My Perfect Isekai: Pragmatic Protagonist, Progression Fantasy and Strategy

The persistent, oppressive humidity of the Golden Griffin’s private taproom felt like a heavy blanket compared to the sterile, sub-zero air of the dungeon’s lower reaches. I sat at the polished oak table, staring at the small mountain of purple dungeon cores and heavy ingots of refined liquid silver that Silas had painstakingly cataloged.

Elena set down a massive clay bowl of steaming Tonkotsu ramen, the thick pork bone broth glistening with rich marrow fat, accompanied by a side platter of thick-cut roasted pork belly. Beside her, Mina carried a pitcher of ice-cold berry cider, her eyes wide as she glanced at the glowing loot stacked across the table.

”You need to eat every last bite, Dave,” Elena said softly, wiping her hands on her linen apron. ”I can see the strain in your eyes. Expanding those energy channels takes a toll that no amount of pure mana can heal.”

”She’s right, boss,” Kaede chirped from her perching spot on my shoulder, her small spider legs adjusting her position on my black coat. ”Przetrawiłeś pięćdziesiąt pięter, ale twoje ciało potrzebuje konkretnego białka i gęstego tonażu kalorii! Bez tego następna katorga rozwali ci tkanki od środka!”

”I’m eating,” I replied calmly, picking up the wooden chopsticks and diving into the hot ramen. The dense calories and rich broth hit my digestive system immediately, and my passive biological regeneration converted the nutrients into raw cellular repair.

Before I could finish the second bowl, the heavy oak doors of the Golden Griffin swung open with an abrupt, rattling bang.

Silas stepped inside, his silk doublet soaked in nervous sweat, his face pale as fresh chalk. Behind him stood two tall men wearing heavy, dark-red enameled plate armor embossed with the crest of a coiled viper—the private vanguard of Viscount Kaelar.

The lead guard, a scarred veteran with a sneering jaw and a heavy broadsword strapped to his waist, stepped into the room with heavy, deliberate clanks. He didn’t spare a glance at Elena or Mina, fixing his cold, arrogant gaze directly on me.

”Dave the Unfettered,” the guard declared, his voice echoing off the timber beams. ”My lord, Viscount Kaelar, has observed your recent activities in the Oakhaven dungeon. Breaking through to the fiftieth floor without registering your full party inventory or paying the noble territorial tariff is a direct violation of regional ordinance.”

Shnee, who had been leaning quietly against the hearth pillar, smoothly uncrossed her arms. Her hand rested on the pommel of her Celestial Silver rapier, her icy blue eyes narrowing into slits of pure, lethal intent.

”The dungeon is governed by the Adventurers’ Guild charter, not local territorial nobility,” I said coldly, setting my chopsticks down without a single tremor in my hands. ”I owe Kaelar nothing.”

The guard chuckled, a dry, grating sound. ”The Guild operates on noble land, sellsword. Lord Kaelar offers you a choice. Hand over fifty percent of your core yield from the lower floors and swear a oath of vassalage to his house before tomorrow’s dusk. In return, you will be granted official aristocratic protection and a officer’s rank in his private vanguard.”

”And if I refuse?” I asked, my voice dropping an octave into a flat, dangerous monotone.

”Then you and your little entourage will find the exit gates of Oakhaven sealed,” the guard replied sneeringly. ”And any attempts to trade with Guild merchants will be met with immediate confiscation. Lord Kaelar does not tolerate unchained dogs running wild in his domain.”

Kaede’s small legs twitched on my collar. ”Szefie, ten kloc myśli, że jest nietykalny, bo nosi czerwony pancerz z blachy! Jedna fala ciśnienia i gość leży i kwiczy w korytarzu!”

”Tell Kaelar that if he steps into my path,” I said slowly, standing up from the table, ”he will not be collecting taxes. He will be collecting his own teeth from the cobbles. Get out of my sight before I decide to liquidate your vanguard here and now.”

The lead guard’s eyes widened with a sudden flash of fear as he felt the ambient atmospheric pressure in the room spike. The air grew impossibly dense, warping the candlelight around my black coat. Recognizing the absolute, predator-like threat in my gaze, the two guards backed out of the taproom without another word, their iron boots clattering frantically on the cobblestones outside.

”He will gather his main force at the city gates,” Silas whimpered, wringing his hands. ”Kaelar has over two hundred heavy men-at-arms and three High-Tier battle mages!”

”Let him gather whoever he wants,” I said, turning toward the stairs leading to my private quarters. ”Shnee, Kaede. Bar the doors. I am going into seclusion for the next forty-eight hours. No one disturbs me.”

I locked the heavy oak door of my bedroom, pulled the thick velvet curtains shut, and sat cross-legged in the center of the dry floorboards.

My current Vessel throughput sat at sixty percent—a formidable level that allowed me to handle monstrous electrical surges and kinetic shockwaves. But it was still bound within the limits of the Muddy Phase, operating on the unrefined Jasper Core. To face an entire noble garrison and crush Kaelar without relying on pyrotechnic displays or wasteful energy expenditure, I needed a qualitative breakthrough.

I needed to break through the first major threshold of cultivation. I needed to forge the Pyrite Core.

I closed my eyes and drew a deep, deliberate breath, turning my internal focus entirely inward.

Deep within the center of my chest, surrounded by a dense network of widened, sapphire-glowing energy conduits, sat the Jasper Core. It was a dark, unpolished mass of primordial mana, churning with raw, unrefined power.

”Time to break the mold,” I whispered to myself.

I unbuckled the mental locks holding back my internal reactor. Instead of releasing the energy outward into a kinetic shield or lightning strike, I inverted the flow. I forced the entire sixty-percent volume of my sapphire current back into the core itself.

The reaction was instantaneous and agonizing.

CRACK!

A violent, internal shockwave detonated in my sternum. The unrefined Jasper Core resisted the compression, fighting back with chaotic, raw pressure. Microscopic fractures rippled across my internal riverbeds as the monstrous density of the compressed mana threatened to tear my chest open from the inside.

Blood gushed from my nose and cracked lips, dripping onto my black trousers. My muscles seized in a rigid, violent spasm, every nerve ending screaming in agony as my passive biological regeneration fought a desperate war against the internal pressure.

”Focus...” I growled through gritted teeth, tasting copper and iron. ”Compress it. Eliminate the impurities. Solidify the matrix.”

I clamped my mental wille around the churning core like a hydraulic press. I forced the chaotic, muddy mana into a tighter and tighter sphere, driving the density beyond its natural limit.

The unrefined, dark Jasper matrix began to crumble under the extreme compression. The impurities—loose, unanchored mana fragments—were crushed into ash and flushed out through my pores in a dark, foul-smelling mist.

Hours bled into one another. Night turned to day, and day turned back into night.

Elena quietly placed jugs of cold water and roasted meat outside my door, while Shnee stood vigilant guard in the corridor, her hand never leaving her rapier.

On the dawn of the second day, the final compression threshold was reached.

BOOM!

A silent, spiritual explosion echoed through my entire Vessel.

The dark, muddy Jasper Core collapsed completely, its unrefined structure shattering into golden, metallic dust. From the center of the collapse, a new, flawless crystal materialized—a dense, brilliant, golden-tinted Pyrite Core (Level 2 Core).

The newly forged Pyrite Core hummed with a deep, resonant frequency, radiating an unyielding, metallic warmth throughout my entire circulatory system. My widened energy pathways instantly stabilized, absorbing the new, golden-sapphire energy like dry soil soaking up rain.

My internal capacity hadn’t just expanded—it had multiplied. The efficiency of my energy manipulation jumped by three hundred percent. The raw, unpolished Muddy Phase was gone, replaced by the dense, metallic stability of the Pyrite Stage.

I opened my eyes. Deep within my pupils, twin golden-sapphire sparks burned with a cold, terrifying intensity.

I wiped the dried blood from my chin, stood up smoothly from the floorboards, and adjusted my black coat. My body felt weightless, completely free of fatigue or strain.

”Kaede,” I called out softly.

The door clicked open, and Kaede scurried inside, her small spider eyes widening as she sensed the qualitative shift in my aura.

”Szefie!...” she whispered in awe, her voice dropping into a hushed ping. ”Twoja energia... Ona już nie jest mętna! To jest czysty, złoto-szafirowy reaktor! Przełamałeś rdzeń na Pyrite Core!”

”I did,” I replied coldly, flexing my fingers as golden-blue arcs of static electricity danced harmlessly across my knuckles. ”Tell Shnee to prepare her blade. It’s time to go collect Kaelar’s tariff.”
