I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 138: Chapter 136: A Glimpse of the Scene

It was past midnight.

Shen Shilan finally heard the sound of the door opening.

Sitting in the living room, she looked toward the entrance.

A moment later, Qin Chengyuan walked into the living room. ”Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

Shen Shilan looked at him without a word.

Qin Chengyuan walked over to her. ”I heard about the case at Jinghai University. Were you frightened?”

Shen Shilan looked up at him. ”The Municipal Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division hired a consultant, right? A young woman.”

Qin Chengyuan thought for a moment. ”Yes. What’s wrong?”

”Have you met her?” Shen Shilan asked.

Qin Chengyuan didn’t know why she was suddenly asking about this, but he answered her first. ”I haven’t met her yet.”

When Zhuang Yanzheng went to apply for her special consultant status,

he had looked over many of the cases the young woman had been involved in.

After understanding her abilities, he had indeed wanted to meet her before reporting it to his superiors.

But he had been too busy, so the matter was temporarily set aside.

His superiors had instructed him to keep matters like special abilities confidential.

So, although he was surprised by it, he never mentioned it at home.

Shen Shilan slowly lowered her gaze.

Qin Chengyuan crouched down, looked at her, and took her hand. It was cold.

He took both of her hands in his. ”Shilan, what is it? Did you see that young woman today? What about her?”

Shen Shilan looked up at him again. ”Do you think...”

”What?”

”Could Le Yan still be alive?” Shen Shilan suddenly gripped his hand.

Qin Chengyuan’s pupils trembled. He looked at her nervously, thinking that she missed their daughter so much that her mental state was suffering.

He slowly stroked her hand. ”Shilan, calm down, calm down. Don’t let your imagination run wild.”

”I’m serious,” Shen Shilan said. ”Is it possible she’s still out there, but we just can’t recognize her? And she doesn’t recognize us either.”

Qin Chengyuan’s eyes filled with worry, and he couldn’t bring himself to speak.

Shen Shilan said, ”Cheng Yuan, I think Le Yan is still alive.”

Qin Chengyuan’s lips moved. After a moment of silence, he still said, ”Shilan, we saw Le Yan’s... with our own eyes.”

In the end, he couldn’t say it.

He didn’t dare to think about it himself, nor did he dare to upset Shen Shilan.

After she fell from the cliff into the river, it took three days of searching to find Qin Leyan’s body.

They went to identify the body.

They both saw it with their own eyes...

Qin Chengyuan’s eyes turned a little red.

Shen Shilan looked at him. ”Cheng Yuan, when you have time, could you go meet that consultant from the Municipal Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division?”

Qin Chengyuan remembered.

The young woman’s name was Su Miaoyi.

It was the same name as the identity Le Yan used when she went undercover.

’Is it the name that’s reminding her of Le Yan?’

”When you have time, go see her.” Shen Shilan’s tears began to fall.

”Shilan, I’ve seen that young woman’s file,” Qin Chengyuan said, wiping her tears. ”She’s the eldest daughter of the Ji family—the one who was raised by his relatives.”

Shen Shilan’s tears fell even harder.

Qin Chengyuan pulled out two tissues.

She took them and pressed them to her eyes.

Qin Chengyuan gently patted her back.

After crying for a while, Shen Shilan said again, ”When you have time, go see her. Go see her.”

Seeing her insistence, Qin Chengyuan nodded. ”Alright, I’ll go see her when I have time.”

...

「The Municipal Bureau.」

”We got in touch! We got in touch with Lu Qiaoqiao!” Qi Feng suddenly shouted.

Su Miaoyi, who had been leaning back in her chair asleep, shot upright at the sound of his voice.

Her brain hadn’t fully booted up yet, but her mouth asked the first question, ”Where?”

As she spoke, she glanced at the time.

’I remember looking at the time before I fell asleep. It’s been... two minutes.’

”At Jinghai University,” Qi Feng said. ”She went back to school early this morning, turned her phone on, and we were able to contact her.”

”Su Miaoyi, you go to Jinghai University with Qi Feng and the others,” Zhuang Yanzheng said.

”Okay,” Qi Feng replied.

But Su Miaoyi didn’t move.

Qi Feng strode out of the office area, but when he saw Su Miaoyi hadn’t moved, he stopped.

Zhuang Yanzheng walked over to Su Miaoyi’s workstation.

Su Miaoyi had just snapped out of it.

She sucked in a breath and touched her abdomen.

”What is it?” Zhuang Yanzheng asked. ”Did you see something?”

Su Miaoyi nodded. ”I saw a young woman.”

”Not Lu Qiaoqiao?” Zhuang Yanzheng asked.

”Right.” Su Miaoyi stood up. ”I’m going to find Lu Zhishen.”

Zhuang Yanzheng looked at Qi Feng. ”Take two people and go to Jinghai University yourself.”

”Got it.” Qi Feng left.

「The Sketch Artist’s Room.」

Su Miaoyi knocked and entered.

Lu Zhishen turned around.

Their eyes met for a moment.

”Look at those dark circles,” Su Miaoyi said. ”The people in our bureau could just come here to see a panda.”

Lu Zhishen glanced at the dark smudges under her eyes and grabbed his drawing board and paper. ”Pulled another all-nighter?”

”Yep.” Su Miaoyi sat on the sofa. ”Insomnia again?”

”Yeah.” Lu Zhishen sat down across from her. ”Go ahead.”

Su Miaoyi described the face of the young woman she had seen in her vision.

She had seen it through the victim’s eyes.

But she wasn’t sure if it was from Wen Zouyu’s perspective or Guan Yang’s.

Because the victim seemed to have been in a dazed state at the time.

Dizzy, limbs numb, completely unable to move.

Su Miaoyi thought the feeling was very much like being extremely sleepy.

But the intense pain from their abdomen forced them to open their eyes.

She saw the young woman gripping a fruit knife with both hands, raising it, and then stabbing down violently.

She only saw the woman make that one stab before passing out.

After that, the vision went dark, and she was pulled out of it.

It was a very brief vision.

However, before she saw the woman bring the knife down in the vision, the victim had already been stabbed several times in the abdomen. It was the pain that had brought them to a state of partial consciousness, allowing them to see that brief scene.

Once the sketch was finished, Su Miaoyi gave it to Zhuang Yanzheng.

They quickly found a match in the system.

Zeng Shuang, female, twenty-three years old, a graduate of Jinghai University, currently working in Jinghai.

”Captain Zhuang.” Yan Cheng came over with the lab report. ”Both Wen Zouyu and Guan Yang tested positive for alcohol and triazolam.”

Zhuang Yanzheng took the report and glanced at it.

”You need a prescription from a doctor to buy that drug, right?” Su Miaoyi asked.

”Doctors rarely prescribe triazolam. It has hypnotic and sedative effects, and it’s generally used to treat insomnia, but the side effects are too severe. It’s risky, highly addictive, and a controlled psychotropic drug,” Yan Cheng explained.

”It’s also an illicit drug,” Zhuang Yanzheng said. ”It’s also known as a ’date rape drug.’ It takes effect quickly, causing dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, and total weakness. It can even cause temporary amnesia. Buying this drug illegally is a crime.”

”Both Wen Zouyu and Guan Yang had it in their systems,” Su Miaoyi said. ”That matches the feeling I empathized with in the vision.”

”You saw something?” Yan Cheng asked.

Su Miaoyi nodded and showed him Zeng Shuang’s information.

Zhuang Yanzheng said, ”Bring Zeng Shuang in first.”

”It’s a woman?” Yan Cheng said. ”The surveillance at the dorm entrance has no blind spots and wasn’t broken, but it didn’t capture any women entering or leaving the building.”

”There’s a side door on the first floor of the dorm, but there are no cameras near it,” Su Miaoyi said. ”The dorm manager said that door is kept locked year-round, but if someone wanted to get through there, they’d find a way.”

”Have Qi Feng check the surveillance footage from around the dorm again,” Zhuang Yanzheng said as he called Qi Feng.

Aside from the cameras at the dorm entrance, the other nearby surveillance was difficult to screen. With so many people coming and going, both male and female, it was hard to lock onto a specific individual.

But now that they had a specific person...

”The blood from the dorm’s bathroom sink yielded DNA from both Wen Zouyu and Guan Yang,” Yan Cheng said. ”Only their two sets of fingerprints were found on the fruit knife, and all the blood on it was theirs as well.”

”In the vision I saw, the woman was wearing gloves,” Su Miaoyi said. ”When she staged the scene, she made the corpse grip the dagger.”
