My Perfect Isekai: Pragmatic Protagonist, Progression Fantasy and Strategy

The descent to the ninety-second floor greeted us with a sound like the roaring throat of a blast furnace. The air was no longer merely hot—it was a dense, shimmering haze of superheated gas and volatile sulfur that scorched the lungs with every breath. Beneath our boots, the stone floor transitioned into narrow, basalt ridges winding through vast, bubbling basins of liquid iron and bright orange magma.

From the vaulted ceiling of the cavern, droplets of liquid metal fell in a constant, deadly drizzle. Each heavy drop of molten iron struck the basalt with a sharp, hissing crackle, instantly burning deep pockmarks into the ancient stone and releasing plumes of toxic, white vapor.

”O ja ciechrzrz! Szefie, z nieba kapie płynne żelazo!” Kaede’s cheerful, high-pitched ping buzzed in my left ear in our native Polish operational cipher. ”Temperatura otoczenia przekracza trzysta stopni! Moje przędne zaczynają się lekko podtapiać na końcówkach! Szykujemy osłonę przeciwdeszczową?”

”Already on it,” I replied coldly, keeping my hands resting casually in the deep pockets of my black coat.

I unbuckled a minimal fraction of throughput from my internal reactor. The szafirowa energy surged through my conduits with the smooth, silent rhythm of an industrial pump, flowing into the layer of dense, blue slime resting beneath my coat.

With a soft, liquid hiss, a thick tendril of Sapphire Slime extended from my shoulder, rising half a meter above my head before spreading outward like an elegant, perfectly smooth dome. I overlaid the blue membrane with a continuous, low-frequency kinetic deflector—a slippery, frictionless force field angled at a precise thirty-five-degree slant.

The Sapphire Parasol was born.

As heavy drops of two-thousand-degree liquid iron rained down from the cavern ceiling, they didn’t scorch or burn through the barrier. The moment a molten droplet touched the angled kinetic surface of the blue dome, its momentum was instantly redirected. The glowing liquid metal slid off the smooth curved slope like raindrops on an oiled windshield, splashing harmlessly into the bubbling magma basins below.

Inside the two-meter sphere of the parasol, the temperature remained a stable, crisp eighteen degrees Celsius.

Shnee stepped closer to my left side, her Celestial Silver rapier held at a comfortable low guard. Her pale, serene face showed not a single bead of sweat, and her sharp blue eyes scanned the bubbling magma pools with cold, predatory focus.

”Elegance and absolute efficiency,” Shnee remarked softly, a faint, proud smile touching her lips. ”The creatures of this biome rely entirely on thermal shock to break their prey. You have turned their environment into an irrelevant background element.”

”Why waste calories fighting heat when physics allows you to slide it away?” I said calmly, taking a slow step forward along the narrow basalt ridge. ”Let them waste their thermal pressure against a frictionless slope. We save our energy for the liquidation.”

”Szefie! Trzy czerwone sygnały pod powierzchni pęcherza magmy!” Kaede reported sharply, her small spider legs tightening on my collar. ”Siedemdziesiąt metrów przed nami, na trzeciej godzinie! Wyłaniają się Zmutowane Salamandry Magmowe! Wyglądają na głodne i mają chamsko grube, krzemowe pancerze!”

The surface of the nearest magma basin erupted in a geyser of liquid fire. Three massive, eight-meter-long reptiles burst from the molten pool. Their bodies were covered in thick, overlapping plates of glowing red silicon and cooled slag, their eyes burning with a mindless, predatory fury.

As they landed on the basalt ridge in front of us, the heat radiating from their scales was intense enough to ignite dry wood at twenty meters. They hissed in unison, their jaws opening to reveal rows of razor-sharp obsidian teeth dripping with liquid magma.

”Shnee, test the structural density of their neck joints,” I instructed quietly. ”No need to waste heavy kinetic pulses if precise thermal shock works better.”

”Understood, Sovereign,” Shnee whispered.

She blurred into motion. Moving with breathtaking, feline grace, she glided past the edge of the Sapphire Parasol, stepping directly onto the scorching basalt. Before the radiant heat could even singe her boots, her rapier whistled through the shimmering air.

She didn’t engage in brute force slashes. With surgical, assassin precision, her blade found the microscopic gaps between the glowing silicon plates on the first salamander’s neck. A concentrated, lethal charge of her elemental frost mana erupted from the Celestial Silver tip, plunging directly into the beast’s central circulatory node.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

CRACK!

The extreme, instantaneous temperature differential between her frost mana and the creature’s three-thousand-degree blood caused an explosive thermal shock. The salamander’s neck plates cracked violently, fracturing into a spiderweb of white lines. The creature let out a choked, gurgling roar as its internal heat was instantly snuffed out, its massive body turning into a brittle, motionless statue of dull grey slag.

Shnee didn’t pause. She executed a swift, elegant pivot, her rapier flashing twice more in the shimmering haze. Two precise thrusts pierced the throats of the remaining two reptiles, freezing their magma glands mid-surge. Within three seconds, all three giant salamanders stood frozen on the ridge, their glowing scales turning dark and crumbling into harmless piles of gravel under the weight of their own armor.

”Target liquidation complete,” Shnee reported calmly, flicking her rapier to clear a dusting of ash from the blade before gliding back under the cool canopy of the Sapphire Parasol.

”Szefie, to było czyste dzieło sztuki!” Kaede chirped from my shoulder. ”Lokalne jaszczurki nawet nie zdążyły pojąć, że ich własne ciepło rozsadziło im szyje od środka! Czysta obniżka kosztów!”

”Good work,” I nodded approvingly. ”Save the cores. Silas will find a dozen alchemists in Crossgard willing to pay a premium for high-density fire glands.”

We continued our steady march along the winding basalt path, passing through the ninety-second floor and descending deeper into the ninety-third. As we moved further into the volcanic sector, the magma basins expanded, merging into vast, glowing lakes of molten rock spanning hundreds of meters across.

At the center of the ninety-third floor, the cavern opened into a massive, natural amphitheater of dark obsidian. Floating in the middle of the largest magma lake was a colossal, sixty-meter-wide island of cooled slag.

And resting atop that island was the guardian of the sector—a Magma Drake.

The beast was over twenty-five meters long, its immense body draped in thick, spiked plates of dark basalt and pulsing crimson veins. A crown of jagged obsidian horns rose from its massive skull, and its tail ended in a heavy, spiked club of solid iron ore.

As our boots touched the edge of the obsidian amphitheater, the Magma Drake opened its reptilian eyes. Two pools of blinding, golden light locked onto us. It let out a low, guttural growl that shook the surrounding cavern walls, causing waves of molten rock to ripple across the glowing lake.

”Szefie! Ten kloc ma masę pod osiemdziesiąt ton!” Kaede reported, her voice buzzing with tactical excitement. ”Jego pancerz to naturalny kompozyt bazaltu i płynnego żelaza! Zwykłe pchnięcia rapierem nie przebiją się przez taką grubość! Co robimy?”

”We don’t try to pierce eighty tons of composite armor,” I said coldly, stepping out from beneath the Sapphire Parasol. ”We use its own structural mass against it.”

I flexed my fingers, letting a dense, ink-black coating of Gōtai flow over my hands and forearms. The light-absorbing armor of pure will sealed my skin, turning my hands into indestructible, matte-black weapons.

The Magma Drake rose to its full height, unleashing a deafening, volcanic roar. It opened its massive jaws, charging a blinding sphere of condensed plasma and liquid iron in its throat. The air around its mouth warped violently as the energy reached critical pressure.

”It’s preparing a breath attack,” Shnee warned, her body tensing for a dodge.

”Let it charge,” I replied calmly. ”The more energy it gathers in its throat, the higher the internal pressure.”

I didn’t draw a sword. I didn’t step back. I took a single, powerful step forward, breaking the distance of thirty meters in a fraction of a millisecond. My boots struck the basalt with a quiet thud, and before the Drake could unleash its molten breath, I appeared directly beneath its massive, horned chin.

My right arm shot upward in a clean, vertical uppercut.

My Gōtai-coated fist struck the underside of its jaw with the force of an industrial pile driver.

BOOM!

The shockwave of the impact shattered the creature’s lower jawbone, forcing its mouth violently shut mid-charge. The massive sphere of superheated plasma trapped in its throat was compressed instantly by the sudden, brutal closure.

Unable to escape through the sealed mouth, the immense thermal pressure turned inward. The Drake’s own breath attack detonated inside its throat and chest cavity with a muffled, subterranean rumble.

THUD-BOOM!

Crimson light burst from the seams between the creature’s neck plates. The internal explosion tore through its organs, destroying its respiratory system and fracturing its heavy basalt spine from the inside out.

The eighty-ton beast shuddered violently, its golden eyes going instantly dim. It collapsed onto the obsidian floor like a felled mountain, creating a massive splash in the surrounding magma lake.

I stood beside the motionless corpse, my Gōtai armor retracting smoothly beneath my skin, leaving my hands completely clean and unblemished. I extended a single tendril of Sapphire Slime, driving it through the cracked neck plates to extract the glowing, purple boss core from the creature’s chest.

”Szefie! To był czysty przycisk ’delete’!” Kaede cheered wildly, her spider legs tapping a victorious rhythm on my coat collar. ”Jedno pchnięcie w podbródek i stwór sam wysadził sobie klatkę piersiową! Zero zużycia prądu, zero uszkodzeń pancerza! Szafirowy suweren znowu wyczyścił poziom bez wysiłku!”

I caught the warm, pulsing core in my palm and tossed it casually into my dimensional pouch.

”The ninety-third floor is clear,” I said, turning back toward the stairs leading downward. ”Let’s keep moving. The halfway point of the tenth zone is just ahead, and I have no intention of letting this dungeon waste our time.”

Shnee glided to my side, her eyes gleaming with deep, unshakeable admiration. ”Lead the way, Sovereign.”
