Chapter 25: Chapter 25: To Catch Bandits, First Catch the King

”Fuck, are these mutant beasts on steroids today? Every last one of them is so damn vicious!” Gu Fei grew even more agitated when she heard the alert.

”I’m going to go slaughter them!”

Then, without a second thought, she stormed out of the tent. She deployed her mecha partner, climbed into the cockpit, and shot straight into the sky.

He Shian followed right behind her. Before leaving, he looked at Lin Jingjing, who was standing in the center of the group, and asked, ”You’re Lin Jingjing, right?”

Lin Jingjing nodded.

”Look after your team. Don’t let them run all over the place,” He Shian said, then he too left the tent.

Just like that, only the five of them remained in the tent.

The group stood there, staring blankly at one another. It seemed they had only been a burden.

”Sister Lin, what do we do now?” Feng He asked, looking to Lin Jingjing.

When they couldn’t decide what to do, everyone always looked to Lin Jingjing.

It had been this way since they were children; Lin Jingjing could always figure something out.

As all eyes fell on her, Lin Jingjing fell into thought. For a moment, she didn’t know what to do either.

She turned to look at the large screen nearby, which was covered in countless smaller displays.

Each screen showed the situation on the front lines, and the fighting looked brutal.

’The number of mutant beasts isn’t going down—it’s increasing. There’s no way they could be attacking with this level of coordination on their own.’

’There must be an organizer behind them, a leader.’

’Its rank must be higher than these frontline grunts. It’s commanding them from the rear.’

’In a battle like this, you cut the head off the snake.’

’If we can defeat their King, the rest of these mutant beasts will retreat.’

Lin Jingjing walked up to the screen, raised her hand, and tapped open the few feeds showing the mutant beast hordes.

Four feeds appeared on the main display, all showing a top-down view.

This would allow Lin Jingjing to spot any anomalies.

Her eyes darted rapidly across the four screens as she stared with intense focus.

For some reason, as she focused, the images before her seemed to slow down, and the sounds from outside began to stutter.

Lin Jingjing’s observation was meticulous, and she soon spotted something important.

In one area, a group of Steel Beasts had formed a circle. Standing inside was a pure white mutant beast.

It had crimson eyes and walked upright, its bat-like wings folded to protect its body.

Its long ears twitched. It was unclear what it heard, but it suddenly opened its mouth and let out a cry.

After the cry, it immediately shut its mouth and resumed walking.

”It’s—” Lin Jingjing enlarged the feed, pointed at the creature, and said, ”That’s the leader of the mutant beasts.”

Shi Feng looked at the mutant beast in utter astonishment.

”Isn’t that the mutant beast from the news today?”

”So this mutant beast is the boss!”

At Shi Feng’s reminder, it dawned on the others. No wonder it looked so familiar.

”Then...what’s its weak point?” Feng He asked. The news article hadn’t mentioned any weaknesses.

’How are we supposed to kill it?’

”If we don’t know, we’ll just saturate it with firepower,” Gu Wenkai answered. ”I refuse to believe it can survive that.”

They had found the King; now it was time to capture the King.

The five of them left the tent, holding the old-fashioned F-460 rifles in their hands.

Once outside, they looked at the war-torn landscape and, for a moment, were at a loss for what to do.

Mutant beasts clashed with Single Pilot Mechas on the ground, while Mechas battled mutant beasts in the air.

But death is unavoidable in war. They watched as a Steel Beast’s claw slashed down, splattering a soldier’s blood across the ground.

After glancing down at their own crude gear, the group exchanged a look and silently retreated back inside.

”Our weapons are useless,” Mo Xuan lamented, stroking the rifle in his hands.

”Yeah. Trying to help with these is worse than just staying here and not causing trouble,” Shi Feng agreed.

Lin Jingjing glanced around the tent and noticed several boxes stacked in a corner.

She walked over, opened one, and found a heavy sniper rifle inside.

She picked up the heavy sniper rifle for a closer look and saw that it was the latest model.

Its power was immense. A single shot could blow the head off any mutant beast—even a Steel Beast.

’This thing is seriously powerful.’

She counted the boxes: five contained rifles, and the one at the very bottom was full of ammunition.

’In that case, we’ll provide long-range support.’

Lin Jingjing turned to the others and asked, ”You haven’t forgotten how to use a sniper rifle, have you?”

The four of them shook their heads. When they were young, they had started out by shooting small birds with slingshots.

Among them, Lin Jingjing was still the most accurate shot.

That was why when she joined the Armed Police Force, she immediately became a sniper.

You could say she was a sharpshooter who never missed.

The others had grown up with Lin Jingjing, and even Shi Feng, the worst shot among them, was still highly skilled.

Each of them took a sniper rifle. After quickly reading the manual, Lin Jingjing took the solid silver rifle and headed out of the tent.

She scanned her surroundings, then found a high spot and set up the sniper rifle.

Once everything was ready, Lin Jingjing lay prone on the ground, carefully adjusting the rifle’s scope.

After aiming at the head of a mutant beast that was about to attack someone, Lin Jingjing took a deep breath and pulled the trigger.

’The sniper rifle’s recoil isn’t strong. Compared to the weapons from my past life, this is far too light.’

A long bullet shot out. It was so fast that within seconds, it blew the mutant beast’s head clean off.

The mutant beast’s head was turned to pulp, though the rest of its corpse was completely intact.

The sniper rifle’s power was so immense that the single shot also tore through half the bodies of two more mutant beasts charging up from behind.

All from a single shot.

Lin Jingjing looked through her scope, her eyes widening at the sight.

’Is it really this powerful?’

The others, who had been watching her, nodded. The operation was simple; they understood now.

”Find a high spot and provide support,” Lin Jingjing said. Then she added a reminder, ”This gun’s extremely powerful. Be careful not to hit our own people.”

After she spoke, Lin Jingjing’s gaze landed on Shi Feng. He pointed a finger and said, ”Especially you, Xiao Shi.”

”I’m most worried about your marksmanship.”

Shi Feng, having been called out, rubbed his head and said, ”I promise I won’t hit any friendlies.”

”Spread out,” Lin Jingjing said finally.

”Yes!”

The four of them split up. After they each found a suitable sniping position, they began to provide support.

The five of them observed through their scopes, ready to help wherever the line was about to break.

Mutant beasts were dropping dead for no apparent reason. The frontline soldiers thought it was strange, but when they looked around, they couldn’t see who was helping them.

They were puzzled, but in a moment like this, there was no time to investigate further.

They just picked up their weapons and continued to charge forward.

Lin Jingjing kept searching the horde for that pure white mutant beast, but after a full scan, she couldn’t find it.

’Where did that mutant beast go?’
