Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Are You Trying to Get Yourself Killed?

Lin Jingjing considered his words for a moment. It really was quite funny.

It made it look like there was no one left in command.

As if they’d have to resort to sending five Grade D Spiritual Ability Users to save B6 Star.

”Then you should laugh for a while longer,” Lin Jingjing suggested sincerely.

He Shian was rendered speechless by her words.

’I don’t understand her train of thought. Couldn’t she tell I was being sarcastic?’

’She actually told me to laugh for a while longer.’

But Lin Jingjing’s next words made He Shian’s expression darken. ”Because the five of us actually have what it takes to save a planet.”

’Heh, she really knows how to flatter herself.’

He Shian remained silent, simply increasing the mecha’s speed and leaving the Red-winged Beasts behind.

Lin Jingjing hadn’t forgotten her mission. Once the mecha was three or four kilometers away, she judged the distance was right for a clean headshot with her heavy sniper.

She said, ”Open the hatch. I’m going out. You’ll have to cover me.”

The moment the mecha’s hatch opened, a violent gust of wind blasted inside.

Lin Jingjing’s ear-length hair was whipped into the air. The powerful wind stung her face and forced her eyes shut.

”Do you have any goggles?” With no other choice, Lin Jingjing quickly turned and asked He Shian.

He Shian pulled a pair of goggles from his Space Ring and tossed them to her. Lin Jingjing quickly put them on.

With the goggles on, she could finally open her eyes. By the light cast from a light orb and the mecha, Lin Jingjing got a clear view of the scene on the ground below. She pursed her lips, her eyes filling with sorrow and grief.

War was truly cruel. Countless bodies lay on the cold ground.

The corpses of humans and mutant beasts lay together on the same stretch of land. Crimson blood stained the earth, and the wreckage of countless mechas painted a vivid picture of war’s brutality.

Lin Jingjing asked in a low voice, ”If I jump, can you catch me?”

He Shian was extremely confident in his abilities. Without a second thought, he replied, ”I can.”

”Alright. I’m jumping. Catch me.” As Lin Jingjing spoke, she kicked her leg out and threw herself from the mecha.

The hatch sealed shut. He Shian sent the mecha into a steep dive, its hands extending to catch Lin Jingjing as she plummeted.

Lying in the mecha’s massive palm, Lin Jingjing stared at the pitch-black sky. She was dazed for only a few seconds before snapping back to her senses.

She crouched, pulled out her heavy sniper rifle, and began to aim toward a large boulder.

Lin Jingjing zoomed in the scope bit by bit. Once the large boulder was clearly in her sights, she took a deep breath and focused completely.

Just as she was about to fire and shatter the troublesome rock, she was interrupted when the mecha abruptly reversed and shot upward.

Lin Jingjing had to grip the mecha’s massive hand tightly to keep from falling.

”Hey, can’t you be a little more stable?” Lin Jingjing yelled, slapping the mecha’s chassis.

He Shian’s voice came through. ”I’m being as stable as I can. Red-winged Beasts are attacking us.”

”All I can do is evade.”

Left with no choice, Lin Jingjing opened a channel to her team. ”Cover me. Don’t let the mutant beasts attack our mecha.”

”Roger.”

With their orders received, the team members immediately drew their heavy sniper rifles and aimed at the Red-winged Beasts flitting through the sky.

But they quickly discovered that the Red-winged Beasts were too fast; they couldn’t predict their next movements.

”Lin, this isn’t working,” Feng He said, lowering his rifle with a frown. ”They’re too fast.”

”Unbelievably fast!” Gu Wenkai added.

”I’ll be your spotter,” Shi Feng spoke up.

Thanks to their tech, his large screen was now filled with all sorts of data and information.

He had data on the nighttime wind speed and humidity, the flight velocity of the locked-on mutant beasts, the muzzle velocity and range of their heavy sniper rifles, and the safety of the surrounding area.

After a quick familiarization, Shi Feng had mastered the entire data display.

”Southeast, nine o’clock! Clear to fire,” Shi Feng said seriously, watching the feed on his screen. ”Mo Xuan, lead your target by ten meters.”

Hearing this, Mo Xuan immediately aimed his rifle ten meters ahead of the Red-winged Beast and fired.

The bullet’s travel time and the Red-winged Beast’s flight speed converged perfectly. The moment they met, the bullet tore through the head of the charging beast.

Inside the mecha, He Shian watched the Red-winged Beast’s head explode in mid-air. A flicker of shock finally appeared in his normally impassive eyes.

’They killed a Red-winged Beast—the self-proclaimed ’Kings of the Sky’—with just a heavy sniper rifle.’

’This... This is impossible!’

’They’re only Grade D!’

Thanks to the team’s efforts, almost no Red-winged Beasts could get near the mecha.

Lin Jingjing raised her own heavy sniper again, took aim at the large boulder, and fired.

The bullet pierced the boulder, which then exploded.

The white mutant beast hiding behind it shrieked in alarm. Before, only a few mutant beasts had surrounded it.

But at its cry, countless mutant beasts swarmed in its direction, forming a high wall of bodies.

Watching this unfold, the team members all thought the same thing. ’This is bad.’

”There’s no way we can hit it now!” Feng He said, watching the white mutant beast get completely encircled.

He was right. It was impossible to get a clear shot, surrounded as it was by Steel Beasts.

”Third squad, have your drones attack the beast cluster,” He Shian commanded.

Upon receiving the command, the aerial drones immediately banked and headed toward the Steel Beasts.

But the white mutant beast wasn’t about to just stand there and wait to be killed.

It let out a cry to the heavens, and in an instant, every Red-winged Beast in the sky swarmed toward the mecha.

Staring at the innumerable Red-winged Beasts, Shi Feng was momentarily at a loss for words.

’There were too many.’

He Shian’s voice crackled, ”Hold on tight.” Then he immediately began weaving the mecha through the swarm of Red-winged Beasts.

By drawing all the fire, they gave many of the soldiers a chance to catch their breath.

But they had barely rested for a moment when they saw Admiral He’s mecha being swarmed by mutant beasts in the distance.

Damn it!

’That’s our Admiral He! He’s in danger! How could we, his soldiers, just stand by and watch him die?’

As if they’d taken stimulants, all the soldiers started attacking toward He Shian’s position.

Many mecha pilots also rushed over, determined to rescue Admiral He.

Gu Fei saw the scene and cursed, ”Son of a bitch!”

She immediately connected to He Shian’s comms. The moment the line connected, Gu Fei laid into him. ”Are you out of your mind? Why are you flying in that direction?!”

”Every Red-winged Beast is swarming you! You’re on a suicide mission!”

He Shian was simultaneously piloting the mecha and attacking the Red-winged Beasts with his solidified spiritual power.

”I don’t intend to die,” He Shian replied, somehow finding a moment to speak amidst the chaos.

”I’m sending someone who’s tired of living to her death.”
