Chapter 1383: Chapter 5: Women and Liquor

The chaotic footsteps echoed through the corridor in front of the cell, and moments later, several soldiers dressed in black military uniforms with shiny leather shoes stood before the cell.

Clang, clang, clang.

One soldier struck the iron bars with the iron rod in his hand.

”Dinner’s ready.”

As he spoke, the other soldiers raised their rifles slung over their shoulders, aiming them at Su Xiao.

A sense of crisis that made Su Xiao’s hair stand on end emerged. He raised an eyebrow; those soldiers were holding single-shot rifles, styled similarly to Mauser rifles, requiring the bolt to be pulled for each shot—a one-shot pull bolt.

The outdated rifles surprisingly gave Su Xiao a sense of crisis, which left him slightly surprised. But he immediately thought of the world’s introduction of White Gunpowder and Patterned steel; if combined into firearms, their power would be absolutely terrifying.

Firearms are the main weapon used for war in this world. The aircraft technology isn’t considered mature here; they might crash due to some odd reason while flying, but the tanks in this world are quite advanced. After all, the two major countries are on the same plateau, with over 97% of the battlefield being on land.

Five rifles aimed at Su Xiao, and the five soldiers gradually backed away. The soldier who initially spoke opened the cell.

Creaaak~

The bearings squeaked sharply as the cell opened, and outside, the soldier waved his hand, ushering an old man with a wrinkled face pushing a food cart.

The old man’s legs weren’t fast, but he pushed the food cart into the cell and laid out several types of food on the bed: three large bowls of rice, one grilled fish, a large bowl of stew, a bowl of vegetable soup with floating egg flowers, and a fruit resembling an orange.

Su Xiao was somewhat dumbfounded; is the Freedom Country Prison’s meal this good?

Seeing the old man swallowing as he looked at the stew, Su Xiao immediately thought that the prison meal shouldn’t be this good.

”Hurry up!”

The soldier outside the cell wasn’t particularly patient, and the old man quickly pushed the cart out of the cell.

”You all can leave now.”

The soldier standing by the cell door seemed to be the squad leader. After the five armed soldiers walked away, he glanced at Su Xiao and chuckled.

The squad leader reached into his pocket, extending to his waist, and soon, he pulled out a bottle of wine from his jacket, which resembled glass bottle beer.

With a bang, the cell locked as the squad leader placed the bottle of wine inside the cell.

”Drink it all cleanly.”

Leaving this remark, the squad leader walked to one side of the corridor and disappeared from Su Xiao’s view.

Two dishes and a soup with ample rice, and on top of that, they provided wine and fruit after the meal.

From what the squad leader implied, alcohol is clearly banned for prisoners inside the prison. This kind of treatment made Su Xiao eager to know what exactly he did to end up in prison.

It’s rare for a Slaughter Troop member to be imprisoned, and this situation clearly shows that they not only received but favored treatment after imprisonment.

Su Xiao, who initially planned to jailbreak, was no longer in a hurry to leave, as being able to gain real power within the Freedom Country military could significantly aid his subsequent actions.

After testing the food and wine for poison, Su Xiao began eating slowly. During his leisure time, he checked the war task.

[War Task: World Core (First Ring, Total Two Rings)]

Difficulty Level: Lv. 38

Task Description: Find and obtain the location of the World Core.

Task Information: The Hunter’s current region temporarily does not require searching for the World Core; follow-up tasks are pending.

Task Duration: 30 natural days

Task Reward: World Struggle War victory visible.

Task Penalty: Forced execution.

...

For now, the task of seizing the World Core is unrelated to Su Xiao; his job is the chaotic contract battle during the war’s later stage, which is the most dangerous task.

Of course, Su Xiao wouldn’t wait in prison for the contract battle to start; he needs to leave here as soon as possible.

To leave via legitimate means, Su Xiao must first understand what his current identity did; if a serious crime was committed, then escaping prison will be the only option.

Moreover, the meal brought by those soldiers was too sumptuous, at least for prisoners, being overly luxurious. Could this possibly be a ”last meal”? It’s worth contemplating.

Su Xiao already had a basic understanding of the firearms in this world. Being hit by such firearms didn’t mean much bodily harm, mostly just injuries, but getting hit in a vital spot really isn’t a joke.

The single combat effectiveness is already like this; a battlefield filled with flying bullets is definitely at the Hell Level. Furthermore, Su Xiao checked those soldiers’ physical attributes, and these seemingly ordinary soldiers had power, agility, and stamina attributes at around 30 points each.

In a melee, Su Xiao could easily wipe out a troop, but if soldiers used this world’s unique firearms, a number exceeding 30 would be an undeniable combat force.

The power of that kind of firearm; walls can’t even be considered cover. It’s normal for one shot to pierce through a dozen walls.

Given the fierceness of firearms, how fierce must the steel tiger on land, the tank, be?

If the tank’s ammunition used White Gunpowder and the entire tank were made of Patterned steel, Su Xiao was sure that such a tank could shatter a Gundam in a short time.

On the battlefield, tank divisions aren’t uncommon; a swarm of tanks made of Patterned steel using White Gunpowder propelled weapons charging up could make a Fourth tier Adventure Team cry for help. This is an indestructible, unyielding force capable of bursting enemies into pieces with a single cannon shot.

In this world, individual power is weaker than military strength. The army sweeps everything, which is the reason nations exist. If individual power surpassed the military, numerous family-based ’sects’ would arise, laws wouldn’t be so intact, and the likelihood of technology developing would be low, as everyone would pursue ’immortality,’ leaving no one to study science.

This world follows a science mainstream; mysticism is overshadowed by technology. The Freedom Kingdom also has mysticism existing, generally involving curses, divination, light magic, etc.

Based on Su Xiao’s observation series, he feels this world is technologically similar to a World War II universe, at least its military level is comparable. The only difference is that the technology tree is somewhat skewed, with land weapons vastly outperforming those in air and marine.

After a hearty meal, Su Xiao picked up the bottle of wine, having no intention of drinking it. With an alcohol content of 75%, it’s a strong liquor, akin to the personalities of the Freedom Country people.

”If you’re not drinking that, give it to me.”

A female voice sounded; though Su Xiao sensed someone next door, he didn’t expect a female prisoner, indicating this prison isn’t an ordinary one. ℯℯ𝘭.

Su Xiao came to the iron bars. From the cell next door, a long, slender-fingered hand extended—its index finger and thumb sides were covered with calluses—a woman’s hand, a woman who frequently used guns.

Su Xiao tossed the wine over, and that hand caught it with precision.

”Phew, do you know the value of this wine? In this damn place, it’s a treasure.”

As soon as the woman spoke, hands stretched out from the neighboring cells.

”Woman, toss the wine over here.”

”I’ll give you five seconds to decide, throw it to my side.”

”Cuchulainn Bai Ye, you actually have wine and aren’t drinking it? What’s wrong, are you affected by that thing?”

”Shut up. Teasing him, do you want to die? Even if you wish for death, I don’t.”

The prison instantly became lively; Su Xiao stood at the iron bars, glancing around.
