Chapter 1392: Chapter 14: You Bunch of Liars

hours later, within a nearly sealed underground chamber.

This underground room is about fifty square meters, with walls adorned with various instruments of torture. The ceiling vent fan rotates slowly, but the smell of blood inside the basement remains strong.

Two bloodied figures are hung up, one of them completely lifeless, transformed into a corpse.

”I am, Spike, Divine Court... Archbishop, twenty... six years old, male...”

Spike, with a body severely mutilated, is suspended, and due to both arms being severed, iron hooks are pierced where his arms were.

For the people from Los Zhi’s Eye, words such as sympathy and compassion hold no meaning. Completing tasks, pledging allegiance to Los Zhi’s Eye, and loyalty to the Geya Alliance, is more important than life.

Spike is a fanatic, but after being interrogated by an agent called Butcher from within Los Zhi’s Eye, he succumbed, confessing things like secretly watching his female neighbor bathe in childhood, and using his power for illicit relations with underage female believers. In the Sun Kingdom, a nation with a moral obsession, the latter is a capital offense, punishable by Stinging Whip.

The basement door is pushed open, Su Xiao and Sharin walk into the room.

”It’s ready, feel free to ask him whatever you want.”

A man wearing a black hood and dressed in a rubber slaughter suit is wiping off the torture devices—he is Butcher. He never shows his face, only Leizong knows his appearance.

Su Xiao examines Archbishop Spike of the Sun Kingdom, whose body is severely mutilated, obviously flayed alive, not dead from excessive blood loss, showcasing Butcher’s skilled techniques.

Su Xiao furrows his brow; he rarely interrogates enemies by destroying their physical body. Not only is the obtained intelligence not guaranteed accurate, the psychological impact cannot be overlooked. Although Su Xiao often kills enemies, he never tortures them, as he doesn’t see slaughter as something worth relishing—it’s just a means to an end, simple and brutal.

Su Xiao is interested in fighting enemies, as combat involves back-and-forth struggles, using intelligence to devise ways to kill the opponent. That feeling of life hanging by a thread causes many to become addicted; physical torture, however, is one-sided abuse, tedious.

Sharin, seeing Su Xiao’s frown, is quite surprised: ”I didn’t realize, the people from the Slaughter Troop are so compassionate?”

Hearing Sharin’s words, Su Xiao remains silent. Butcher, still arranging the torture tools, sneers coldly, somewhat contemptuous.

”Where is that item? If I’m not mistaken, it should resemble some kind of Formation Diagram.”

Su Xiao has seen spatial coordinates several times; secondary space coordinates might just be simpler in design.

”...”

Spike looks at Su Xiao with slight confusion.

”Answer his question.”

Butcher speaks, and upon hearing Butcher’s voice, Spike’s body trembles.

”I, I...”

Spike’s lips tremble; the lifeless eyes regain some sparkle. Seeing this, Butcher picks up a torture device.

”I will only, tell him one person.”

Spike looks at Su Xiao; he had given out much personal information earlier, but regarding the Sun Kingdom’s secrets, he only divulged a small part to minimize his suffering.

”Sorry, it seems it hasn’t reached the right moment.”

Butcher motions to step forward, Su Xiao turns his head towards him.

”Mister Bai Ye, please step outside first...”

Butcher abruptly stops mid-sentence, realizing that if he continues, he might die.

”Leave first.”

Sharin ’understands’ what happened; Archbishop Spike, after enduring torture, now only seeks quick relief. For Spike, the one who brought him endless pain, Butcher, has no right to acquire intelligence from him, whereas Su Xiao, who defeated him openly and honorably, does.

In Spike’s eyes, though both are enemies, if forced to relay intelligence to one of the two, he chooses the one who defeated him face to face—Su Xiao, not the mildly combative, device-wielding Butcher.

Sharin leaves the basement with a slightly displeased Butcher.

”It seems, I, made the wrong choice.”

Spike smiles, blood dripping off his jaw.

”Where.”

Blue Steel Shadow Energy gathers in Su Xiao’s hand, transforming into an Energy Shield, as he shapes it into a short knife.

”Aren’t you afraid I’ll deceive you?”

Spike continues to smile.

”If you keep on rambling, it’ll still be that hooded man discussing life with you. Answer in 3 seconds.”

The Energy Blade Short Knife flips in Su Xiao’s hand, seemingly ready to slash Spike’s throat at any moment.

”Jinbo Street, Fox Fortune Telling House.”

Spike’s body starts losing strength; a slight pricking sensation comes from the severed arms. He’s surprised to find the unbearable pain has vanished.

Su Xiao tosses aside the syringe, turning to leave the basement.

”Wait... wait, you haven’t killed me yet, where are you going, stop!”

Spike struggles hard, Su Xiao pauses his steps, slightly turning his head.

”Did I ever say I’d kill you?”

”You did before.”

Spike’s breaths are rapid.

”You’re right, so that was before, see you.”

”You...”

Spike feels a bit of despair.

With a bang, the basement door closes tightly. The next moment, Butcher pushes the door open. Through the crack, Spike sees Su Xiao and Butcher nod at each other—where’s the contempt, where’s the murderous intent?

At this moment, Spike realizes, Butcher’s sneering, the contempt towards Su Xiao, were all fake. With just a glance, these people engaged in silent communication and quickly formulated a plan.

Sharin, using her beautiful woman persona, slightly despises Su Xiao, meaning the Slaughter Troop are unexpectedly soft-hearted, whereas Butcher supports this, exaggerating the contempt towards Su Xiao.

This scene all falls into Archbishop Spike’s view. As a victim under Butcher, his spirit nearly collapsing, instinctively inclines towards Su Xiao’s ’disdained’ side. Both belong to ’disadvantaged groups’.

Because of this, Spike voices: ’I will only tell him one person.’

”The Slaughter Troop certainly lives up to its reputation.”

Butcher snickers menacingly.

”Rest assured, Archbishop, we won’t let you die, you’ll receive the best treatment. Comparing continued interrogation, you hold greater value.”

This time, Spike remained silent, refusing to trust anyone again.

Outside the basement, Su Xiao holds a map.

”What would be the result if combat happens on Jinbo Street.”

Su Xiao has found Jinbo Street’s location; this district is on Hot City’s east side, within the commercial area.

”Under no circumstances should we engage in battle there; it’s a commercial area, bullets will penetrate multiple walls, causing dozens or even hundreds of civilian casualties.”

Though Sharin is ruthless and heartless towards enemies, she possesses a strong sense of responsibility towards Hot City’s civilians. Although she is a special agent, her objective is to protect the Geya Alliance.

”Then let’s not use guns.”

”Huh?”

Sharin looks at Su Xiao in surprise, avoiding firearms against the Sun Kingdom is practically suicide.
