusheng didn’t press the issue. He performed a few more maneuvers for her before climbing out of the cockpit.

”You all practice hard. I want to see results by the end of the session.” With that, Jiang Lusheng turned and left.

The other four nodded. As soon as he was gone, they immediately opened their Star Rings and quickly looked up video tutorials online.

Meanwhile, after getting the hang of the basic controls, Lin Jingjing found it was simpler than she had imagined. Her confidence returned.

’See? As if a mere Mecha could defeat me, Academic superstar Lin!’

In an empty corner of the room, Lin Jingjing went from being unable to walk to executing a perfect backflip in the Mecha, all within half an hour.

After she had mastered it, she climbed out of the cockpit and said, ”Who’s next?”

”Me, me, me!” The others, who had been waiting impatiently, all rushed forward.

In the end, with Mo Xuan’s help, Feng He got in.

Throughout the afternoon, they all took turns practicing, and each of them learned how to do a backflip.

They checked the time—it was already four in the afternoon.

”Shouldn’t we be heading to the kitchen to cook?” Shi Feng asked, glancing at the time and remembering what Captain Li had said.

They all looked down at the time and realized it was indeed time to go.

”Should we tell Mr. Jiang then?”

”Okay.”

While they were still discussing it, Jiang Lusheng had already come up behind them.

”How’s the practice going?” he asked, crossing his arms.

”Pretty good,” Lin Jingjing replied, getting up from the floor.

”Alright, let’s see it.” Jiang Lusheng nodded, then gestured with his chin.

”Can we be dismissed after we show you?” Lin Jingjing asked.

”You can.”

Hearing that, Lin Jingjing didn’t waste any more words and climbed straight into the Mecha.

Once inside, she quickly performed a backflip for Jiang Lusheng, then immediately got out after finishing the demonstration.

The whole thing took less than three minutes.

Jiang Lusheng was a bit dumbfounded. ’They spent a whole afternoon just to learn a backflip?’

Immediately after, the other four also hurried to perform their backflips.

After they were done, the five of them lined up and said, ”This is what we learned this afternoon.”

Jiang Lusheng raised a hand to scratch his head, finally asking, ”You spent the entire afternoon learning just this?”

The five of them nodded in unison. ”That’s right.”

”This slow?” Jiang Lusheng asked instinctively.

”Haha, we’re starting from scratch,” Feng He said with an awkward laugh.

Jiang Lusheng thought of the Mecha flailing on the ground, sighed, and waved his hand. ”Dismissed.”

As soon as they heard the word ”dismissed,” the five of them bolted for the training room doors.

’Kitchen, here we come!’

Watching them vanish in an instant, he wondered, ”What’s the rush?”

By this time, Captain Li was already busy in the kitchen when the five of them came in, dressed in white uniforms with hats and masks.

”Class is over already?” Captain Li was a little surprised to see them so early.

”Yep. What are we cooking today?” Lin Jingjing walked over and casually picked up a spatula.

”Meat,” Captain Li replied.

They all looked at the meat, which had been washed and placed in a basin.

Their minds were already picturing how to cook it.

From four to six o’clock, after a long day, they had to cook again. They were completely exhausted.

But after they finished cooking, they couldn’t even sit down; they still had to serve the food.

By the time they were done with everything, they were ready to collapse from exhaustion.

The special training in the morning wasn’t even as tiring as the rush of cooking in the afternoon.

”Help me... I’m so tired, I just want to sleep,” Shi Feng cried out feebly, slumped in a chair. He was also starving.

After resting for a while, they stood up. ”Let’s go eat.”

Just as they finished eating, they were suddenly informed that they had more training.

”AAAAAH, more training?!” Shi Feng was about to lose it.

”This is going to kill me!”

Standing on the training field under the floodlights, Shi Feng felt completely hollowed out.

After being trained until nine o’clock, they were all exhausted, looking as if their life essence had been drained by a demon.

They had absolutely no energy left.

They took quick showers, flopped into their beds, and were out like a light.

They were busy from morning till night, tired to death.

For the next month, they lived through this same high-intensity schedule.

When they finally got a day off, they were on the verge of tears.

”Sob... we can finally rest,” Feng He was already crying. The month of high-intensity training had made the five of them tanner and more muscular.

Their physical fitness had also improved greatly, and they had all learned how to pilot the Mecha.

The subsidy they were promised had been deposited into their accounts a week ago, so they were no longer broke.

With a day off, they could finally leave the First Corps and go shopping.
