I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 112: Chapter 110: Bizarre Things

”How many times did you get a room with that woman this month? You think I don’t know?!” The woman was furious, but she kept her voice low, worried her daughter might hear. ”What is it? You come home today asking for a divorce—is it because that woman finally agreed to be with you?”

”The sight of you makes me sick. I can’t wait to get a divorce and stay far, far away from a scumbag like you! But you’re leaving with nothing! Everything, especially the house and our child, must be mine.”

”In your dreams,” the man said. ”My parents paid for all of this. On what grounds should I give it all to you?!”

”As a husband, as a father! You’ve let things get to this point, and you still have the nerve to talk to me about ’on what grounds’?” the woman said. ”You’ve failed me, and you’ve failed our child. Even if you were dead, all of this would belong to my daughter!”

”That little burden? Even if I were dead, I wouldn’t give her a single penny,” the man suddenly yelled.

The woman stared at him, so furious and shocked she forgot to react for a moment.

”How much money have we spent on her since she was born? How much has this family spent on that sickness of hers?” the man yelled. ”And after spending all that money, how long will she even live? Will she even make it to eighteen? She’s just a money pit, doomed to die young.”

”What did you say?! What did you say?!” the woman suddenly screamed.

The man said, ”I said she’s a money pit! Doomed to die young!”

The woman lunged forward, slapped the man across the face, then grabbed his head and started clawing at him.

The man fought back, grabbing the woman by her hair and slamming her head against the wall.

He slammed her head against it three times, hard. The moment he let go, the woman collapsed to the floor.

She watched all of this through the crack in the door. Pushing it open, she rushed in and threw her arms around the man’s waist, pulling him back with all her might. ”Daddy, don’t hit Mommy! Don’t hit Mommy!”

The man flung her aside.

She fell to the floor and couldn’t immediately get back up.

The man then picked up a bronze statue from a cabinet and brought it crashing down on the woman’s head.

She scrambled to her feet, grabbed a vase from the table, and smashed it over the man.

Stunned by the blow, the man turned his head to look at her.

Then, he lunged forward and seized her by the neck.

He squeezed. Tighter, and tighter, relentlessly.

Her hands beat against his arms, over and over, until her strength faded bit by bit and her hands fell limp at her sides...

Sketches of the murderer and the victim.

Su Miaoyi and Lu Zhishen had spent some time on them.

Once the sketches were finished, Lu Zhishen took them to run a search in the system.

Su Miaoyi sat for a little longer in the entryway before changing her shoes and heading into the living room.

Once in the living room, she set the water bottle she’d been holding onto the coffee table. Only then did she really look at it.

’What a unique bottle.’

’Could this be...?’

She used her phone to do a visual search for the bottle.

Then she looked up the price.

After seeing the result, she swallowed hard.

’How much money did I just gulp down...?’

’Capitalist.’

Speak of the devil—a message arrived from the capitalist himself.

He was asking if she was finished with her work.

She replied that she was.

Soon after, there was a knock at the door.

Su Miaoyi went to open the door and found Shen Yanzhou standing outside, holding a pair of... slippers.

”Is this the latest fashion statement in your high-society circles?” Su Miaoyi asked.

”Is it a good time for me to come in?” Shen Yanzhou asked.

Su Miaoyi stepped aside to let him in.

Shen Yanzhou entered the apartment, set down the slippers, and changed into them.

”A guest who brings his own slippers,” Su Miaoyi remarked.

Shen Yanzhou chuckled, walking farther into the room and sitting on the sofa.

Su Miaoyi sat down opposite him.

With no preamble whatsoever, Shen Yanzhou asked directly, ”You can see the murderers in these cases, can’t you?”

With all his coming and going, Su Miaoyi knew this was what he was after.

In fact, she figured he had already guessed back when he drove her to the municipal bureau before the New Year holiday.

Su Miaoyi didn’t answer.

”What’s wrong? Is that ’limited words per day’ affliction of yours acting up again?” Shen Yanzhou asked.

Su Miaoyi raised a hand to scratch her eyebrow.

”Looks like I was right,” Shen Yanzhou said. ”To think something so bizarre could actually exist in this world.”

Su Miaoyi pressed her lips together. ”If it weren’t happening to me, I wouldn’t believe this kind of thing was possible either.”

Shen Yanzhou watched her, silent for a moment, before saying calmly, ”We probably only find it bizarre because we haven’t truly comprehended the world.”

Hearing this, Su Miaoyi was taken aback.

’Wow, things are getting deep.’

Shen Yanzhou continued, ”If something like this can happen, then resurrection might be possible too, right?”

Su Miaoyi was baffled.

Shen Yanzhou just looked at her.

Su Miaoyi frowned.

’Her own situation was bizarre, sure, but resurrection was taking it a step too far, wasn’t it?’

Besides, the last time she’d heard the word ”resurrection,” it had come from Zhuang Yanzheng.

Neither of them spoke.

The two of them just stared at each other.

Suddenly, a ringtone shattered the silence.

A flicker went through Shen Yanzhou’s eyes. He let the phone ring for a few moments before taking it out and answering.

After a few terse affirmations, he hung up.

He sat on the sofa in silence for another moment before saying, ”Something came up with work, so I’ll have to cut my visit short today.”

Su Miaoyi thought for a moment. ”I suppose this is the part where I’m supposed to be polite and say something like, ’Please come again next time.’”

”I’ll be coming by often,” Shen Yanzhou said.

”I won’t be welcoming you often,” Su Miaoyi retorted.

Shen Yanzhou looked at her.

Su Miaoyi broke into a smile. ”Kidding, kidding. I’m not that kind of person. The most I’d do is just not open the door for you.”

Shen Yanzhou raised a hand to rap her on the head, but Su Miaoyi dodged nimbly, the movement surprisingly practiced.

For a moment, they both looked startled.

Then Shen Yanzhou let out a soft huff.

Su Miaoyi smiled and saw him out.

’It really does seem like he plans on being a frequent visitor.’

He hadn’t taken his ”high-society fashion statement”—the slippers—with him.

Su Miaoyi returned to the living room.

She sat on the sofa, staring at the water bottle and mulling over the strange feelings she’d been having.

She felt a sense of security around Shen Yanzhou, even a kind of intimacy. On a subconscious level, she seemed to be very familiar with him.

And Shen Yanzhou, in turn, seemed to treat her differently as well.

’Is it because I look so much like Qin Leyan?’

As these thoughts ran through her mind, Su Miaoyi asked after a moment, ’Are you there?’

After a few seconds of silence, the voice in her head replied, ’Mm.’

’Do you know Shen Yanzhou?’ Su Miaoyi asked.

After a few seconds of silence, the cold voice replied with what sounded like a hint of resignation, ’I don’t remember.’

’You don’t remember?’ Su Miaoyi frowned.

’I have no memories. I only remember things from last August, starting from when that streamer was murdered upstairs in the Jinrong District building.’

Su Miaoyi was shocked. She had never asked about this before.

’Its memory is that short?’

’Then who are you?’ Su Miaoyi asked.

There was no response.

’Who are you?’ Su Miaoyi asked again.

Still no response.

’Are you still there? Hello? Hello? Hello?!’

The voice did not answer again...
