My Perfect Isekai: Pragmatic Protagonist, Progression Fantasy and Strategy

The air on the fifty-sixth floor of the Crossgard dungeon did not burn with the suffocating, two-hundred-degree heat of the lower magma rifts, nor did it freeze the lungs with the freezing wind of the upper glaciers. Instead, the atmosphere smelled faintly of ozone, crushed quartz, and ancient, stagnant mineral dust that had settled over centuries of undisturbed isolation.

The terrain had transformed into an intricate, geometric labyrinth. Walls of translucent, dark-purple obsidian crystal rose fifteen meters high, reflecting our movements in distorted, angular mirrors that multiplied our silhouettes into dozens of shifting reflections. The floor beneath our boots was smooth, composed of polished chitinous plates that clicked faintly under our weight with every calculated step we took.

”Tactical pings active, boss!” Kaede’s cheerful, high-pitched voice buzzed in my left ear in our native Polish operational cipher. ”Trzy duże kryształowe skorpiony pięćdziesiąt metrów przed nami! Pancerz mają chamsko twardy, obłożony pancerzem chitynowym i rezonującym kwarcem! Do tego idą w ciasnym korytarzu! Czujesz tę gęstość?”

I didn’t slow my pace. I walked down the center of the crystalline corridor, my hands loosely tucked into the deep pockets of my black coat. Beneath my sternum, the newly awakened Pyrite Core hummed with an absolute, frictionless efficiency. The gold-sapphire furnace operated with three hundred percent greater energy density than the old Jasper Core, effortlessly maintaining my passive kinetic barrier and keeping the ambient mineral pressure at a comfortable zero.

My modernized Vessel handled the energy throughput with effortless grace. There were no spasms in my channels, no blood bubbling in my throat, and no microscopic tearing of my muscle tissue. The Pyrite breakthrough had permanently widened my energy conduits, transforming my internal network into a high-capacity, superconducting grid that processed energy without generating a single calorie of excess heat.

”Shnee,” I said calmly, my voice barely echoing off the quartz walls. ”Clear the flanks. Leave the central heavy construct to me.”

”Understood, Dave,” Shnee replied softly.

Her Celestial Silver rapier cleared its scabbard with a whispering, metallic hiss that vibrated through the quiet corridor. She blurred into motion, her feet gliding across the smooth chitinous floor with effortless, predatory grace. There was no theatrical flash of magic—only pure, distilled martial precision.

Three massive creatures rounded the crystalline corner. They were Crystal Chitin Scorpions—six-meter-long monstrosities clad in thick, overlapping plates of dark purple chitin, their stingers capped with pulsating, razor-sharp amethyst crystals that hummed with destabilizing sonic energy.

The lead scorpion snapped its massive, three-ton claws, aiming a horizontal pincer strike directly at Shnee’s torso. The white-haired elf didn’t attempt to block the crushing weight. She executed a fluid, minimal sidestep, allowing the massive claw to smash uselessly into the obsidian wall, showering the corridor in purple crystal splinters.

In the same fraction of a second, Shnee’s rapier flashed forward twice. Her blade found the microscopic, unarmored joint between the scorpion’s chitinous shoulder plates. She didn’t force the strike; she channeled a concentrated burst of extreme frost mana directly through the steel tip into the creature’s central nervous node.

The monster’s entire left side froze instantly, its internal circulatory pathways crystallizing into brittle ice. Shnee stepped off the frozen leg, using the momentum to vault cleanly over the monster’s tail, her blade severing the crystalline stinger before the beast could even register the damage.

”Pięknie, pani Shnee!” Kaede cheered from my pauldron. ”Dajesz, szefie, ten na środku prze na ciebie!”

The largest of the three scorpions—an eight-ton alpha with double-layered chitin plates—charged down the narrow central corridor, its heavy legs clicking rapidly against the stone. It didn’t bother using its claws; it lowered its massive, armored head, attempting to crush me against the crystal walls using pure kinetic mass.

I stopped five paces from the charging monster. I didn’t draw a weapon. I didn’t brace my legs in a heavy defensive stance.

I simply raised my right hand, unbuckling a mental valve within my energy pathways.

With the Pyrite Core active, the flow of energy was instantaneous and completely smooth. I didn’t waste power on massive, theatrical blasts of flame or kinetic shockwaves. Instead, I compressed a thin thread of Sapphire Slime into a dense, monomolekularna needle—an Amorphous Needle of extreme kinetic density, no thicker than a human hair, spinning at twenty thousand revolutions per second.

”Clinical liquidation,” I murmured.

I flicked my wrist, launching the Amorphous Needle straight between the scorpion’s charging mandibles.

The needle possessed virtually zero surface area, allowing it to penetrate the three-inch-thick chitinous plate without losing a single joule of kinetic momentum. It pierced the monster’s front shell, traveled straight through its brain stem, and exited through its tail joint, severing every primary nerve conduit in a fraction of a millisecond.

The eight-ton scorpion froze mid-stride. Its massive momentum carried it forward another two meters, but its legs had completely unlocked. It slid harmlessly to a halt, stopping exactly ten centimeters from the toes of my boots.

A second later, the internal kinetic vibration of the needle expanded outward within its carcass. The thick chitinous carapace cracked from the inside out, dissolving into a pile of dry chitin dust, shattered amethyst quartz, and steaming ash.

A glowing, purple-gold monster core tumbled onto the polished floor, rolling to a stop right against my heel.

I bent down, picked up the dense core, and tossed it into my dimensional pouch.

”Radary czyste, szefie!” Kaede reported happily, her small spider legs tapping my collar in a victorious rhythm. ”Pięćdziesiąta szósta strzelona w dwie minuty! Żadnych strat w materiale, a pancerze chitynowe można opchnąć Silasowi na rękojeści do broni!”

”Silas will pay top gold for high-density chitin,” I noted, turning my gaze toward the archway leading deeper into the crystal maze. ”Pack the rest into the storage sacks. We keep moving.”

We pushed forward into the fifty-seventh floor without halting. The labyrinth expanded into a grand subterranean atrium, where massive crystalline stalactites hung from a vaulted ceiling fifty meters above us. The air here vibrated with a deeper, resonant frequency—a harmonic hum produced by a swarm of Crystal Crawlers roosting in the darkness overhead.

”Szefie! Z góry idzie cała chmara!” Kaede warned, her legs tightening on my lapel. ”Trzydzieści mniejszych pająków kwarcowych! Szykują się do zrzutu bezpośrednio na nasze głowy! Mają pancerze reaktywne na magię ognia!”

”No need to waste stamina or heat,” I said quietly.

I extended my left palm, invoking the passive aura of my Pyrite Core. I didn’t launch an offensive spell or an energetic shockwave that would damage the ceiling. Instead, I projected a horizontal disk of dense, light-absorbing Gōtai armor five meters above our heads, creating an impenetrable umbrella of pure kinetic force.

The swarm of Crystal Crawlers rained down from the ceiling like heavy hail. Thirty three-hundred-kilogram beasts slammed into the black Gōtai barrier in rapid succession. The kinetic impact of their descent was completely absorbed by the black shell, transferring zero force down to our level.

As the creatures bounced off the barrier, Shnee moved in a blurred circle around the perimeter. Her rapier darted in and out with mechanical, terrifying precision, piercing the vulnerable abdominal seams of every crawler as they fell. Within twenty seconds, all thirty creatures lay motionless on the crystal floor, their carapaces shattered into piles of useless quartz dust.

”Efficiency at its finest,” Shnee murmured, wiping her rapier with a silk cloth before sheathing it with a soft click.

”That’s how we operate,” I replied, harvesting the thirty small fioletowe rdzenie with a single telekinetic sweep of my hand. ”No wasted movement, no wasted energy.”

We descended the winding obsidian staircase to the fifty-eighth floor, where the crystal walls gave way to narrow, chitinous ridges suspended over a deep abyss. Cold draft currents whistled through the chasm, carrying the scent of rich, unrefined mana.

Standing at the narrowest point of the ridge was a solitary guardian—a ten-meter Crystal Dreadnought, its body constructed from interlocking slabs of dark purple quartz and heavy chitin plating. It held a massive, four-ton halberd forged from crystallized basalt.

”Szefie! Ten kloc ma pancerz gruby na metr i blokuje jedyne przejście!” Kaede pinged, her tone full of excitement. ”Jak go zdejmujemy?”

”By applying basic mechanics,” I said.

I stepped onto the narrow ridge, my boots making no sound against the chitinous floor. The Dreadnought raised its colossal halberd, bringing it down in a vertical, crushing arc that threatened to split the entire ridge in half.

I didn’t dodge to the side where the drop was sheer. I walked straight into the attack path.

As the four-ton halberd descended, I raised my right arm, coating my forearm in a thin layer of Gōtai infused with Pyrite Core energy. The black energy hummed with an absolute, unyielding density, distorting the ambient light.

The four-ton halberd struck my forearm (BOOM!).

The shockwave blew the surrounding dust into the abyss, but my arm didn’t move an inch. The kinetic energy of the strike was completely absorbed and redirected down into the ridge behind me.

Before the Dreadnought could retract its weapon, I stepped inside its guard and placed my left palm flat against its sternum plate.

”Pyrite Impulse,” I murmured.

A concentrated surge of gold-sapphire lightning erupted from my palm, traveling straight through the three-foot-thick chitin armor. The high-voltage charge didn’t explode the outer shell; it entered the monster’s central core and violently depolarized its internal mana matrix.

The ten-meter Dreadnought stiffened instantly. Its crimson runes flickered and died. A fraction of a second later, the entire monster collapsed inward, crumbling into a harmless mound of dark purple crystal dust and steaming ash.

I caught the glowing purple-gold core as it fell from the dust cloud, placing it neatly alongside the others in my pouch.

”Fifty-eight cleared,” I said smoothly, stepping over the pile of dust toward the fifty-ninth portal. ”Zero energy deficit.”

”Rozkaz, szefie!” Kaede chirped from my pauldron. ”Kaelar pewnie dalej płacze w swoim pałacu, a my łamiemy dziewiątą dychę bez kropki potu!” The archway to the fifty-ninth floor stood before us, framed by massive obsidian pillars that glowed with a faint, rhythmic purple pulse. Beyond it lay the final threshold before the boss room of the ninth decade—the culmination of fifty-nine floors of calculated, relentless progression.

”Floor fifty-nine,” Shnee remarked softly, stepping up beside me and looking down into the dark, crystalline corridor ahead. ”The mana density down here is noticeably heavier. The ambient pressure would crush an ordinary gold-rank adventurer’s barrier in seconds.”

”An ordinary adventurer operates on brute force and unrefined spells,” I replied, my eyes scanning the dark corridor with calm, analytical precision. ”We operate on cold engineering. Kaede, status report on our supplies and core reserves.”

”Wszystko w najlepszym porządku, szefie!” Kaede pinged back instantly, her small front legs making a crisp clicking sound against my collar. ”Mamy komplet rdzeni z poprzednich pięter, zero strat w pancerzu śluzowym, a reaktor Pyrite Core działa na rześkie czternaście procent obciążenia! Jesteśmy zbrojeni po zęby i gotowi na finał dziewiątej dychy!”

”Good,” I said, letting a faint, dangerous smile touch my lips. ”Let’s finish the fifty-ninth floor and take the boss’s head.”
