Chapter 1384: Chapter 6: The Reason

The woman’s hand next door was frozen. There were 107 prisoners in this prison, none of whom were easy to deal with, and her cellmate belonged to a particularly difficult category. As a spy for the ”Sun Kingdom,” she was a dangerous existence in the external world, but here, she needed to be more docile.

Cakbeck Prison could be called the most dangerous prison on Sea Blue Star, without exception. There were no guards here, or rather, guards weren’t enough to suppress the prisoners here. Those stationed here were soldiers who had just returned from the front lines, warriors who had been through blood and fire.

Death row inmates weren’t qualified to be imprisoned here. This place detained either severe military criminals or those involved in treason, and occasionally, a serial killing maniac would be held here, but they’d be small fry in comparison.

Killing maniacs could only terrify ordinary people, while those imprisoned here were soldiers trained rigorously and specialized in the art of killing. It was the difference between professional and amateur.

To protect those psychopaths sentenced to life imprisonment, most of them were kept in single cells. There were two reasons one might be placed in a single cell: either they were too dangerous, or they needed protection, with psychopaths falling into the latter category.

The previous owner of Su Xiao’s identity had been imprisoned here for a month. On the first day of incarceration, five cellmates met a tragic end. The Warden of Cakbeck, out of helplessness, could only arrange a single cell for him.

Even so, people still died frequently. Chopsticks used during meals, cigarette butts left by soldiers—all became murder weapons.

The Warden, completely helpless, arranged for the prison’s only young female inmate to be placed next door. This time, the previous owner of Su Xiao’s identity calmed down and began thinking about how to enter the female prisoner’s cell next door. As for the purpose, it was obvious.

A week after the female prisoner trembled in fear, Su Xiao arrived in this world. The previous owner of this identity was sealed, thrown into some unknown space.

Su Xiao only obtained the first level of this identity; therefore, he wouldn’t have any interaction with the previous owner of this identity. The situation was the same for other Contractors.

The cell turned noisy, and Su Xiao turned to the bed, picking up a rubber chopstick. When he returned to the iron bars, the prisoners who were laughing or cursing pulled back inside the bars.

In a brief moment, the prison floor fell quiet. The rubber chopstick twirled in Su Xiao’s hand. He realized one thing: it seemed these prisoners were very afraid of him.

Su Xiao currently had no idea about the background of this identity, so he decided to take a risk. Dragon Slash appeared in his hand.

Su Xiao vanished from his original place out of thin air, using the Dragon Shadow Flash ability to enter the neighboring cell. Just after materializing, he put away Dragon Slash,

The neighboring cell layout was the same as his previous cell—one bed, one toilet, and nothing else.

A woman with a single ponytail, dressed in a gray short-sleeved shirt, sat on the bed, drinking wine with gusto, appearing very bold.

Her shirt had several holes, barely covering her abs, and her chest was somewhat exposed.

Plop~

Droplets of wine splattered from the woman’s lips as she exhaled with closed eyes. Perhaps the wine was too strong, causing her to stick out her tongue.

When she opened her eyes, the happiness on her face gradually stiffened.

”Ah!”

After a short scream, the prison returned to its deathly silence.

”That lunatic probably killed the woman next door.”

”Hush, that guy might still be busy.”

In the female prisoner’s cell, she was pinned down on the bed in a spread-eagle position, while a toppled wine bottle spilled its contents across the room, filling it with the smell of alcohol.

”Shush.”

Su Xiao pressed his index finger to his lips, his knee pinning down the woman’s arms while his other hand held her head in place, sitting on her abdomen.

The woman wished to nod, but her head was like it was caught in iron tongs, unable to move an inch. The sensation of her skull nearly being crushed was unpleasant.

”I ask, you answer.”

Su Xiao picked up the wine bottle on the bed, which was left with half a bottle.

”Mmm~”

The woman whimpered softly, and Su Xiao raised his hand.

”Huff, huff...”

The woman panted heavily, quickly shedding the fear in her eyes.

”Name.”

”...”

The woman turned her head aside, making it clear: just kill her. She was an enemy country’s special agent, and some secrets she would keep even in death.

”Forget it, straight to the point.”

Upon hearing Su Xiao’s words, the woman sighed in relief internally.

”I’ll do it myself. Don’t tear my clothes.”

”...”

Su Xiao only wanted to gather some intel and didn’t have any other intentions with her.

”Why am I imprisoned here? Answer me this question.”

”?”

The female prisoner was momentarily stunned.

”Weren’t you... the one who killed the Yaledo Country’s Diplomat?”

The woman looked at Su Xiao with doubt.

”That wasn’t my doing.”

While Su Xiao said this, he finally understood why he was in prison. The ”Yaledo Country’s Diplomat” was crucial information.

”Not you...”

The woman was clearly somewhat incredulous.

”Then why are you imprisoned here? Warriors of the Slaughter Troop are hard to train. It’s wartime now—you should be on the battlefield.”

As soon as the woman finished speaking, Su Xiao heard footsteps approaching.

”Damn it!”

At first, there was an exclamation, followed by a roar.

”Cuchulainn Bai Ye has broken out of prison! He’s escaped! Level 1 alert!!”

The squad leader who previously delivered wine roared, eyes glaring.

Clang, clang, clang.

The pounding on the iron bars caught the squad leader’s attention. He turned his head and, upon seeing the scene, even his battle-hardened gaze widened slightly.

In the cell next door, Su Xiao was bare-chested, holding half a bottle of wine, while a female prisoner, curled up against a corner, was on the bed.

”What are you yelling for?”

Su Xiao knocked on the bars, signaling the squad leader to let him out so he could return to his cell.

The squad leader’s expression was something to behold. He looked from Su Xiao’s previous cell to Su Xiao, and then to the curled-up female prisoner.

”This...”

After hesitating for a moment, the squad leader finally opened the door to the female prisoner’s cell, then opened Su Xiao’s cell.

Su Xiao stepped out from the female prisoner’s cell, and walked back to his cell at a slow pace. Surprisingly, the squad leader was not fearful of Su Xiao like the other prisoners. From his casual gestures, it was evident he regarded Su Xiao as an ally.

With a clang, the iron door shut. The squad leader glanced at the lock on the cell door, thought for a moment, then had chains brought in, securing three additional heavy locks.

”You...”

The squad leader seemed to want to say something, but after thinking it over, chose to walk away in silence. Su Xiao had had the chance to escape but didn’t, showing his stance clearly.

”When can I get out?”

Su Xiao’s gaze met the squad leader outside the cell.

”Have you thought it through?”

The squad leader stepped forward quickly.

”...”

Su Xiao didn’t fully understand the situation; he had to rely on his wits now.

”Of course... I’ve figured it out.”

”Good, I’ll go inform the Warden. Those folks from diplomacy won’t get here any sooner than tonight.”

The squad leader left, muttering under his breath as he went: ’A Slaughter Troop shouldn’t be off the frontline,’ ’being held here,’ ’how absurd’ and such.

From the squad leader’s attitude, it was clear how dangerous the previous owner of Su Xiao’s identity was, but he didn’t mind, because he had been to the battlefield and knew what it was like.

Ordinary soldiers had a high chance of developing post-war syndrome, let alone the blood-stained Slaughter Troop. The priority now was repelling the Sun Kingdom’s advance.

This was the Country of Freedom, and the military’s conduct was hardline. A warrior should die on the battlefield, not be caged in prison.

Inside the cell, Su Xiao roughly understood the situation. The previous owner he replaced was likely a stubborn person who, due to a mission, killed a diplomat of some country and was imprisoned due to the situation.

Stationed in Cakbeck Prison were military personnel, and being part of the Special Situation Emergency and Cleanup Strategy Squad’s elite troops, Su Xiao was naturally treated well here. The wine brought by the squad leader was actually the Warden’s idea.

The Warden here was a former colonel of a Legion, handed this position due to some past incident. Given the current climate, he wasn’t far from reinstatement.

In the Country of Freedom, as long as soldiers didn’t disobey orders, harm civilians, leak secrets, or commit treason, other matters weren’t significant.

Su Xiao didn’t have to wait long. About five hours later, a middle-aged man with a scarred face, clad in a black military uniform, arrived at the cell with a dozen soldiers. This man was the Warden.

”Finally thought it through? Those people from diplomacy just want an attitude, nothing more. Once this is settled, get your ass back to the battlefield. I don’t have time to entertain you here.”

The Warden looked Su Xiao up and down, nodding in satisfaction.

”Let him out.”
