I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 126: Chapter 124: Who Are You?

”This tea smells wonderful,” Su Miaoyi said.

Zhuang Yanzheng and Shen Yanzhou exchanged a glance.

Shen Yanzhou said, ”Take some back with you.”

Su Miaoyi looked at Zhuang Yanzheng.

Zhuang Yanzheng said, ”Take as much as you want. Put it on his tab.”

”So stingy,” Shen Yanzhou said, looking at him.

Zhuang Yanzheng said, ”It’s your money. It’d be a waste not to take advantage.”

Su Miaoyi drank her tea quietly, not joining in on their bickering.

After a moment, Zhuang Yanzheng’s phone rang.

He answered the call, and his expression turned serious as he listened to the person on the other end.

He stood up and asked, ”What’s their condition?”

After the other person finished speaking, he added, ”Alright, I’m on my way.”

He hung up.

Su Miaoyi asked, ”Is it a case?”

”Huang Haoxu committed suicide,” Zhuang Yanzheng said. ”He was just sent to the hospital. I’m afraid it doesn’t look good.”

”How could that happen?” Su Miaoyi asked.

’People like him are supposed to be under close watch.’

”During his meal, he used a spoon to slit his throat,” Zhuang Yanzheng said.

”A plastic spoon?” Su Miaoyi was shocked.

’The spoons they provide for meals are plastic.’

Zhuang Yanzheng nodded. ”I’m going to go check it out.”

”I’ll go with you,” Su Miaoyi said, getting up.

”This is just asking for a reprimand. You should stay out of it.” Zhuang Yanzheng left as soon as he finished speaking.

After watching him leave, Su Miaoyi sat back down.

’She was still in shock.’

’What kind of technique would that take?’

’The speed, the force, and the absolute resolve to go through with it.’

After leaving the restaurant, Jiang Junrui returned to his residence in Jinghai.

He had just sat down in his study when there was a knock on the door.

”Come in.”

A man walked in.

Jiang Junrui glanced at him.

The man stepped forward and stood before the desk. ”Young Master, what did Su Miaoyi say?”

Jiang Junrui leaned back in his chair, hearing the form of address, and looked at him. ”She said she wants Fengjiang Group.”

The man frowned, shocked and incredulous, as if he’d just heard the biggest joke in the world. ”How dare she ask for that?”

Jiang Junrui raised an eyebrow and smiled.

’Just as she said, it would be extremely difficult, but it’s possible.’

The man looked at him, paused, and made a throat-slitting gesture. ”This is Mr. Jiang’s order.”

Jiang Junrui looked at him. ”And then what? Where would we find the backup copy of the video? Can you find it?”

The man said nothing.

”If we can’t find the backup, we kill Su Miaoyi, and then a second person shows up to threaten Fengjiang with the video, is that it? If she disappears, will the video disappear with her?” Jiang Junrui demanded.

He continued, staring at the man before him, ”It’s not like you haven’t tried before. Zheng Hui, this is the mess you and Cao Hong made!”

Zheng Hui slowly lowered his head.

”You came to Jinghai, said you ’handled’ the person, but you never found the video,” Jiang Junrui said.

”Fine, okay. Your timing in Jinghai was perfect. Su Miaoyi arrived in Jinghai in the afternoon, and by that evening, you went to Jinrong District to ’handle’ the person. She probably didn’t have time to make more copies of the video. That was the best opportunity.”

”But what happened! Is this what you call ’leaving no trace’ and a ’clean job’?!”

”’No trace left behind,’ yet you left me a living, breathing person? A person who was only discovered months later? In a few months, how many copies of that video could have been made? How many people’s hands could it have fallen into?”

”If she had handed that video over directly, do you think Fengjiang Group would still be standing today?” Jiang Junrui said sharply.

Zheng Hui frowned. ”It is strange. When have Cao Hong and I ever failed?”

Jiang Junrui didn’t speak, taking a moment to calm himself.

After a moment of silence, the man said, ”But it’s been so long, and she hasn’t made any demands. She just waited for us to come to her. And after we did, she’s still stringing us along, refusing to state her terms?”

”Are you really going to marry her? Do you think she’ll just hand over the video if you do? She’ll only become more demanding. She’s doing this to test our limits.”

”Who does she think she is, to be worthy of entering the Jiang family’s door? Mr. Jiang would never agree.”

”The only way now is to drag her down with us, to make sure she’s in the same boat as Fengjiang Group,” Jiang Junrui said. ”If something happens to Fengjiang Group, she won’t survive either. I will make her hand over the video. You two stay out of this.”

Zheng Hui didn’t respond.

”Also, I’m the one in charge of Fengjiang Group now. There is only one Mr. Jiang.” Jiang Junrui stared at him. ”Understand?”

Zheng Hui looked at him, then lowered his head and said, ”Yes.”

”Lay low for a while,” Jiang Junrui said. ”The people in Jiangcheng already suspect you’re not dead, and they’re looking for you. Be careful. Don’t end up like Cao Hong.”

”Yes.”

*

In the afternoon, the sky turned overcast. It was dark and oppressive. This time of year, it should be raining, but the forecast was calling for snow instead.

It was damp and cold.

The whiteboard Su Miaoyi had ordered online arrived.

She set up the whiteboard and began to organize the clues.

She started with Fengjiang Group.

Jiang Yaozu and Zheng Hui, who had supposedly died in a car accident.

All signs pointed to Lu Zhishen’s parents.

Then there was Jiang Junrui and Mo Xiaoxiao. There had to be some kind of relationship between them.

’Mo Xiaoxiao must have had a reason for recording that video.’

’Did she want something from Jiang Junrui?’

As she thought, Su Miaoyi wrote her own name on the whiteboard.

’After Mo Xiaoxiao knew I had arrived in Jiangcheng, she invited me to the Fengjiang Clubhouse. Was that so she could give me the backup video?’

Su Miaoyi drew a question mark under her name.

Mo Xiaoxiao was dead. Before she died, she said she gave the video to a friend.

Cao Hong said she was the only friend they could find.

Cao Hong also said that when they came to Jinghai, they had searched her apartment in Jinrong District.

’But if I were Jiang Junrui or Jiang Yaozu, the first thing I would have ordered Cao Hong to do upon his arrival in Jinghai was to eliminate me.’

’To get rid of the problem for good.’

’So what happened when Cao Hong came to Jinghai?’

’What have I forgotten?’

Su Miaoyi drew another question mark under her name.

’Besides, if Mo Xiaoxiao really did give me the video, where would she have put it?’

’I can’t find it.’

’Does this video even exist?’

There was another question.

Cao Hong said that after he killed Mo Xiaoxiao, his subordinate handled her body.

’Then whose body did I see being buried through Cao Hong’s eyes?’

Dark clouds gathered in the sky.

The room grew darker and darker.

Su Miaoyi stared at the clues she had laid out on the whiteboard.

She felt the world in front of her growing dim.

It was as if the black clouds were pressing down on her.

”Are you truly unable to figure it out, or are you just too afraid to think about it?” a voice suddenly echoed in her head.

Su Miaoyi’s brow twitched. ”What are you trying to say?”

”Who are you?” the voice in her head asked abruptly.

”I’m Su Miaoyi, of course. Who else could I be?”

”Are you?” the voice in her head pressed. ”Are you really? Just because you have Su Miaoyi’s memories, does that make you her? Just because you’re using her identity, does that make you her?”
