My Perfect Isekai: Pragmatic Protagonist, Progression Fantasy and Strategy

The warm, blue moonlight filtered through the narrow, high windows of the basalt manor, laying across the freshly waxed, oak floorboards. The scent of polish, fresh wood shavings, and wax still lingered in the air, mingling with the crisp, forest breeze blowing in through the half-open shutters. The manor, which only that morning had glowed with a sterile, austere emptiness, had by evening transformed into a true, unyielding home. Great oak wardrobes stood in their designated places in the chambers, heavy chests with iron fittings adorned the hallways, and in the ground-floor dining room sat a massive, broad table where our entire family could sit comfortably without overcrowding.

We sat around the table after a rich, high-protein meal. Mina was purring softly as she cleared away the final plates from the extraordinarily juicy, calorie-dense steaks of forest game, while Elena and Luthia were calculating our remaining capital in their parchment ledgers with businesslike precision. The aroma of roasted meat, marjoram, and garlic from the oak grill filled the entire ground floor space. Mina, though weary after a full day of tending to the kitchen, radiated quiet pride. Every cut of venison had been seared to a crispy perfection on the outside while remaining tender and bloody on the inside, guaranteeing a massive surge of vitality for our depleted conduits. Ria served clay bowls of cold, crystal-clear water from the courtyard well, while Elena ensured that no member of our household had an empty plate.

Karys sat slightly apart, her back resting against a basalt pillar. Her pointed wolf ears twitched at every coarse sound of a chair being shifted, and her amethyst eyes attentively followed the movements of Elena’s hands. The wild creature was learning day by day that by our side no chain or whip threatened her, and her chamber on the western flank had become her first true sanctuary.

Elena set her quill aside, raising her wise, caring eyes to meet mine. Luthia rested her chin on her clasped hands, her pointed dark elf ears twitching slightly.

”Everything has been calculated logically, Dave,” Elena reported with her usual businesslike composure of a former guard. ”The gold from Silas is more than enough to maintain the manor, purchase raw materials, and stock the pantry for Mina. Luthia will secure arrangements with local smiths in the Upper City to forge the light, flexible armor for Karys that we discussed. Armor made from forest beast hides with hard steel plates at the base of the spine, securing her Vessel without restricting her tendril-tail.”

”Excellent,” I nodded, letting out a short yawn and leaning back comfortably against the carved oak back of my chair, keeping both hands pushed deep into my coat pockets. ”The base needs to run smoothly and flawlessly, like a well-oiled machine. Zero security gaps.”

According to our arrangement, tomorrow at dawn I was heading into the wilderness with Sensei for a full year of grueling training. A harsh education awaited me in the roaring torrent and dark caves of Yomi, designed to eliminate friction in my conduits, construct the Lynx Footwork, and make the flow of sapphire energy smooth and friction-free. My Vessel required complete calibration for a rigorous, laminar flow.

I shifted my gaze to the small spider sitting on Elena’s shoulder guard.

”Kaede, front and center for report,” I called out calmly.

The little blue spider bound nimbly off her shoulder and scurried onto the oak tabletop with a quiet clatter of chitinous legs. I pulled my right hand out of my coat pocket and opened a pore on my finger. A thin sapphire thread of energy shot from my core, connecting Kaede directly to Shnee’s conduits.

”The Weaver’s Pact is complete,” I announced in a firm tone. ”Kaede, you remain here as a stationary radar and familiar for Shnee. The girls will be descending into the local Crossgard dungeon floors on raids under your tactical supervision. Without your radar and the sapphire communication thread, they simply wouldn’t have complete operational safety. You are their eyes and ears on the deeper levels.”

The spider scurried up the sleeve onto Shnee’s left shoulder guard, straightening her front legs and pinged softly in our private Polish operational cipher:

”Man, don’t worry, I’ll watch over them like a hawk!” Kaede wiggled her antennae. ”These girls without you would tear that dungeon apart in a fraction of a second anyway, and I’ll make sure no monster sneaks up behind them. Zero slop on the territory!”

I offered a subtle smile in Polish, which immediately triggered a brief, momentary cognitive lag in dark elf Luthia sitting nearby. The 222-year-old analyst muttered something under her breath while adjusting her leather ledger containing raw material prices, though she refrained from commenting on the harsh, otherworldly dialect.

”Tasks are assigned,” I summarized, scanning each face in turn. ”Shnee and Karys will clear dungeon floors and farm cores under Kaede’s supervision. Elena and Luthia will secure finances, the manor, and contact with Silas in the black underworld. Mina and Ria will manage food logistics and calories. By the time I return from the wilderness, our power in Crossgard will be absolute and unquestionable.”

The night grew deeper, and the basalt manor sank into absolute, forest silence. I lay on my new, massive oak bed, staring up at the ceiling where blue reflections of moonlight lazily drifted. My conduits were calm, and my body was fully regenerated after an exhausting day.

At that moment, the door to my bedroom opened completely without a sound.

Shnee stood in the doorway. She wore only a loose, white nightgown she had borrowed from Elena. Her bare feet stepped across the oak floorboards without the slightest whisper, and her silky white hair cascaded in loose waves over her shoulders. In the dimness of the night, her diamond eyes glowed with an unnatural, sensual brightness.

Shnee walked directly to the bed. I observed her with an easygoing chill, waiting for her move. Then the elf did something that triggered a monumental, system-level bluescreen in my mind.

Instead of lying down beside me, Shnee smoothly and decisively grabbed the heavy blanket covering me and yanked it off the bed. I raised an eyebrow, completely failing to grasp what her assassin mind was trying to pull logically. Shnee didn’t waste time, however—she draped the snatched blanket over her own back like a great cloak, then with full, possessive confidence lay down directly on top of my broad chest.

Her cool, slender body fit perfectly against mine, and her long legs fully, tightly wrapped around my waist.

I felt her physical weight on my chest, her pleasant warmth, and the very distinct, direct, and incredibly sensual pressure of her chest through the thin fabric of her nightgown. A brief thought flashed in my mind:

Damn... I can’t move, and damn, sleeping is going to be tough...

Shnee propped herself up on her elbows, staring directly into my sapphire eyes. A rare, bittersweet smile bloomed on her face, as the cold mask of an unyielding Red Trail assassin slowly melted away. With me, she was simply Shnee—a sensual, possessive, and endlessly loyal woman.

”I will miss you, Dave,” she whispered softly, her voice trembling slightly in the dark. ”But I will handle everything here. I will lead Karys in the dungeons. When you return, our team will be stronger than ever.”

I raised my left hand and slowly, methodically began stroking her silky white hair, feeling a deep, profound calmness.

”Logically speaking, Shnee,” I replied in a quiet, rough tone. ”We are forging a foundation for something monumental. A year will pass quickly, and you have a secure fortress here.”

Shnee didn’t answer. Instead, she slowly raised both hands and cupped my face in her slender, cool fingers. Her grip was possessive, almost paralyzing in its directness. She held my head firmly so I couldn’t make the slightest movement, then leaned down and pressed her lips to mine in a long, firm, yet incredibly tender and delicate kiss.

I felt my analytical mind catch a full bluescreen for a moment. Yet no foolish, panic-driven trope from Earth teen stories fired in my brain—I didn’t try to pull away or yell. When Shnee slowly parted her lips after a lingering moment, a predatory, immensely satisfied smirk spread across my face.

”Hm. First kiss of my life. I liked it,” I muttered under my breath, gazing into her diamond eyes. The air in the bedroom carried the faint, frost-crisp scent of ice mana that had always accompanied Shnee. As her chest rose and fell rhythmically against mine, I could feel every rapid beat of her heart. The old terror from the slave cells of Marquis de Valois had completely evaporated. What remained was the pride of the First Pillar and the quiet, uncompromising closeness of a woman who had found her sole, immovable point of origin. Her slender fingers tightened softly around my shoulder, and her warm breath brushed my neck, soothing the last lingering thoughts in my mind.

Shnee let out a quiet, purring sigh of relief and pressed her cheek directly against my left collarbone. I pulled her tighter against me, tucking us both under the heavy blanket. We fell asleep locked in that tight, secure embrace, feeling the unbreakable bond between two strong individuals who had survived hell and were building their future strictly on their own terms. Before surrendering to the quiet of the night, I double-checked the latches on the shutters and the condition of my bottomless pouch. The pure gold from Silas, the reserve of raw materials, the armored clasps of my coat—everything rested securely in its place. The knowledge that the manor was fortified by a basalt foundation and guarded by the vigilant eyes of our entire Crew gave me a solid sense of a job well done. My sapphire Vessel pulsed with a steady, formidable rhythm, fully prepared to endure the brutal training awaiting me under Sensei’s guidance.

When the first, pale blue rays of morning sun began lazily breaking through the forest fog over Crossgard, I was already standing on the porch of the basalt manor. I threw my black leather coat over my broad shoulders, straightened the collar with a smooth motion, and ensured my trapper pouch was properly secured at my side.

The entire Crew stood before the manor to see me off. Shnee looked at me with the proud, cold composure of a true partner, though the memory of the previous night still flickered in her diamond eyes. Karys stood slightly to the side, leaning comfortably against a basalt pillar. Her wolf ears twitched slightly, and her amethyst eyes attentively followed my every move. Elena, Luthia, Mina, and Ria smiled with quiet confidence.

”Keep your heads up, girls. In one year, I return as a monster,” I tossed back with my usual brazen chill, raising a hand in farewell.

I turned on my heel and with a slow, steady stride headed down the trail beneath the sprawling oaks, where the bent figure of Sensei in his gray cloak was already waiting. The time of relentless training had arrived.
