I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 135: Chapter 133: Meeting Jiang Junrui Again

Su Miaoyi went home to rest. She had been asleep for just over two hours when her phone woke her up.

It was a call from Jiang Junrui.

He wanted to meet her at the restaurant across from her residential district.

Su Miaoyi got out of bed and took her phone with her to the bathroom to wash up.

There were a few messages on her phone.

They were from Cheng Jue.

The art school exam results were out.

Third place for Jinghai Film Academy.

Second place for the Drama College.

The results from the other schools hadn’t been released yet.

But if she could get into these two schools in Jinghai, she wouldn’t even consider the others.

She had only applied to the other schools as a safety net anyway.

Su Miaoyi felt like she’d finally heard some good news.

While washing up, she called Ge Yu and chatted for a bit.

Then she left to meet Jiang Junrui.

The restaurant was mostly empty at this time of day.

Still, Jiang Junrui had chosen a private room.

After sitting down, Su Miaoyi said, ”Mr. Jiang, what is this meeting about?”

”My father would like to meet you,” Jiang Junrui said.

Su Miaoyi frowned.

A gentle smile played on Jiang Junrui’s lips. ”To be precise, he wants to meet your parents, or your aunt and uncle.”

”What for?”

”To discuss our marriage,” said Jiang Junrui.

Su Miaoyi tried her best to control her expression, but a muscle in her cheek still twitched.

”Didn’t you say last time, Miss Su, that if you had something important, you’d want the Fengjiang Group?” Jiang Junrui said. ”It’s simple. All we have to do is get married.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Su Miaoyi suddenly saw a series of images in his eyes.

It was Mo Xiaoxiao.

She saw him gripping Mo Xiaoxiao’s face, asking, ”Why did you record those videos? How many did you record? What did you see?”

Mo Xiaoxiao looked him in the eye. ”You don’t know what you’ve done? What have you been running underneath that pool hall? You know better than anyone.”

”And all those women, you think I can’t guess what dirty business you’re into? And Shao Dong and Cao Hong—drug trafficking. I have proof you’re the one behind it. And those thugs your family keeps, the hospital you built... I have videos of everything you’ve done!”

Jiang Junrui’s grip on her tightened.

”Mr. Jiang, we found the videos. These three memory cards are full of footage she shot,” Cao Hong said, standing beside him.

Jiang Junrui glanced at the video playing. ”Mo Xiaoxiao, you’re asking to die!”

”You’re the one who crossed me first!” Mo Xiaoxiao screamed. ”I’ve been with you since college! What, you’re tired of me now? Found another college student to replace me? Dream on! You have to marry me, or else... I’ll release all these videos! If it comes to it, we’ll die together!”

Jiang Junrui took a deep breath. ”Know your place. I can tolerate your usual tantrums, but threatening me with this? What do you take me for? Cao Hong, destroy all the videos.”

”Yes, sir.”

”Go ahead and destroy them,” Mo Xiaoxiao said. ”I’ve backed everything up. I already had a friend take them away.”

Jiang Junrui froze for two seconds, then his hand shot to her neck. ”Which friend? The one who caused a scene at the clubhouse?”

”Marry me, and I’ll tell you,” Mo Xiaoxiao said with a smile. ”Marry me. I promise I’ll get the videos back immediately and make sure they don’t leak.”

Jiang Junrui raised a hand and slapped her across the face.

Mo Xiaoxiao cried out, ”Jiang Junrui! If I die, the videos will definitely be released! If you want to protect the Jiang family, your only choice is to marry me.”

”Then you can die with your friend,” Jiang Junrui said. ”At this moment, is she on a plane back to Jinghai? Don’t worry. She’ll be dead before she even hears the news of your death.”

”Jiang Junrui! You can’t do this to me!” Mo Xiaoxiao screamed.

Jiang Junrui said to Cao Hong, ”If she doesn’t talk, kill her.”

”Yes, sir.”

Jiang Junrui left.

Mo Xiaoxiao screamed his name over and over until her voice was completely cut off.

”Miss Su? Miss Su?” Jiang Junrui waved a hand in front of Su Miaoyi’s face.

Su Miaoyi snapped back to reality and looked at him.

”Are you... all right?” Jiang Junrui asked.

Su Miaoyi slowly exhaled and leaned back in her chair.

’What’s wrong?’

’I just saw you murder someone.’

’You’re finished.’

So that was the relationship between Mo Xiaoxiao and Jiang Junrui.

Su Miaoyi took another slow breath. ”It’s nothing. I’ve been staying up too late, my brain’s a little fuzzy. What were you just saying?”

”I was asking if there are any customs in Jinghai we should be aware of when our parents meet,” said Jiang Junrui.

Su Miaoyi blinked. ’We’re already at that step?’

”Mr. Jiang, did you know? Mo Xiaoxiao and I were friends. The first time we met was only because I went to Fengjiang Clubhouse for her,” Su Miaoyi said. ”I know about your past relationship with her.”

Jiang Junrui looked at her.

Su Miaoyi said, ”How could I marry my friend’s boyfriend? Don’t you think? My conscience wouldn’t be clear.”

”Then how do you plan to get the Fengjiang Group?” Jiang Junrui asked, half-serious and half-joking.

”Mr. Jiang, I think you’ve misunderstood. When I first said I wanted the Fengjiang Group, wasn’t that under a hypothetical situation?” Su Miaoyi said with a smile. ”Why are you taking it so seriously?”

A flicker of movement crossed Jiang Junrui’s eyes. He was finding he really couldn’t understand the person in front of him.

Su Miaoyi smiled again. ”After all... one’s life is the most important thing. Staying alive is what matters most.”

”What do you mean by that?” Jiang Junrui asked with a smile.

”The more you know, the faster you die, just like Mo Xiaoxiao,” Su Miaoyi said. ”And I’d like to live for a few more decades.”

Jiang Junrui’s heart skipped a beat as he tried to figure out her meaning. ”So to stay alive, one must consider things more carefully.”

Su Miaoyi nodded. ”And the prerequisite for being careful is that I have to be alive, right?”

Jiang Junrui narrowed his eyes. She was referring to when Zheng Hui tried to kill her. ”Of course.”

”As long as I can stay alive, that’s what counts,” Su Miaoyi said. ”Only by staying alive can things move forward, right?”

Jiang Junrui smiled. ”Yes.”

It was a tacit agreement: Jiang Junrui wouldn’t kill her, and Su Miaoyi would reconsider his request.

Leaving the restaurant, Su Miaoyi started walking toward the Weiyang Palace District.

As she walked, she said, ”That was too dangerous just now. What if Jiang Junrui had stabbed me while I was unresponsive from seeing those images...”

”Then you would have died again,” the voice in her head replied calmly.

”’Again.’ You’re so calm about it,” Su Miaoyi said.

”It’s not like you haven’t died before.”

The corner of Su Miaoyi’s mouth twitched. ”What kind of Hell-level joke is that? I seriously want to kick you a mile away.”

”What if you just came back to life again?” the voice in her head asked.

”Do you think you have infinite lives or an unlimited supply of resurrection cards?” Su Miaoyi retorted.

The voice in her head went silent.

Su Miaoyi said, ”This Special Ability is great and all, but I feel like it really burns through lives.”

”Have you ever considered that coming back to life might have a cost?” the voice in her head said.

Su Miaoyi opened her mouth, then paused to think. ”You know, you have a point.”
