My Perfect Isekai: Pragmatic Protagonist, Progression Fantasy and Strategy

The ancient furnace of the Sovereign Workshop hummed with a deep, rhythmic vibration that echoed through three subterranean levels of solid granite. Red-hot channels of liquid silver and melted obsidian flowed smoothly into cooling troughs, guided by thin, glowing threads of my Sapphire Slime. In the center of the main hall, the air was crisp and clean, kept at a constant eighteen degrees Celsius by my thermal regulation sphere.

Shnee stood by the central anvil, inspecting her newly reinforced Celestial Silver rapier. The blade, now integrated with high-density rune obsidian along its central spine, caught the ambient light with an icy, razor-sharp glint. The balance was absolute, crafted with zero margin for error.

”The structural density of the weapon has increased by forty-two percent,” I observed calmly, adjusting my black coat as the newly woven slime-threads settled into the fabric. The coat now possessed passive kinetic damping, capable of dispersing heavy mechanical impacts across its entire surface area without transferring momentum to my body. ”Your mana conduction efficiency through the hilt should be near seamless.”

Shnee executed a swift, elegant thrust into the empty air, the tip of her rapier stopping a millimeter above the stone floor. ”The response time is instantaneous, my Sovereign,” she replied, a faint, predatory smile touching her lips. ”There is no lag between my intent and the blade’s release.”

”Operational status green, boss!” Kaede’s cheerful ping resonated in my ear as her small tactical spider chassis skittered across my left pauldron.

I nodded once, slipping my hands loosely into my coat pockets. ”Good. Because our uninvited guest has finally arrived.”

Outside the heavy iron gates of the Duszarnia, the heavy clatter of iron-shod boots and the deep rumble of armored carriages shook the cobbled street of the Iron District. Earl Kaelar had not come alone. Through the tactical feeds provided by Kaede’s web-sensors, I mapped his entire force: fifty heavy knights clad in full steel plate, ten high-tier battle mages in crimson robes, and a dozen personal guards surrounding Kaelar’s gilded carriage. Among them stood Lieutenant Vane, his chestplate visibly reinforced with crude steel patches where my Gōtai had shattered his previous armor at the city gate.

”Open the gates,” I commanded quietly.

”Robi się, szefie!” Kaede chirped. ”Aż miło popatrzeć na te ich groźne miny. Zaraz im rury zmiękną!”

With a low, mechanical groan, the massive granite and iron doors of the Sovereign Workshop swung inward. I stepped out into the wide courtyard, flanked by Shnee on my right and Kaede perched on my shoulder. The cool morning air of Crossgard carried the scent of coal smoke, ozone, and the faint, metallic tang of impending violence.

Earl Kaelar stepped down from his carriage. He was a tall, imposing man in his late forties, wearing a coat of fine crimson velvet over a breastplate etched with the golden crest of a roaring wolf. His eyes, cold and arrogant, swept over the courtyard before settling on me.

”So you are the arrogant mercenary who humiliated my garrison at Oakhaven and defied my tax collectors at the city gate,” Kaelar spoke, his voice booming across the courtyard with mana-infused authority. ”You claim this ancient foundry as your own, yet you stand in the territory of the realm under my jurisdiction. I am Earl Kaelar of the Red March. By decree of the provincial council, this property and all dungeon spoils retrieved within these walls are subject to fifty percent crown taxation.”

I stood fifty paces away, my posture completely relaxed, my hands remaining buried deep in my pockets. ”Your jurisdiction ended the moment I paid the city registrar in raw silver and violet cores,” I replied, my voice calm, even, and devoid of any emotion. ”And your garrison didn’t surrender because of an insult. They surrendered because their tactical layout was incompetent and their armor was brittle.”

Kaelar’s jaw tightened, a vein pulsing at his temple. Beside him, Lieutenant Vane shifted nervously, his hand trembling slightly on the hilt of his broadsword.

”You speak with great brazenness for a man surrounded by sixty elite combatants,” Kaelar sneered, raising his right hand. ”I gave you a chance to submit and pay your dues. Since you prefer defiance, I will seize this workshop by force, execute your companions, and strip your Vessel of its core.”

At Kaelar’s signal, the ten crimson-robed mages stepped forward in perfect unison. They raised their staff heads, chanting in high-pitched arcane dialects as a massive, hundred-meter arc of compressed fire materialized above the courtyard. The heat radiated outward, scorching the cobblestones and turning the air into a shimmering furnace.

”Combine spell: Inferno Cataclysm!” the lead mage roared. ”Burn them to ash!”

The wall of compressed flame surged forward like a roaring tidal wave, threatening to swallow the entire courtyard and melt the stone walls of the workshop.

”Szefie! Setka ton ognia na szlaku!” Kaede pinged sharply. ”Pancerz termiczny na chamskim poziomie! Chcą nas usmażyć razem z bramą!”

”Thermal disposal,” I said softly.

I didn’t draw a weapon. I didn’t step back. I simply unbuckled a micro-valve in my energy pathways, letting the dense, golden-blue aura of my Pyrite Core expand outward in a fifteen-meter sphere. The Sapphire Slime threads integrated into my coat flared with bright sapphire light.

The moment the hundred-meter wall of fire touched the outer boundary of my sphere, it didn’t explode or breach my defense. The zero-friction kinetic layer and extreme thermal absorption properties of my szafirowy aura swallowed the heat instantly. The roaring flames collapsed inward, their thermal energy converted directly into neutral kinetic vibration and absorbed into my internal furnace. Within two seconds, the monstrous wave of fire evaporated into a harmless, cool mist that gently dissipated in the morning breeze.

The courtyard fell into a suffocating, absolute silence.

The ten battle mages stared at their glowing staves in utter disbelief, their mana reserves completely drained, their faces pale as chalk.

”Impossible...” Kaelar whispered, his arrogant composure cracking for the first time. ”A high-tier elemental spell... neutralized without a single spell-shield?”

”Your thermodynamics are abysmal,” I stated flatly, taking three slow, deliberate steps forward. ”You spent ten thousand joules of mana to generate raw heat, yet you failed to account for thermal dissipation and energy absorption. It was a waste of calories.”

”Attack! Kill him! All units, charge!” Kaelar screamed, his voice cracking with rage and sudden panic.

Fifty heavy knights drew their broadswords and halberds, shouting battle cries as they surged across the courtyard in a dense steel wall.

”Shnee,” I murmured.

”Understood, my Sovereign,” she whispered.

She blurred into motion. She didn’t use flashy spells or wasteful elemental outbursts. Moving like a silver phantom, Shnee glided between the charging knights with lethal, assassin-like precision. Her reinforced Celestial Silver rapier whistled through the air, striking with microscopic accuracy.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

She didn’t aim for their flesh; she aimed for the structural joints of their plate armor and the mana-conduits of their weapons. In less than ten seconds, thirty heavy knights collapsed to their knees, their swords shattered, their pauldrons unbuckled, and their leg joints frozen solid by targeted bursts of her frost mana. Not a single drop of blood was spilled, yet the entire front line was neutralized with mechanical perfection.

Lieutenant Vane backed away in terror, dropping his halberd onto the stones. ”He’s... they’re not human... They’re monsters...”

Kaelar stumbled backward against his carriage, his face twisted in horror. With trembling fingers, he pulled a glowing, golden amulet from beneath his velvet coat—a legendary protective artifact etched with ancient defensive runes.

”Stay back!” Kaelar shrieked, activating the amulet. A blinding, golden barrier formed around his body, three meters thick, reinforced by the protective ley-lines of the realm. ”This is the Sun God’s Aegis! It cannot be pierced by physical blades or high-tier magic! You cannot touch me!”

I walked up to the golden barrier, my hands still comfortably resting in my coat pockets. I stopped a few inches from the shimmering energy wall, examining its rune structure with cool, analytical detachment.

”A static energy barrier with a fixed resonant frequency,” I noted quietly. ”You rely on ancient artifacts because your own Vessel is weak and unpolished. You believe a thick shell makes you invincible.”

I raised my right hand, coating my palm in the pitch-black, light-absorbing armor of my Gōtai. Golden-blue sparks from my Pyrite Core danced across my fingers, humming with an intense, microscopic vibration.

”Szefie! To jest ten słynny przycisk ’delete’!” Kaede cheered from my shoulder. ”Zmiażdż tę złoconą puszkę!”

I placed my black-armored palm gently against the golden barrier.

I didn’t punch. I didn’t swing. I simply released a precise, triple-voltage harmonic impulse from my Pyrite Core, matching the exact resonant frequency of the amulet’s runes.

CRACK.

A single hairline fracture appeared where my palm touched the golden light. A millisecond later, the microscopic vibration expanded exponentially through the entire matrix.

BOOM!

The three-meter-thick legendary barrier shattered into millions of glowing, harmless golden specks that rained down onto the cobblestones. The force of the harmonic feedback traveled back into the amulet in Kaelar’s hand, causing the priceless artifact to explode into fine golden dust.

Kaelar fell backward onto his hands and knees, staring at his empty, scorched palm in absolute shock. The leader of the Red March, the powerful nobleman who held Oakhaven in an iron grip, was now trembling like a frightened child on the dirt.

I stood over him, my shadow falling long across his face.

”Listen to me very carefully, Kaelar,” I said, my voice dropping to a low, icy frequency that echoed in the marrow of his bones. ”This workshop is my sovereign domain. The dungeon beneath Crossgard is my testing ground. You will remove your troops from this district immediately. You will sign over all tax exemptions for the Iron District, and you will pay ten thousand gold coins to Silas as compensation for the disruption of trade.”

”Ten... ten thousand gold?” Kaelar stammered, his eyes wide with horror. ”That is... that is a fortune!”

”It is the cost of your survival,” I replied coldly. ”If I see another one of your crimson banners near my gates, I will not bother breaking your barriers. I will deconstruct your estate brick by brick.”

Kaelar scrambled to his feet, nodding frantically as he backed away toward his carriage. ”I... I agree! The tax exemption is yours! The gold will be delivered by noon! Retreat! All units, retreat!”

The remaining knights and mages scrambled to drag their frozen comrades into the carriages, fleeing down the street of the Iron District as if the devil himself were chasing them. Within minutes, the street was completely clear, leaving only the quiet hum of the Duszarnia’s furnace in the air.

Kaede let out a loud, victorious whistle from my shoulder. ”Ale rozpiździel, szefie! Kaelar uciekł z pełnymi gatersami, dostaliśmy darmową dzierżawę i dychę w złocie! Pani Elena ugotuje z tego taki gęsty gulasz, że aż wuszkach strzyka!”

Shnee sheathed her Celestial Silver rapier with a crisp, metallic click, stepping up beside me. ”The perimeter is secure, my Sovereign. The local factions now understand our boundary.”

I turned back toward the dark, gaping archway of the Sovereign Workshop, looking down into the subterranean shafts that led straight into the deepest, unmapped floors of the Crossgard dungeon.

My modernized Vessel was humming with perfect, flawless efficiency. The Pyrite Core burned bright and steady within my chest, ready for the monstrous pressures of the deeper floors. The first stage of our march was complete. Oakhaven was behind us, Crossgard was under control, and the true challenge of the lower depths awaited.

”Get the gear ready,” I said quietly, a faint, razor-sharp smile touching my lips as I looked down into the abyss. ”Tomorrow, we descend into the sixty-first floor.”
