Chapter 1395: Chapter 17: Nullified

The sense of crisis and malice coming from all directions was seriously interfering with the judgment of his intuition ability.

Before that pervasive sense of crisis appeared, Su Xiao could use his intuition ability to precisely catch the enemy’s movements; but after it appeared, it was as if everything within a hundred meters wanted to attack Su Xiao.

Su Xiao’s gaze stayed locked on Monroe. Strangely, he could see Monroe with his naked eyes, yet in his perception, Monroe seemed to not exist.

”Illusion.”

Su Xiao cleaved forward out of thin air. The Blade Aura left the edge and slashed straight toward Monroe.

The Blade Aura pierced through Monroe’s body and buried itself directly into the wall behind him.

”Under Fate’s arrangement, you can no longer hurt me.”

Monroe walked toward Su Xiao at a relaxed pace, golden footprints appearing wherever he stepped. The gold radiance on his body became even more dazzling.

With a swish, slash marks suddenly appeared on the stones and furniture near Su Xiao; the cut surfaces were smooth as mirrors—these were his earlier cleaves.

Seeing those broken stones and furniture, Su Xiao judged that the Monroe in front of him wasn’t an Illusion. Not only that, the other party had indeed been hit by his slash; it was just that the cleave had been transferred elsewhere.

Based on Su Xiao’s experience, this should be some kind of Domain Ability. The Domain was roughly a hundred meters across; while inside it, Su Xiao’s Luck would plummet sharply, and when he attacked Monroe’s real body, Monroe would transfer the attacks he should have taken onto other things in the Domain, like nearby rubble, furniture, and so on.

This was a very tough ability to deal with. Su Xiao didn’t believe this kind of ability had no weakness at all. From his experience, once you found the weak point of an ability that looked ”unsolvable” like this, dismantling it became very simple.

Su Xiao leaped back several steps. In mid-leap, he flicked his left hand, and a few Alchemy Bombs flew out from his sleeve.

Seeing those Alchemy Bombs, Monroe, who had been walking forward slowly, frowned.

”Duds.”

Monroe pointed forward. The four Alchemy Bombs hit the ground and didn’t explode.

Su Xiao truly hadn’t expected the enemy to have this kind of flashy move. Monroe narrowed his eyes, staring straight at Su Xiao.

”So you’ve noticed already.”

Of course Monroe knew the weakness of his own Ability. He might look Invincible now, but that wasn’t the case. This 105-meter-radius ”Strong Luck Domain” couldn’t make him absolutely Invincible. Or rather, he wasn’t Invincible right now; instead, at the instant an attack was about to land on him, he transferred the attack he should bear onto other places within the Domain.

When the Damage he took reached a certain threshold, the surrounding Domain would collapse. Naturally, the Domain itself also had an upper limit it could withstand. After enduring a certain level of attacks, it would likewise collapse. Attacking Monroe’s body was the most efficient option; second best was attacking the Domain around him.

In fact, it was more accurate to describe this place as an independent Barrier. It was already isolated from the outside world. Before Su Xiao’s Luck recovered, he couldn’t leave here, and the Caster, Monroe, also couldn’t leave.

After condensing a large amount of Luck, Monroe didn’t try to fight Su Xiao in Close Combat like that Lucky Girl Su Xiao had once faced.

Monroe saw it very clearly. After evaluating his own combat effectiveness, he concluded that if he went Close Combat against Su Xiao, he’d be strung up and beaten in under two minutes.

Monroe had gathered the surrounding Luck onto himself, which was why he looked like a Heavenly God descending, his whole body aglow with gold. He was using Luck to fight. While within the Domain, his words were what was about to happen here.

For example, when he pointed at the Alchemy Bombs and said ”duds,” the Alchemy Bombs really did become duds. As the price, Monroe overdrafted some Luck.

”Blindness.”

Monroe spoke. The instant he opened his mouth, a searing pain flared on Su Xiao’s eyeballs.

Szz~

The Metal Wire tightened and whipped toward Monroe. The gold radiance around his body dimmed a little as the Boundary Line pierced through him.

The Boundary Line retracted back into the Wire Wheel. Su Xiao raised his left arm to shield his face, and the pain on his eyeballs vanished.

By this point in the fight, Su Xiao had basically figured out the enemy’s Ability. First, he was inside a Domain/Barrier. This Domain lowered his Luck and made everything around him exude Malice; but up till now, no real string of bad luck—no ”Soul Reaper is coming” scenario—had started. So this Malice could be ignored; it was very likely just a method the enemy used to suppress his Perception.

Second, while the enemy was inside this Barrier, he could use an Ability similar to ”Word and Law.” This Ability was very similar to that of a certain Alchemist from the Forbidden World of Magic, a technique called The Golden Danya Technique.

The Golden Danya Technique used personal conviction to change reality, whereas Monroe used Luck to change reality. That was how he could ignore Su Xiao’s cleaves.

This Ability looked powerful, but when Su Xiao used his own eyes as the wager, he found its weakness: when Monroe used this Ability, he couldn’t simultaneously maintain the attack-transfer Ability.

Moreover, when Monroe used Luck to change reality, both times he had stood still. Su Xiao didn’t know whether that was a weakness or something the other man did on purpose.

After roughly figuring out the enemy’s Ability, the ground under Su Xiao’s feet cracked, and he charged straight toward the edge of the Domain.

Obviously, brute-forcing it against the enemy inside the enemy’s own Domain was unwise.

Bang!

Su Xiao had just sprinted a few dozen meters when he slammed into an invisible wall.

Su Xiao shook his head. He hadn’t sensed any wall ahead, and the pain from the impact wasn’t very strong.

”Sluggish.”

Monroe spoke for the third time. Su Xiao immediately felt a force wrap around him—it was Gravity. Monroe’s Ability didn’t take effect out of thin air; he was using Luck to alter the surrounding environment.

The Alchemy Bombs had failed because their internal structure had been changed. The stabbing pain in Su Xiao’s eyes was because the moisture in his eye sockets had rapidly heated up. Now, Monroe had altered Gravity using Luck.

Boom, boom, boom...

Dirt and stones exploded under Su Xiao’s feet as he stomped craters into the ground. Seeing this, Monroe’s eye muscles twitched. Anyone who wasn’t a Power Type Contractor would find it hard to even move under Gravity suppression, let alone charge forward like this.

Monroe’s Ability would greatly cut the enemy’s Speed, but it had a drawback: when the enemy attacked, it was equivalent to them wearing Gravity Armor. If someone in that state hit him, in less than three strikes the surrounding Domain would be shattered.

”Dizziness.”

Monroe pointed at Su Xiao. The moment the words left his mouth, a Blade Aura slashed toward him. This was a Long Range attack—it wouldn’t get boosted by Gravity; in fact, it would be weakened.

Monroe’s masseter muscles bulged as he decided to take this one head-on.

A hum rang in Su Xiao’s skull. His head involuntarily pitched forward, a Blunt Attack thudding into the back of his head, like being smashed by an Air Hammer.

Splurt.

Blood exploded across Monroe’s chest. He had failed to be Immune to this Blade Aura; while using Luck to change reality, he couldn’t transfer the attack.

Monroe’s hands formed a hollow grip, and a massive Golden Light Ball appeared between his palms.

Hum!

A shrill buzzing spread out. Monroe compressed the Golden Light Ball in his hands to the size of an apple, terrifying energy roiling inside it.

Just as Monroe was about to fling the Light Ball, Su Xiao abruptly vanished from where he stood and appeared behind Monroe.

There was a hint of disbelief in Monroe’s eyes. His ”Dizziness” had never failed before—that was a Blunt Attack straight to the back of the head. Monroe had confirmed multiple times that Su Xiao was a pure Human, not someone with a special Bloodline.

”That’s impossible.”

Clang, clang, clang...

Dense cleaves pierced through Monroe’s body from all directions, silver threads tracing the air in their wake as Blue Steel Shadow Energy etched lines of cuts through the air.

With a crack, ”space” around them showed spiderweb fractures. Monroe gritted his teeth, and the Golden Light Ball in his hands detonated.

Boom!

Golden Light billowed outwards, plowing up a layer of ground. The ”space” around them completely shattered—or rather, Monroe’s Domain shattered; it wasn’t literal spatial Shattering.
